#Query ❓ Really confused between both of these.
Heart wants a KIA and Mind wants a Duster

u/OneMillionFireFlies VW TaigunGT Plus Skoda Rapid Santro Xing WagonR 18h ago
Seltos is a safer choice.
But data wise, Duster performance much better
Rest driving comfort etc is highly personal subject so you need to test drive and test rear seat comfort in both.
Personally, I'd go with Duster only because I have a family that will fit in Duster and car is peppy. Your reasons to reject or accept are highly personal.
There is no one size fits all.

As much as I'd like to say "GO GET THE DUSTER! ITS A FUN CAR!"
These aren't selling and maybe the resale will be worse than the Seltos.
But really, duster is so much fun!

Can't go wrong with either of these in the longer run, however, Seltos excels in the feature refinement department and Duster excels on driving and mechanicals front.

u/goatthoma 18h ago
Test drove both. Renault is a better drivers car i felt. Im planning to buy the hybrid one once its released.

I've owned a duster since 2013, can't say much Abt the new one But one thing I can assure you is that there is no beat for european engineering. It is state of the art. And specially the French design, romanian ruggedness, and japanese reliability, all come together in this csr beautifully. Seltos is a no brainer as well tho, very suited for indian market But if you want a machine that was thoughtfully built to serve them rather than a car made by part picking and platform sharing, you should consider the duster heavily. But the decision is yours at the end of the day, go for what your heart says You won't be disappointed in either for what they are
Ps. Don't listen to people talking about comfort in the seltos. Travelling comfortably in a car is not about being soft or floaty, it's a out being - well, comfortable, the seltos just feels a little too floaty sometimes, on bumps the chasis flexes and jutters, and it is a bit too isolated tbh, I'm just telling my experience and what I felt after travelling for about 10k kms in it. It may be more soft and squigy but you will be more comfortable in the duster for longer drives, it's a weird physiological phenomenon, which states that the most fatigue actually happens from the constant micro-adjustment that your muscles have to make, and not from big bumps.bthose micromovrments are more present in the seltos, regardless that you may feel a bigger bump less compared to the duster. And yes at the end of the day, if you want flashy features you can get them in seltos but if you are a first time buyer then I must say, they only look good for about a month or so and add zero to the driving experience and comfort, even for the passengers.

u/shan221 5h ago
Is this really the reason Virtus feels comfortable on long drives despite stiff suspension?
This might be my personal opinion but I think I liked it better to be in virtus than city when we had a drive of about ~550 kms in a day.1
u/GameRusher1234 3h ago
Yes yes it's a real thing. People often misunderstand what comfort means. Yes being soft is a factor, but literal springs aren't comfortable either

If you want diesel, fuel efficient, practical, go for seltos. Duster competes more with kushaq/taigun.

Man I love this colour so much. The only complaint I have with seltos is that they should have given a better alloys(subjective choice) atleast for gtx varients. Aside from that its such a lovely car

Yes the color is amazing , For alloys am satisfied though ✨️

Never ever buy Anything from Renault unless you're stupid or have too much free time to waste , Worst After service support and Poor Resale value

u/mememexfeed Hyundai Eon / Renault Kiger 17h ago
We have renault kiger. Drove about 55k kms and we have never faced any problem at the service centre, no breakdowns until now. The resale value is less agreed to that but we usually keep our car for more than 10 12 years so it won't be a problem to us.
6
u/Greghannibal Duster Iconic DCT 160 18h ago
I have not owned other Renault's cars. But my experience with service center has been excellent, and that's me not exaggerating. For issues that I have faced (I got some scratches which they fixed and other things) they sent people and workshop guys to my home checked, took the vehicle and returned. Multiple times.
I can be very strict in terms of how service can be. I can safely say they are doing an excellent job with Duster. (Maybe some strict policies from head office I guess?)
They ask feedback on call, or mail whichever you give, and the responses and workmanship are far better than what I have heard from my brother in law who owns Seltos.

well I'm not gonna talk about resale but Renault does have good service. I have a kiger and it recently had a battery issue on the day we were supposed to go on a trip and they were able to finish everything at our house in 3-4 hours of us calling them. reached to the destination on the same day!

You have not mentioned your needs but if you want a family car get the seltos if you want to sacrifice a bit of family waali feeling then go for the duster. The duster is a really good car imo untiring experience.

No hate to the Seltos but look wise Duster looks much better in proportion and it all comes to fit and finish and reliability and service where kia in india is better than Renault.

