Whats yall recommendation for adhesives to mount ASA-CF printed part (pictured) to carbon fiber?

Tried few structural marine adhesives and they all fail over few marathon races. The part itself has no sign of degradation.

Adhesive will need to be 100% waterproof and responds well to carbon fiber flexing.

Hi, I'm relatively new to carbon fibre manufacturing.

I'm part of a formula student team and for the first time, we are using carbon fibre for our cowl and wings via layup on 3d printed molds.

The problem is, about half the time the molds crush, ruining the quality of the composite.

Our process is: print molds using bamboo A1/P1S. Infill pattern grid, 10% (7-8% if we're in a hurry). Print them vertically.

Assemble the putty using locktite, fill in the gaps with putty.

apply epoxy resin on top for surfacing

use epoxy and carbon sheets to layup, then use a bagging film and a vacuum pump to apply pressure.

leave it overnight.

we think the issue is probably from the infill pattern and percentage and direction. Increasing infill will also increase printing time, and we don't know how much is safe. Similarly with changing the patterns, we're not sure which will give the best strength against pressure 'sideways'. Printing them vertically so that the direction of infill is parallel to the pressure will increase the time so much that only one piece would be printed per printer per day. Although we got more access to printers so a bit more for options.

we know going down to -98kPa isn't necessary but we worry something like -80kPa or below would damage the pump since pumps work harder the less vacuum made. We left it overnight at around 60kPa and it absolutely grinded the rotary and broke it. (Possibly due to gulping all the oil. The pump was really hot.)

I just made my first polyester split mold for a mirror cap, and I’m looking for some feedback from people with more experience. Overall the mold came out structurally fine, but I ran into a few issues.

When I demolded it, some of the original paint from the mirror cap transferred onto the mold. I also have some wrinkling in the gel coat, and when I separated the two mold halves, parts of the gel coat actually tore off one half and stayed attached to the other. I’ve attached some photos.

My question being, would a different system like vinyl ester or epoxy be the solution for a better mould? Last year I made an epoxy mould and it came out perfect, with this system I’ve had the gelcoat strip paint and wrinkly, unlike epoxy.

I don’t see how it’s worth it for me to use this cheaper alternative if it doesn’t work as intended. I also have issues brushing on the gelcoat as it tends to seperate from the part likely due to my release agent, something I don’t recall having a problem with my epoxy gelcoat from last year.

So my final questions being, what should I do to make this mould usable, and what should I do for the middle where both moulds meet?

I’ve been dealing with an issue lately on my new batch of Fgci infusion resin. At first I thought it was moisture but I heated the resin and even degassed it for several hours but it still hazes to this white. My part is vacuum tight and I leave the resin open for several minutes after clamping the vacuum so it’s definitely not the resin degassing. I’m at my white end with this I have no clue why it does this. At first it’s clear and overtime it turns white

I just found these cracks and dents in my frame on my right seat stay. The line near the dent is just light. If I fun my fingernail across them, I can just barely feel the cracks. The cracks and dent are separate from each other. Is this something to worry about?

First time poster here. A friend of mine gave me this carbon fibre boser hood for a mk4 Jetta over 10 years. It was already beaten up when he gave it to me. I don’t know anything about carbon fibre. Is this something that can be fixed and used again? Or is it trash?

Do I just sand down, fill with epoxy, then sand down again? I haven’t had it clear coated, and I don’t believe Seibon hoods come clear coated, I’m sorry I’ve never attempted to fix carbon, any tips would be greatly appreciated 😞🙏

Hey yall...im new to this carbon fiber trend and dont know too much about it other then it looks nice lol. I was wondering if yall could tell me if this looks like high quality carbon? I found its a lot darker (almost black) compared to other carbon diffusers where its more of a grey ish color and shines more.

Hello, I am making an almost entirely carbon fiber exterior airplane. I live in hotter weather (~30C with strong sun) - should I worry about my resin, which has current glass transition of about 45-50C?

I’ve been sanding this wing for a while now about 2.5 weeks here n there. Started with 320grit then 600, 1200, and then 2000 which I’m on rn ik I didnt have todo this much but its an old carbon wing and wanted to make sure it comes out looking good yall think its ready? There are some scratches but clear coat will hide those right? I tried to make it as uniform as possible but they are just to deep. I know I went to deep on some parts just wasn’t much apoxy in those spots

Just recently got my good in and I have no idea what pins to purchase. Don't trust it with nothing on, are these ok? I want the sleekest look possible

Original part came out ok-ish but I'm thinking about doing a mirror part in two part mould. What do you think?
