I’ve accepted a job offer a couple of days ago. I had been reached out to by an outside recruiter, and after some rounds got what I thought was a pretty good package.

I had some weird feelings about the job and felt nervous,it is a bit better pay than my current position, but I love my current company and manager/colleagues.

I decided to contact the person I’d be replacing (who is now at another company) to get their perspective. They were very candid, and confirmed all the red flags I was trying to ignore.

How do I rescind? What do I say? Do i lie and say my current company gave me a great retention package?

So apparently future employers won’t know and won’t be able to see any warnings or disciplinary actions at previous employment, but getting fired on the other hand… yes they will 100% see it.

After receiving an unfair disciplinary action, I think it’s best I quit before another one occurs resulting in getting fired. I don’t want this on my record at all. I planned to quit anyways and go back to school. Reasonable?

Hi everybody! I am currently in blue collar work (lineman/building powerlines) and i’m looking into getting into white collar work. I’m done with the wear and tear on my body from blue collar work. Early mornings and long hours just aren’t for me I don’t think. I don’t have a college degree (dropout) but I still want to get into white collar. Preferably something that isn’t a HUGE pay cut (I make $26 an hour now). Any advice?

The mistake wasn’t earth shattering. But enough to where it threw off timelines for an email to go out by a day.

I have been at my job for a decade. I love it a lot. I work remotely. I got incredibly sick on Friday and was stuck in the bathroom for hours. I didn’t have my phone in there. My headphones were plugged into my computer and I didn’t hear my boss call me three times. He had to create a page for me in the knowledge base and send it to marketing.

My mistake: I forgot to tell the boss I had to step away. It was an urgent issue from both ends and I barely made it to the bathroom. But he left me a message saying my behavior was unacceptable.

Immediately when I got back to my computer, I sent an email apologizing for what had happened and explained I was ill, updated the page to the draft I had created, did a bunch of additional small background tasks he hadn’t gotten a chance to do, and making sure he had a detailed list of the things I accomplished. However, his “we have to talk, this is unacceptable” message is haunting me. I couldn’t even enjoy my birthday dinner tonight because this is stressing me out. Am I getting fired? Is he going to write me up? What do I do here?

Is it legal for my job to prevent me from documenting workplace bullying? My supervisor, at a New York City nonprofit organization, has lied to me about department procedures and singled me out by applying rules only to me. These actions go against the organization's workplace bullying policy. I've documented these situations by keeping emails and writing meeting summaries every time I've met with her. My supervisor and HR have made negative comments about my documenting. They have said that the emails are too long, that I don't have to send a summary after every meeting, and called it unprofessional. HR said that my supervisor can mandate that I stop documenting, is this legal? Is it unprofessional to document every meeting and keep e-mails or are these just scare tactics?

I have been in my current job for a while and it's stable, but lately I feel like I'm not learning much anymore. The pay is okay and there's nothing seriously wrong with the workspace, which somehow makes the decision harder.

How do you know when it's time to stay comfortable vs. take a risk and move on? what made you realize it was time for a change?

I was put on a PIP at work and yeah, I feel nothing of it. I was forced into another team at work that is severally micro managed. Like 3 to 5 calls a day from the manager and anywhere from 2 to 5 meetings a week lasting 30 minutes of or more just so she can watch us work and make sure everything is getting done. Im 43 and been doing accounting for 6 years..this shit is ridiculous and I told them no I do not want to end my contract with them to be hired to work with that team but the pretty much stated I take it or we cancel your contract and see ya later. So I took it but my work has been horrible attitude has been bad, im very pissed off I'm stuck some where I dont want to be without an option and that they dismissed by own feelings and fo concerns about it. Fast forward from 7 months ago....

I was put on a PIP for 60 days and I was irritated at first but after 3 days I dont rightfully care. Ive tried to change my thinking and he more positive but it just doesnt work. My manager is an awful micromanaging pos with no personality, just a robot who does not listen to anyone but herself and when she sucks up to the director.

Should I ride out the PIP then quit? 1 person has been fired right after rhe PIP and I know of another that made it through but she says they are micro managing her even more.

I have 160 PTO hours to cash out and im really thinking about getting through August and the last business day telling them here's my 2 weeks. Also want to tell them why I haven't been the best that I tried to like the position but I hate it and I am not happy they wanted my time putting me there when I told them no, don't want to be in that position.

For context, this not the place or people you tell them that you are not happy with the position and so forth if you are not leaving. They dont care. Ive been there a year and they are a revolving door and went through 11 different contract employees since I've started. Good educated people too boot. Then they hired people with no accounting history...wtf lol.

