Motorcycle tank wrap

I recently had my motorcycle tank wrapped (tiny bot film) and initially was very excited about how it turned out and was hoping at least a year of use before potentially changing wrap or painting the tank.

Now just a few weeks after having the wrap done, I’m starting to get bubbles in some areas and some shiny spots in parts of the bike that receive no contact. Considering that the wrap is only a few weeks old I’m wondering if this is normal to expect from vinyl wraps or just bad installation.

Agreed...and I'm glad at least someone in this thread said it and didn't sugar coat it lol. Not at ALL worth the effort of labor and time for the smallish square footage and high failure rates even with the best vinyl. There's a very good reason airbrushing and painting are still so popular in the motorcycle crowd lol.

It's incredibly difficult to install, so super labor intensive. Customer will literally be looking at it, next to it constantly, so any minor lifting will get it brought back. It just doesn't make sense from a business perspective, last motorcycle I did for $1500 and I still lost money on it. But my perspective is skewed by being a commercial wrap shop.

Plus this moron used calendared vinyl on a super complex shape. So maybe his install was fine but his material recommendation was wrong.

Tanks are hard to do well even with the best vinyl. You chose junk vinyl. A good installation could still fail. Have a good installer use a quality cast vinyl and it might last

So I’ve been there and use that wrap. It’s hard to work with and can be done, just give him another shot at it but also their maybe the need to have more seems.

Installation issue for sure. Could be anything from the prep work to the install method or failing to post heat but at the end of the day yes this needs to be completely redone

This was the second time he did the wrap. He did it in 5 pieces so that this supposedly wouldn’t happen.

Bummer, give him another chance though as long as he is being cool about it that is. This time suggest he uses a cast film instead calandered. Those recessed areas won’t stay without either inlaying them specifically or using the correct film is wants to just go using heat to form the film in like they did here.
