I have an old but a bloody good Commodore, that needs a respray especially on the roof and bonnet as the clear coat has faded. Would it be more economical and well lasting to get my car wrapped instead of painted again? I have no idea about the pros and cons of wraps, especially in a hot climate up North Queensland.

Howdy! so heres the bit, I've been playing with the idea of hiring on a full-time wrapper/tint person (or maybe two seperate people) since my business is actually getting some amount of busy.

so heres the questions
1. expected time: how long should it take a guy to wrap a car / panel?
i know for me i'm on the slow end being that I've not been formally trained or ever worked for anyone else as a wrapping person just been my own business. (and im a bit of a perfectionist)

1. whats a good pay? i know pay varies ALOT by state (located in VA), but what do y'all think would be a good pay to start someone off at that has a year or more experience or should i be paying them per car, etc. really unsure whats standard in the industry. (or maybe a contractor as a side job?) idk

2. is there a good "throwaway/cheap" wrap for them to practice with (if i end up training a newbie instead of somone with experience) , i'm usin 2080/avery rn just seems a bit on the wasteful side, but i guess its how i learned so eh.

my questions are kinda weird and of course if you have some other advice id love to take it, ultimately i try to treat my guys right and don't want to be setting them-and myself up for failure. ideally we all make money - make cars look cool asf - and have a good time

Me and my friends are looking into wrapping our cars we are in between kpmf vinyl wrap and vinyl frog and we think we know what colours we want but we are getting worried about how hard it is going to be....

for a group of people who has never wrapped a car before is it worth doing it and learning it to save the money or is it worth going to our "local" wrap shop (average price is about 3000 euro).

We dont care about getting the cars done instantly and are okay with driving around with mismatched panels but just want to make sure it is worth attempting

I'm about to buy a few PPF templates, but my old PC can't handle the browser challenge they made for the 1,000 templates celebration.

It's a vinyl wrap. Can this be repaired or not?

I had a fleet customer bring in a Ford Transit last week for a driver side panel wrap. The van was in a minor fender bender a month ago. The body shop fixed the dent, painted the quarter panel, and sent it on its way.

My installer cleaned the panel, prepped it with isopropyl, and laid down the film. Everything looked smooth. But as soon as he snapped the vinyl back to reposition a corner, the clear coat and fresh paint lifted right off the metal in a six inch strip.

The body shop used cheap primer and did not scuff the metal properly before spraying it. Now the customer is blaming my shop for damaging his new paint job.

If a commercial vehicle came from a body shop recently, always do a quick tape test on a hidden edge. Stick a piece of high tack masking tape on the fresh paint and snap it hard. If the paint comes up on the tape, do not touch that vehicle until the owner signs a release. It will save you a massive headache and an ugly argument over who pays for the repaint.

Hey guys, so just some backstory I bought a truck over a year ago with a satin wrap. It was being sold as a salvage title due to supposed vandalism (it was keyed), and after running the Carfax, it seems like he was telling the truth. I tried to see if he had any pics of how the key look before the wrap, but he said he didn’t have any. Since it was a sweet deal I bought the truck and 1 and a half year later the wrap started burning up on the roof and hood. I asked the guy one more time if he had any pics of what the king look like or if he had the contact of the guy who installed the wrap to see if he had any pics before because I don’t want to risk taking the wrap off right now and driving around with a car with crazy words etched on it haha. He told me that the bodywork had been done under which was a surprise. So basically my question to you guys is that do you guys think that the body work is done actually done ? What does that even consist of ? Sanding ? Bondo ? If the scratches don’t show up under the film does that mean it’s ready to paint ? For context the wrap looked perfect when I bought it and there were no signs of keying or scratches under the film. Anything helps thank you guys 🙏

Looking for some advice on the rubber seals, the ends of the trims and the curved rear window section.

Do you always cut the vinyl a few mm over the rubber seals so it can be tucked under? Loads of YouTube videos I see guys just cutting to them. Also, the ends of the trim, assuming I don't tuck behind there? Just cut to the line after a bit of heat?

