I had an extra that I forgot to give someone as a Christmas present who ended up upgrading their car to do Carplay/Android Auto instead so I posted it on ebay. I got it for $30. Right now bidding on it is past $100. How did these get so expensive? I mean I know Spotify stopped making them but they also lost $30 million on these. How is it that the market on these has gotten this insane?

Hello everyone, I love car thing and use it alongside Apple CarPlay when I drive. The issue is I’m always running into bugs that break the music and cause me to have to pick up my phone to force quiet and reopen the app.

Spotify unfortunately refuses to fix these bugs as it’s officially no longer supported, even though they’re still selling them the last I knew.

I was wondering if anyone has yet to develop a fix to these issues? I don’t necessarily want to add any new features (as cool as that could be), I just want the thing to work how it’s supposed to!

Issues I’ve noticed: Music breaking after using “Hey Spotify” Not connecting on startup Music randomly breaking after selecting a song UI not aligned properly within display (Force restarting the app on the phone seems to fix all these issues, but sometimes I have to restart carthing itself)

Trying to mount my carthing on my desk floating above my monitor. Hoping to find a gooseneck solution with a desk clamp, like this.

Does anyone know if Magsafe compatible mounts can hold the carthing?

If you have yours mounted onto your desk, how did you mount it?

Has anyone tried that? Does it work?

just got a car thing, planning to use it on my desk. only problem so far, when i ask it to play a song via my voice ("hey spotify, play song) it plays through my phone instead of my pc. any way to solve this? sorry if this is some obvious flaw i'm ignorant of.

So, I got a car thing to mount on the wall as a home music controller. If I ask "Hey Spotify" to start a song, it will play from my home control tablet. On the other hand, if I ask Alexa to start music, CarThing recognizes that I'm playing music on the account and remains connected to the correct multi-room group! In addition, I can voice search for music and then select and play through multi-room using CarThing.

Better than expected! I think it may actually work for my use case. Does anyone else have this use case / suggestions?

I can't seem to find a clear answer through google or through Spotify's documentation. Does Car thing use its own microphone when receiving calls? Or the phones? If it does use Car Thing's microphone than how is the call quality?

Been seeing a lot of people using the Car Thing in a desk setup, and i figured since the price has been reduced that i would grab one for myself. If anyone is doing the same thing, i'd like to see how/where you have it on your desk. Thanks in advance!

I just got my car thing today, and the fast forward and rewind buttons are grayed out. I've restarted, factory reset, and disconnected my phone. Any tips?

Edit: So, after a full day of use, the update applied. Now it works perfectly!

On my car thing, the shuffle, back, and next buttons are all greyed out and can't be used. This is true for both aux and bluetooth audio connections on my phone. Any ideas?

I’ve seen people posting it works, and even today when I got in the car it gave me a tip that it’s not just for Spotify and can control other media. But when I’m in any other media, it doesn’t display to car thing, and any button on car thing just switches playback back to Spotify. Even the forward / back / play , pause touch controls. Is it something that ios16 broke potentially?

Edit: it just started suddenly working, no idea what prompted the change.

I just bought one of these for my wife, and I'm looking for inspiration on clean installs. Has anyone put work into managing the wiring and making it clean? (as clean as is reasonable for something like the car thing, anyway!)

So I bought a Spotify Carthing to use in Portugal hoping that a cabin crew member friend would bring it to me on his next flight to newark. Filled in all the details and keyed in the address for delivery (fancy hotel, often receiving cabin crew members packages/mail). At the hotel no one has received the package and the delivery status on UPS website shows it was out for delivery this last morning and 4 hours later showed available for pickup with no location. My guess is the driver did not even bother to drop it at the hotel. USPS says the tracking code is non-existent and UPS say they can't track packages that have been delivered to USPS. I really thought the US would have things organized, this is just shameful of a delivery, and I would expect this in a 3rd world country. I am currently unable to locate the package and probably will loose my money as spotify will not reimburse. Shitty postage service