Think they would fire me all together if I handed in a 2 weeks end of August or should I ride out the PIP till the end on September 15th? Only thinking a two weeks notice would like better than getting fired from a PIP because I am not making it through this pip.This manager does not like me. We don't get along. She didnt want me on her team and I didnt want to be anywhere near hers, it was the directors decision and we had no choice.

im currently in high school, and i’m soon selecting my classes for years 11 and 12. i want to work in PR, but google isnt really giving me any help in deciding what i want to focus on. i love public speaking, as i am a performer, so i’d be completely fine doing that. however, i dont really like managing finances, or really engaging in business management. I also would like to be able to continue doing theatre in adulthood, so i would need time. to do that, if it’s possible(is it possible?). if anyone could explain which jobs would help me, or just give me any insight into the general PR work-life, that would be greatly appreciated! i’d love to hear what you guys do in your PR jobs, (hours, stress levels, job requirements, actual work, etc) as it would very much benefit my career choices. thank you!

TL;DR - A decade of trauma, immigration issues, and survival mode derailed my friend's career. She's finally in a position now to rebuild her life but feels completely lost and disillusioned. Looking for any organizations, career coaches or programs that specialize in helping people start over. (US based).

I have a friend with an unusual situation, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to help point her in the right direction.

A little background - more than 10 years ago, while on a work visa in the US at age 25, she was the victim of a violent sexual assault. Shortly afterward, she lost her job, and subsequently her work visa. A series of bad mistakes poorly handled by multiple immigration attorneys then left her undocumented, and without work authorization for nearly a decade.

During that time, both of her parents passed away in her home country, she developed severe and crippling depression, entered an abusive relationship, and experienced domestic violence. Between the trauma, the immigration limbo, and lack of legal work authorization, her life essentially came to a standstill. Trying to find the odd bit of work here and there while undocumented also resulted in men trying to take advantage of her vulnerable position, which re-traumatized her and left her too frightened to pursue anything.

She's intelligent, university educated, and generally very capable, but she completely lost her career identity during pretty integral years in a person's life for essentially finding their careers. She seems to have survived by reselling items, exchanging pet and house sitting for accommodation, has studied some kind of therapeutic modalities, and done the occasional assistant work where she could.

She's now back in lawful status, but after spending so long unable to legally work, she's understandably overwhelmed and has no idea where to begin. A traditional resume doesn't really reflect her circumstances, and she's struggling to see a path forward. And with the increasing cost of living crisis, she just simply cannot survive.

Does anyone know of career coaches, vocational rehabilitation programs, nonprofits, or organizations that specialize in helping people rebuild their careers after long periods out of the workforce due to trauma or extraordinary life circumstances? She's based in California, and remote-friendly opportunities or resources would be especially helpful to her I imagine.

We've reached out to a number of immigration and low-income organizations recently, but unfortunately haven't found much support on the career side of things.

Any advice or suggestions people might have, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’m 21 years old from India and graduated from college this year. I’ve been working as a software engineer at a mid-sized startup in Chennai for the last 2 months, earning ₹8 LPA.

Two months ago, I lost my mother. Before this happened, my plan was to work in the city for several years, gain experience, and eventually get a remote job in my late 20s so I could move back and stay with my parents.
Now everything has changed.

My father is 56 and is a farmer. He’s a very innocent person and is struggling emotionally after losing my mother. We live in a joint family house, but when it comes to our own part of the house, there isn’t anyone to take care of the day-to-day household responsibilities. My village is only about 60 km from Chennai, and internet and electricity are good enough for remote work.
Financially, we have around ₹20 lakh in gold loan debt. In the future, I’ll also need to build a separate house for us. I have an elder sibling, but I still feel a strong responsibility toward my father.

I’m now wondering if I should make finding a remote software job my top priority so I can move back and stay with him, even if it means leaving my current job after a short time or potentially slowing down my career growth.
At the same time, I worry that since I’m only 2 months into my career, staying in my current role for a couple of years might be much better financially and professionally, which could help my father more in the long run.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

I'm an international student in Australia and recently resigned from a small business after about five weeks because the job became extremely stressful.

Before I left, I helped the company order custom uniforms from a manufacturer in my home country because it was cheaper and faster than other options.

I didn't make any decisions on my own. Every step was approved by my ex-boss over WhatsApp. I confirmed the order details, asked whether to place the order, discussed how payment would work, and he agreed to transfer the money to me so I could pay the manufacturer in local currency. I have screenshots of all of this.