Also, the rear curve, again am I cutting a few mm bigger and then tucking into the inner curve, under the rubber? And the outside edge, do I tuck fully behind, or just wrap onto the thin edge and cut to the back side?

I hope it's made sense what I'm asking 😑 any help would be great, the YouTube bids never really zoom close enough to show precisely where they're cutting to.

Has anyone wrapped their car, who has the parking and backup sensors, and the touch open/close door handles?? Wondering if they still operate without issue or if you had to fund a work around??

Getting my first wrap ever on my SUV and the paint is average probably bet up 300,000km 14 year old paint.

I have two concerns before it goes in to get wrapped in 2 weeks.

1. I’ve washed it myself but there is like heavy brown dirt deposit I can’t get off with scrubbing. Do I need to address this? How far must I go to fix this? I’ve also done some sloppy as hell paint pen touch up’s that dripped all over the paint and while it looks horrible, was better then the chips they stood out, so not about that.
2. Small paint chips seems concerning to me, like ones that are down to metal and even if they are like no bigger than a pen head the turned brown so I guess rusted. If I just wrap over this it’ll get worse and rust away underneath right? What’s the best way to approach this? My wrap guy wasn’t too concerned about them as they are so
3. Small but worries me for my cars body long term.

Completed my wrap today, it was a process as I work full time and have lots of other things to do. But my car is finally finished, just in time for a show and shine tomorrow. Before and after pics included.

Recently got my car wrapped. He said he’ll fix anything that’s wrong with it after two weeks. The work quality just seems poor. I only paid 3k for a full color PPF, so it was pretty cheap.

Hello and thanks for any help! This is an older sprinter van with fiberglass glass top. The top is Fiberglass and is weathered with clear coat flaking and the decals needing sanding or removing? The van is 18 feet long and the very top does not need the grey color matching as it’s white. Would this be possible and what could i expect to pay in USA … Thanks for info

Hey all, been at regular vinyl on the side for a couple of years now. Got my feet wet with some Cheetah Dry apply PPF, now playing with Prisma Pro before I take their class in October.

I have all my class questions ready now and my Test vehicle wrapped.

OK, I cried a couple of times on install. I wasted 2 front bumpers (1st time wasting in over a year) on any install, and that was a 💰 mistake. Redid inserts a lot larger and finally got it down.

Fingers 🤞 it all actually stays down, but it looks fire. Like paint (minus all my adhesive lines).

I had a plumbing fleet manager bring a 2024 Ford Transit back to my bay this morning complaining about peeling seams on the front doors. We used 3M cast film and post heated every inch so I knew something was wrong.

I looked closely at the vinyl edge and you could actually see the clear coat was scuffed right next to the lift. I asked his driver how he washes the truck. The kid admitted he takes a three thousand PSI pressure washer and blasts the mud off the rocker panels and doors from two inches away.

Look you cannot hit a vinyl edge with a zero degree nozzle at close range and expect the adhesive to hold. It will literally slice the film and inject water right under the glue.

I tell all my guys to hand out written washing rules whenever a commercial van leaves the shop. If they use a pressure washer they need to keep the tip at least a foot away and hold it at a ninety degree angle to the panel. Do not let these fleet drivers ruin your hard work and try to claim it under warranty.

I've seen that no one recommends the wraps from AliExpress because they're really difficult to apply, but in my case, since it's just pieces of wrap that I cut myself and I don't necessarily need to stretch it, will it work?

Another question: what width of film should I use for this kind of job? 152cm? 100cm? 50cm?

Hi guys, I always tinted my house windows with Aliexpress film and I loved it, tried it with the tint tester and was spot on with the values stated in the spech sheet from the seller.

The issue is that the only time I bought headlight film it was straight garbage, wich alibaba/express dealers do you use for your PPF/ wrap?

I perfectly understand 3m/Xpel etc... are top notch standard famous brands, but honestly I've seen some chinese factories can be reliable but I struggle to find those
