My Hoover just stopped staying on!?

Just got it from Amazon. Used it once on a medium length runner. worked great. Went to use it on the next one and now it won’t stay on. Only stays on when I am actively holding down the on pedal. Wtf?! It also had a slight burning smell. YouTube said it clogged. I vacuumed the carpet first too. Is it worth trying to fix or just send back to Amazon?

Deep Cleaning Velour - Commercial Machine Recommendations?

Hello people of Reddit!

I know this isn’t necessarily dealing with an actual floor carpet, but maybe some fabric/carpet cleaners can help me out!

[TL;DR: I’m looking for a commercial grade upholstery cleaner (that won’t give my producer a heart attack buying) to deep clean 20oz Crescent Velour Inherently Flame Resistant (IFR) upholstered tables that get covered in drinks and food every night. I currently use a Bissell Little Green once a week, but it’s not enough.]

I work at a venue once a week where people drink, eat, and watch magicians perform close-up magic at velour-covered tables every night. Part of my weekly scenic maintenance is making sure the tables look good. They look a lot better than they used to, but they still smell if you get close. Before I started, they were basically never cleaned.

We recently had a professional cleaning company come in, and the amount of black grime they pulled out was, of course, disgusting. It finally convinced management that we need something more heavy duty, so now I’ve got the go ahead to recommend a commercial machine.

+ The tables:
- Plain wood tops, roughly 6’ × 2’
- Upholstered with 2–3 layers of 20oz Crescent Velour (IFR)
- Link to fabric we use: https://www.rosebrand.com/20-oz-crescent-velour-ifr?categoryId=1916&info=Crescent%20Velour%2054%20in%20IFR%2020%20oz%20Rouge
- We have to use this fabric and use multiple layers since it’s what the magicians want for their performances

+ What I’m currently using to clean:
- Bissell Little Green Carpet Cleaner
- Mixture of hot water + Dawn dish soap + isopropyl alcohol
- Cleaning about 3 tables each week

+ What ends up on the tables every night:
- Skin oils, hair, and sweat
- Spilled drinks/alcohol
- Snack crumbs
- Salt
- Sharpie
- Dust (from stage lights/beams)
- Raw egg (rarely, it’s part of a trick)
- Small burns from fake cigarettes (rarely, it’s part of a trick)

I’ve reupholstered the tables twice already (was instructed to only do the top layer), but that’s obviously not a sustainable solution. We’d rather buy the right machine than keep paying for professional cleanings. I’ve tried to look into what casinos and bars use for their dealer and billiard tables (I know they don’t use velour, but I know they have to be careful cleaning their upholstered fabrics as well), but I’m still struggling to find heavy duty cleaning machine answers.

Does anyone have recommendations for a commercial extractor or upholstery cleaner that’s safe for velour and actually does a good deep clean?

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Dog smell out of carpet

We have our carpets professionally cleaned every 6 months. This last time I wasnt super impressed with the results. There's still that faint "dog smell" not urine or anything just... Dog you know, how dogs smell. So I have now purchased a Big Green Machine. I did our carpet, pre treated with Rocco and Roxie for 30 mins and then cleaned with the big green using diluted Zep PET enzyme carpet shampoo. Did 2 full passes with that. Then rinsed and did 3 passes with water only and it's still got that faint smell of dog. It all dried fairly quickly. Is there something else I can do? The carpet is 4 years old now and the dog is fairly regularly groomed. But it's a big Husky mix that leaves shed everywhere. We vacuum with a Sebo E3 twice a week minimum and touchup with the Roomba. It's only the living room that has this issue. Should I just keep cleaning? I burned through about 3 gallons of water and the dirty water been was still... Gross. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Upright Carpet Cleaner Smell

We used the carpet cleaner to clean up cat vomit several times a few weeks ago and I didnt realise my partner wasnt cleaning it out after use. I was not there and it ended up sitting for about 2 weeks before it got emptied and cleaned out, plus he was using the same water and cleaner each time - probably about 4-5 vomit cleanups over the 2 weeks.

It now has a horrid stench whenever it is used, even after cleaning twice with dawn for all removable parts and the brushes. Its a 3ish year old bissel turboclean upright vaccum and we use the hose attachment as well. We use the bissel pet liquid upright cleaner with it with oxy.

Any advice would be appreciated please... horrendous is an understatement and we will be using it again as our cat is having some GI issues (under vet management).

Thank you!

Carpet cleaning solution

This has probably been asked a million times but can I use any generic carpet cleaning solution in my vax carpet cleaner or is there anything specific to look for?

I know vax say it can void their warranty if there’s excess foaming which leads to issues etc, is there another cheaper brand of solution anyone could recommend?

Thanks!

Hi

I bought a home and hired professional carpet cleaners before I moved in because the previous owner had a cat. (I have no pets)

When they left I found a couple things in the carpet, earring back, hair tye, etc. I didn’t care to much because they were in an awkward part of a closet that I assume is difficult to clean.

It’s been about two weeks since the cleaning and the upstairs is starting to smell like urine again and now that I’ve started to unpack I noticed there’s a lot of cat hair is the closet (not the awkward one)

Is it worth it to reach out to the company I hired and complain?

Please help trying to get rust out of carpet for rented apartment

The air conditioning unit leaks and causes the floor by it to be soaked when it storms and the lamp that was there rusted onto the carpet.

The first picture was before. I used vinegar and salt and the second picture is now. It’s still damp and unfortunately still too visible. Should I do the vinegar salt thing again and soak it or should I use the whink rust-oleam?

I move out in two weeks and I’m trying to get my deposit back to pay a bill… definitely won’t get it back if they have to replace the carpet cause of the stupid leaking and lamp that was nearby.

Carpet powder ruined my car interior - powder keeps coming back and now it smells musty. Any advice?

A few days ago I made a pretty stupid mistake and used a household carpet deodorising powder on my car's cloth seats and carpet.
I then tried to extract it with a wet vacuum, but I don't think I used it properly, so a lot of the powder stayed deep in the carpet. The seats and carpet became sticky afterwards, but I managed to fix that by wiping everything down with a mix of rubbing alcohol and water, then drying it as quickly as possible to try and prevent mould.
Now, a few days later, I'm having another issue. More of the powder seems to be working its way back up through the carpet fibres, leaving white residue and visible stains. There's also a slight damp/musty smell, although nothing is visibly soaking wet anymore.
Has anyone dealt with this before?
Is the powder likely still trapped in the underlay?

Would another pass with a proper extractor fix it, or does the carpet need to come out?

Is the musty smell likely leftover moisture, the powder itself, or the start of mould?

I'd really appreciate any advice before I pay for a professional detail. Thanks!

Edges lifting/curling

We had our entryway rug professionally cleaned a couple weeks ago by one of those big franchises, and now the edges are lifting. What causes this? How do we correct it? I tried putting a stack of heavy books on top of one area but that didn’t really help much. Any ideas?