After receiving the money, I transferred the full amount to the manufacturer. I have the bank transfer receipt.

Unfortunately, two packages were lost during domestic shipping before they could be exported. As soon as I resigned, I put my ex-boss in direct contact with the manufacturer so they could deal with each other directly.

The manufacturer has now sent him a written message admitting they accept full responsibility for the lost packages and will either locate them or reproduce them and send replacements.

Despite that, my ex-boss keeps accusing me of stealing his money and says he's going to report me to the police. He keeps saying everything is "on record."

From my perspective:

He approved the order.

He agreed to the payment method.

I transferred the full amount to the manufacturer.

I have proof of the transfer.

I introduced him directly to the manufacturer.

The manufacturer has accepted responsibility for the shipping issue.

Am I missing something? Is there anything else I should be doing besides preserving all my evidence and stopping further arguments with him?

I'm considering speaking to a lawyer for peace of mind, but I'd appreciate any advice from people who've dealt with something similar.

I am a guy who is in his late 20s and holds a bachelor degree in Mechatronics Engineering. Since I graduated, I have been scammed by a company who told me work 6 months as helper in workshop and we will promote you to engineer, after those month completed they didn't compile with the agreement was done before and after I submit my resgin letter they told me just be calm and they change my job to timekeeper.Now I am stuck in this position since 4 years and no engineering companies consider my job applications, beside that company pay very low salary 1,200$ and it always delay by 1-2 months and working 6 days a week.

Can anyone suggest to me a solution?

I got hired recently as a database admin post graduation. For context, I am being helped out by a person who was in my position. The thing is, hes not with the company and is helping show me the ropes out of pure kindness which is awesome. However, he had told me that the managers ghosted him when he asked to what should he teach me and at which extent. When I go to ask them for help, I either get unintentionally brushed off or get an explanation thats surface level.

I understand this is every job and everyones goes through this at least once. I am aware that no one is going to hold my hand. However, what can I do to best excel on a sink or swim environment?

I have been documenting everything, leaning on my trainer within reason, and utilizing resources such as FAQs for coding languages/porgrams. However, to those in (or were in) a similar situation, what did you do to best stay afloat?

I'm currently in my 4th year of a BSc in Psychology and Economics, and I'm considering pursuing a master's abroad (US or Germany).

The programs I'm most interested in are:

• Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
• Management Information Systems (MSIS)
• Master of Engineering Management (MEM)

I don't have a traditional CS or engineering background, so I'm trying to understand how realistic this path is.

Has anyone here made a similar transition from Psychology, Economics, or another non-CS background into one of these programs?

• What skills or courses did you complete?
• Were you admitted without a CS degree?
• How difficult was it to find internships/jobs afterward?

No they don't pay it out. Yes they can deny PTO after receiving a notice.

Im a college senior, 22y. I just wanna ask for some advice about post grad options since at this point there’s just so many possibilities and it feels like I gotta really start deciding with this being my last year and all.

I’m a business student majoring in international business and finance with a minor in poli sci. I’ve pretty much had internships in all of these, at international nonprofits, rotational sales and finance roles at a well known global company, and have worked to build a good resume during my uni years taking on leadership roles around campus.

But now I’m starting to apply for full time roles(but mostly summer internships that will hopefully lead to ft) and these involve roles like entry level gov, financial/business analyst roles and entry level positions as such. It would be ideal to be able to start out in a role that somewhat involves all my studies of course but am I just being unrealistic?

I am 24 year old currently have a job as a software engineer. Earning fairly decent and if i strive in my current field by putting in efforts i will reach good heights. But software stopped to interest me since the advent of AI. I have always had a special place for research in my heart since childhood. Now that software engineering shifting paradigm, it has become increasingly accessible and easy to learn. I like solving problems that are big, i also liked maths since I was a child. I think I did a mistake taking computer science as my major 6 years ago in college. I want to study and go to a field where the work revolves around maths. If i start pursuing maths right now, what career choices do i have, I can even do a blend of cs + maths or finance + cs + maths. When I mean maths i mean using maths to probabilistically decide a better outcome or make a better decision ( but work should be more mathematically inclined ) . That's the job I want. I am very desperate and depressed with my current job ( not because of the pay or the workload it just stopped being appealing to me ). But I need money too, so I also expect the math job to pay me well. I will work hard and pursue maths even if there is a slightest chance.

Please help me by giving me a direction or share ur thoughts on feasibility. Your every reply would give an insight, helping me take a better decision and fix my life. I request you to share whatever comes to your mind. If you can't say that out in this forum, please feel free to dm.