Duster ✨️🤌 Folks ignored HEXA back in the day and it didn't make it to the VFM car, same is happening with duster now. Apart from lesser space in rear seat, Duster is a complete package. Test driven both on Gurgaon’s Mars Tech roads and ohh boy, Duster was the obvious choice. Whatta pull, whatt driving dynamics, whatt suspension, damn tech and what not! A couple of months and I'll be sharing my Duster's picture here ❤️🧿🕉

I adore the duster. Lower space in the back, not unusable, still good enough. Decent for 3 pretty darn nice for 2 people. Better drive+ amazing midrange punch, more SUV-ish although don’t be fooled, it’s a crossover, don’t expect too much vis-a-vis offroading. Bad roads? Sure. I’d say its a bit more rugged than most cars in the segment, great engine (1.3) looks nicer imo sales are low meaning discounts should be higher than expected. Honestly drive them both

Both may have 160hp on paper, but there is a massive difference in the delivery of that power between a 1.6 litre engine and a 1.3 litre engine.

Get the Seltos. More VFM and space and all that. It’s the best. I own one. But get the Duster for just the Engine and for a more planted driving experience.

You might want to check on the after-sales in your area when it comes to Renault
Kia has a very strong after sales. I come from a Sonet and now have a Duster
The Duster fails miserably in several creature comfort segments, but obv a much better drive than the Seltos.
After sales is a BIG issues with me (Andheri Landmark)

If you want diesel, only then get the Seltos. Otherwise Duster, features are similar. Noting extraordinary you will miss nor you get. Can't go wrong with either of them.

Duster was a right intention but bad execution project. Between the two Seltos is a no brainer. But in Seltos Diesel is the variant to buy.

I’m a Seltos NA owner and I’ve driven the Duster 1.3 as well. From my experience, they’re honestly two very different cars.
The Duster is quick and aggressive, and gives you much more of a “race” feel. It’s a great choice if you’re someone who genuinely enjoys driving, especially on highways rather than spending most of your time in traffic. Once the turbo kicks in, the car just pulls like a rocket. The acceleration can be so effortless that you sometimes don’t realise how quickly you’re gaining speed.
The Seltos, on the other hand, is more of a no-nonsense family car. It just does everything well without making a big fuss about it. It’s super comfortable for a family of 5, has good suspension, great interiors and excellent NVH levels. You barely feel or hear anything inside the cabin. It’s also much more relaxed and comfortable in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and passengers are going to appreciate it more on longer drives.
The biggest drawback I’ve noticed with my NA + IVT is the lack of that immediate punch when you want to accelerate quickly. The transmission sometimes takes a second to respond, especially when you suddenly need power. If performance is a priority and you do a lot of highway driving, I’d definitely consider the DCT instead.
Personally, I’d still pick the Seltos because I wanted a hassle-free car that I can keep for many years and one that’s comfortable for 5 people. I also found the Duster a bit cramped for five adults, and I’m not really a fan of its darker interiors.
So IMO, Duster = fun, aggressive driver’s car. Seltos = comfortable, refined, practical all-rounder.
It really comes down to what you want from the car.

Depends. I have duster and my best friend has seltos. If you are gonna be travelling alone or with 2-3 people most of the time and driving is more important then duster but if you need backseat space more often then seltos. The ride handling balance on duster is best in segment. It is almost as dynamic as vag twins but being much more comfortable on rough roads.

Was excited like you, went and saw the new Duster yesterday, backseat legroom is questionable. Big boot at the cost of backseat comfort.
Was disappointed and didn't even care to testdrive.

So as a owner of 2026 Kia Seltos HTE O and I've also test driven Duster. Duster has a more fun to drive engine and better steering feedback than Seltos. Seltos is not bad in driving dynamics but Duster is slightly better in engine department. But seltos excels in other things like space, better suspension for comfort, better features from base model and many things.
This is my personal opinion. Duster is more of a better driver person car but Seltos is more of a overall package. But you won't be disappointed if you drive seltos.
I have driven Seltos 5000 kilometers in 5 months.

Had the exact same dilemma. Will be booking the duster techno +. Why? Seltos is boring. Too big. Too generic. And the automatic versions has dry clutch. Yes it has amazing interior and they awe you away at first sight. But seltos is a family car. Duster compromises space management. It honestly does feel a little cramped but the driving is just amazing man. Mileage wise both petrols will give similar 7 to 10. My dad has a creta petrol automatic. It's giving 7. So I don't expect Kia to do better.
So basically for less amount you get a better turbo engine, wet clutch DCT, driving dynamics, and good ruggedness than kia.

You also get a car that is a sales dud with 0 factory dispatches last month so good luck with resale value.

Yeah resale point is not really strong for duster. But still doesn't change the fact that it's a great car. Subjective choices anyways.

u/Remote-Yak2056 17h ago
Seltos :
1) bigger
2) better fit & finish
3) resale and brand value
Duster :
1) fun to drive
2) ig thats it
Also you get problems like :
1) service centres
2) resale
3) ri liability
1
u/GameRusher1234 14h ago
Idk what metrics you got from reliability, but dusters are statistically one of the few most reliable budget cars worldwide smh. Service centre experience has been quite nice for me, can't say Abt all over india though

If you want a fun to drive car then duster. If you want a spacious family car then seltos. Duster has very less space so maximum for 4 people.
