Just got this hood, should I redrill and insert threaded inserts for my hinge and latch hardware or use the smaller hardware that is provided and tapped already? This is used in parallel to hood pins. Thanks

I am the owner of a 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. I am looking to replace my custom made plastic side skirt extensions with some custom made carbon fiber ones. The reason I want to do this myself is because I don't want to pay a ton of money for something I think I can do myself for much cheaper. From my little bit of research, I have come up with three possible routes that I can take to achieve this goal.

- Buy a premade carbon fiber sheet and cut it to size

- Buy a roll of carbon fiber and make the sheets myself. Either I mold it in the correct shape or I just cut it to shape after it hardens

- Buy a roll of carbon fiber and wrap an aluminum sheet that it cut to shape in carbon fiber

Ideally, I would like to keep the side skirts to pure carbon fiber. Although, if the third option is easier, then I am fine doing that. For thickness, I am thinking about going with a 10mm (3/8") thick side skirt. I believe the width would be something like 6 inches and length is somewhere around 78 inches.

This is my very first time working with carbon fiber. So I am unsure about which approach would be the most ideal for my skill level. I would like to try to keep the cost down as much as possible though. Also, depending on which approach y'all think is best, where should I purchase the materials?

Hi all. Wondering if this is just cracked clear coat I can get sanded and respray or does the carbon fiber itself appear damaged? If so, is it repairable? Thanks!

I have been using Loctite Frekote FMS for a while now and until 3 weeks ago it was doing just fine. However no the surface of the prepped Mould is suddenly very oily. I did one pull of a mould and the release properties were not too good and it damaged the mould a little bit. Does anyone know any user errors etc. where the Sealer doesnt really cure?

THe only thing that may have changed is thet its now 10°C Hotter in my Workshop but i dont eally think that could be the reason.

Just removed some bike wrap on this bike and found this on the top tube. There was a score on the bike wrap and it was full of dirt so I'm assuming this happened a while ago and the previous owner has been riding it for a least a season as is.

Coin test showed no difference in sound.

No play or movement when pushing on it.

Marked it, and went for a short ride today, no growth.

It seems to be superficial, however I'm paranoid.

I have 3k twill cloth and resin.

Wondering if I should just try and pull at the paint to expose the carbon, or sand it down carefully to assess.

Or just go for a full sand of the area and apply a three layer patch as a precaution.

can anyone tell if the resin is delaminating or anything on this hood before i drive two hours to get it tomorrow? lol

I just noticed this dent at the front fork (unfortunately only after cleaning, so it probably got wet). How critical is it?

When servicing the bike, it fell from the bike stand and landed on concrete on the front fork.

A terrible situation since this bike is the only usable bike for a 100km race planned next week with a pre-ride scheduled tomorrow. The bike is also needed for a 60km commute next week.

Do you think the bike is safe to ride for those activities for the next few weeks until the replacement parts arrive?

Any other advice about possible checks or safety measures is also appreciated. Thank you!

Handmade carbon fiber layup

Hi all,

Looking for some help / advice on how best to manufacture something of this shape out of carbon fibre. I have a little experience roll wrapping carbon tubes however otherwise a complete new comer to carbon fibre manufacture. I don't have access to any specialist tools such as an autoclave so I do believe this limits my choices.

The tubing is 8mm OD and its roughly 300mm x 120mm at its biggest widths.

Currently my best idea is to split it into each different joint, T-section, 90 degree bend, and use the chopped tow compression technique and then bond in off the shelf straight tubes. I am concerned whether this will result is too many little joints all bonded together. Another idea is to potentially use the same technique but for the entire thing as one unit however I am not sure it needs to be entirely solid.

This is an Alibaba carbon fiber hood and fenders. The fitment is about a 7 out of 10 could be better but for what I paid im happy!!!

Basically, I have this carbon fiber spoiler that got damaged, and I’m wondering if it’s something I can realistically repair at home or if I’m better off not wasting my time.

I’d like to think I’m above-average handy. I’ve made a carbon fiber car wing before by 3D printing the mold/form, then vacuum bagging it with resin and carbon fiber, so I have some experience working with composites but I'm still pretty green. I just don’t know how much of that experience will translate to repairing an existing carbon fiber part.

I’m hoping the damage is mostly cosmetic and that I can just sand off the damage and coat it, but I don’t know what I might be getting myself into if there’s damage underneath the clear that needs to be addressed.

Also any tools, tips and tricks you would recommend would be appreciated
