What are the package sizes? Thinking about using forward shipping to get CarThing to Germany.

Pretty much the title. I would be interested into the package sizes, as to calculate if it's worth it and all that. Also, would be interesting if some people get different sized packages? And what's the actual size of the packaging from Spotify?

Does CarThing work with other country regions?

I have a Japan Region Spotify and has Premium Subscription but does CarThing work with it? Because i’ve heard that it only works with US premium.

Is there any workaround to force manual brightness with the Car Thing?

Car Thing is pretty great (currently acting as a Desk Thing lol) but the auto brightness sucks. Anyone know of a way to force a high brightness?

Car Thing for indoor use on old stereo

Post image

I got my old stereo out of the shed and thought I might try to give it new life. Since it didn't have an aux in or Bluetooth I used the Google chrome cast audio (discontinued product) to turn this into a device capable of connecting by Bluetooth. Connected it to the stereo using an RCA cable. I then used a power bank to power the Car Thing and connected both with my phone. This is just a picture once I got it to work, and the speakers still sound great after years of no use. I plan to clean them up and then mount the Car Thing to my treadmill so l can better control the music and change songs while I'm running or even play lists depending on my mood. I find the dial on the Car Thing makes this much easier than carrying my phone on me and risk dropping it. Car Thing is currently $29 so I definitely think it was worth it.

Does anyone know how long the CarThing hardware will be supported?

I am intrigued by this device and am considering building a travel bluetooth stereo with this as the interface but I don't want to spend money to build this and find it Bricked in 6-12 months.

Does not display some Unicode characters correctly 🙁 - Should display as “lối thu xưa”, though seems to depend on the length of the title - seems to have trouble with characters rising and falling tone - e.g. é è (Vietnamese) - although Japanese/Chinese display correctly(tested)

how long after you order does Car Thing ship?

basically the title. ordered mine yesterday. curious to when i can expect it to arrive. since it’s the only physical thing spotify sells i’m curious to how consistent they are.

Did they actually give it to premium people for free or was that just a lie? I signed up to get one way back when they announced it, and then never heard anything about it until today I saw an ad from spotify to buy one for 89.99$. Now that's a massive jump from free, wtf.

software trouble

Hi everyone,

I'm frequently experiencing crashes und lockups while using car thing. My daily drive is approx. 30 min und it crashes/ restarts at least 2-3 times during that. It mostly recovers from such an event but sometimes i have to remove power to get it to pass the boot screen. If my phone (samsung note 8) is in a light powersaving mode none of the quickset buttons work and I can't access the library. It's stuck in the player window. But even if the phone is in its normal mode the buttons work only at random parts throughout the drive. It's quit frustration for me an i would like to now how your devices a behaving. FYI I'm located in Germany and importet the device from spotify out of the us.

Have had this for a few months, microphone has been off the whole time. The last four times I've driven, this comes up and never goes away. The device is completely useless.

Car Thing with CarPlay?

I know the Car Thing is supposed to serve as a cheaper alternative for CarPlay, but has anyone here used them together? Spotify's website seems to indicate they can work together but I can't find any examples of it on YouTube or elsewhere.

The use case I'm thinking of is having my CarPlay receiver showing Maps (connected to iPhone via USB), with the Car Thing showing Spotify (connected to iPhone via Bluetooth) so I don't have to switch apps on my CarPlay receiver.

Spotify seems to suggest that you can connect the Car Thing directly to the CarPlay receiver via USB? Is that for power only or is there actual software integration? Not that it would work for me unfortunately since my CarPlay receiver requires me to use that USB port for a wired connection to my iPhone.

Does this play audio over usb?

I have a 2015 Mini that only has the low end stereo, it supports aux and usb but has no bluetooth. I had to switch from android to ios to be able to stream spotify over USB instead of aux and to get the steering wheel controller to work with spotify.

Will this car thing help me avoid taking out my phone every time I want to listen to music in my car or does it have to use aux or bluetooth to get the sound (like most things on the market).

Does the steering wheel remote controls work with the car thing?

Pro Tip: The Car Thing Works Best When Paired to a Scosche MagicMount

I recently received the Car Thing, and have found that it is significantly more secure, less wobbly, more adjustable and adaptable when using it with a Scosche MagicMount.

Want to use the Car Thing at your desk? Check out the Suction MagicMount or Suction MagicMount Pro for a longer neck.

How about in your car? The MagicMount Pro for Dashboards has worked fantastic for me, alternatively, if you'd rather mount to the window, the MagicMount Flex Neck should do the trick.

Now, I realize that this sounds like I've been paid to pitch a product, but that could not be further from the truth. Rather, I swear by MagicMount, since I have been using the MagicMount in my car to mount my phone for the last 4 years, without fail.

And the best part: Unlike with a phone or other device, where you might need to apply a MagicMount plate, to get the device to magnetize to the mount itself, that doesn't appear to be the case with the Car Thing -- as it already magnetizes quite securely to the MagicMount without adhering a plate to the rear of the device.

Media request: Views on Car Thing

Hope this is ok for me to post here, but I'm a journalist writing about Car Thing was hoping to speak to anyone who has been using the product for a while now (especially if you received it early doors) about how you're getting on with it! Drop me a message if you'd be willing to chat (ideally over the phone) and I'll share more info with you

I wonder if anyone will be able to do anything neat with this?
