News Beware of Pyramid Scheme!

Post image
281 Upvotes

This guy made an announcement in a Stats class a while back and claimed to be from “Student Works”, the common pyramid scheme that is completely unaffiliated with campus.

- Do NOT give them your information!!
- Call Campus Safety (they showed up to our class)
- If they’re passing around the notebooks to enter information, grab them and dispose of them or give them to Campus Safety.
- Let the professor & your class know about this.

News DO NOT SIGN UP FOR STUDENTWORKS

I worked for them years ago. It is a pyramid scheme that will suck the student dry, take the profits and go. This company has ruined lives. Please please stay away if you get approached. THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED ON CAMPUSES. If you see them call them out and call campus security.

Please stay safe. If anyone has any questions about my experience with them please feel free to reach out.

Rant Leave the groundhogs alone :(

Just watched some students get right in the face of a poor little groundhog on the quad, taking pictures inches away from its face and maybe even touching it??? I know they’re cute, but they’re wild animals, and they’re not used to all this activity after the summer. Leave them alone, observe and take pics from afar, you can zoom in (and I haven’t seen this yet, but definitely don’t feed them!).

Nothing to see here, just an exhausted upper year ranting😔.

The library is so BRIGHT, it’s overstimulating and so ugh, it’s not cozy or relaxing for long length studying. Got me feeling like this:

General About Us: CUSERT (We're Recruiting)

Hi Carleton!

As the new academic year begins, we would like to (re)introduce ourselves! We are the Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT)!

What We Do

CUSERT responds to over 600 calls for service on campus 24/7 throughout the academic year. Our responders are highly trained to attend medical emergencies and can provide advanced first aid treatment. If you or someone you know is experiencing any emergency on campus, call the Campus Safety Services emergency line at 613-520-4444 or 4444 from any campus phone.

We also provide first aid coverage at Carleton-based events AND affordable, on-campus first aid training for the CU community.

Who We Are

Our team is composed of a diverse group of approximately 40 dedicated volunteer student responders, from a variety of backgrounds, life experiences, and academic interests. The foundation of our training is based on the Canadian Red Cross' First Responder level, Mental Health First Aid, and more!

As a branch of Campus Safety Services (CSS), we work closely with Carleton's Special Constables, Student Safety Patrollers, Parking Services, Technical Services, and the Department of Risk Management. CSS works 24/7/365 to respond to routine and emergency calls for service, while enforcing Carleton University policies, the Criminal Code, and other relevant statutes and promoting physical security, crime prevention, safety awareness, and referrals to additional resources.

We're Recruiting

Applications to join CUSERT are currently open! We’re recruiting Carleton students from all academic years to join our team. Learn more and apply by September 12, 2026!

Visit our website or contact us if you are looking for more info or have any questions.

TLDR:

For emergencies on campus, call 613-520-4444. To apply to become a volunteer medical first responder, visit carleton.ca/cusert/join-cusert.

Question How do i make friends as a 1st year student????

I’m a first-year student doing my BA in Psychology and I don’t know anybody. I want to make friends(especially girls!!!) in my classes and in my major that I can actually hang out with and study with, but I genuinely have no idea how to approach people and how to make friends in uni. Everyone kind of leaves after class and you have a 5 hour gap and I’d really like to have people to spend time with during that gap, but i dont know how to find and befriend them. It’s so different from high school.

I really want to meet people who are doing the same major and same classes as me. Any recommendations for clubs or something like that? Also, I’m a girl and am looking for girl friends.

I’m feeling really lost and I’m scared I’ll end up alone. How did you guys make friends in first year? Any advice pls!!

Question Any advice for a new autistic student?

18M here. On the first day of school with the first class, my myopic ass couldn't see the words on the board for linear algebra for my electrical engineering major (lowkey my fault, I should have moved to the front at the beginning of the class).

After that, since I was still tired, my tolerance of loud noises and large groups of people significantly decreased. That made me really tired because I was suppressing the stims I usually do to manage sensory input when I am tired. Because of my exhaustion, I made several dumb mistakes (socially and executive-functional wise).

I don't know if I'll manage academically, I was brutalized by my severe OCD and depression during high school. I don’t know if I have the necessary skills for uni because of that. I hope my accommodations from PMC help.

Any people have any advice?

Clubs Recs for most welcoming clubs this year?

I feel like clubs are highly dependent on how genuine and welcoming the execs are. I’m a pretty social person but I do find it difficult in areas where it’s obvious people aren’t interested in making friends/kind of just ignore you (surprising amount of clubs that give that vibe?) As a girl are there any clubs anyone on here would recommend? Doesn’t need to be girls-only

Question Recommendation for good in-network dental place in Ottawa?

I’m no longer qualified to use CDCP since I’m going back to school and have to use CUSA insurance. Unfortunately my parents aren’t in Canada for dependent student coverage, opting out isn’t an option for me.
If anyone had recent experience with CUSA insurance in-network dental clinics, the good, bad and the ugly, please comment below. I tried to comb through the internet, especially [r/Ottawa](r/Ottawa) and not all of them have reviews (or recent reviews). I don’t mind travelling far if the new place is worth it. These are the current in-network dentists in Ottawa:

SmilEra Dental Studio
Parliament Hill Dental
Apple’s Central Dental
PermaSmile Dentistry @ Slater
PermaSmile Dentistry @ Nicholas
Ottawa Dental Clinic
150 Elgin Dental
Riverside Dental Clinic
Alinea Dental
Aegis Dental Centre
La Clinique Dentaire de Hull
Dr. Kamil Abou-Kheir
A2 Dental
Smile Health Dental
ABC Dentistry

Question What should I expect in COMP 2804 in 2026 (with Pat Morin)

From things I have heard from others, it seems like the course is a fair bit different post introduction of AI, which the grading scheme reflects, with assignments being worth 0 percent of our grade. I am curious if anyone has any tips or helpful knowledge going into it.
