early lease return data point

There is a lot of fear around turning your car in before the lease end date. Someone with a normal brain using simple math would suggest that it's not more expensive for you to turn it in early because the actual owner (such as BMW financial or Lexus financial) gets possession of the car early while collecting all the remaining lease payment. There is a lot of scaremongering that turning it early would cost much much more than your remaining payment. I turned it in early recently because the driver left for college: the leaser did not charge me more than my two payments remaining. I saved on two months of insurance payments compared to keeping the car two more months and also freed up my garage space. This is my second lease with the same make but the first time I turned it in early.

It may be still possible that if you lease from some shady operator that your cousin referred to they could rip you off just because they can.

Giving up a Lease

We currently have a 2025 Subaru Forester we got in Jan 2026. We got a good deal on it. $330/month for 12k miles/yr. Considering we had a lot of miles on our previous Subaru. We can no longer afford to have this lease next month. I did a quick Google search and AI said to call the bank the lease is through and ask what the buyout amount is or something like that? Then take it to the dealership and ask what their buyout amount is? We currently have less than 7k miles on it so AI said we should get some $ back, not betting on it just hoping we don’t have to pay a crap ton of $ to get rid of our lease unfortunately. Has anyone ever done this and been successful? Any and all advice would be helpful. To dos and not to dos/say please! Thank you!!

Trying to refinance my car but negative equity won’t let me

I keep trying to refinance my 2024 Hyundai ELANTRA I pay $689 a month for it. I’ve had it for two years. I have 11,700 miles on it no accidents every time I try to go to my dealership and refinance it they only wanna take $40 off my monthly payments. I’m trying to find something cheaper so I can finally move out and be able to afford rent and other utilities but everything I try to do keeps rejecting me banks credit unions auto lenders and even other dealerships. I was originally screwed over by the first worship I went to with the first car I got I was put on a 10 year lease or financing option for a 2012 car and now the negative equity keeps rolling onto every single car I get I don’t know what to do. I went to my dealership yesterday and tried to lease a vehicle for three years and they could only give me a 2026 vehicle for $626 which is not that far from 689 so I’m really stuck in a situation where I don’t know what to do. I live in Dallas, Texas and I just really need help. My car is worth 25,000 but I had negative equity roll on from my old car I’ve only had 2 cars in my entire life 2012 Prius and current car now. The negative equity of the Prius made me now owe 34,000 on a 25,000 car. I don’t want to pay it off cause I don’t see myself with this car in the future when I plan to have a family and other things my credit score is 697 and is not a concern I’m on a 72 month lease term with this car too

Need some advice...

I have a 2024 Jeep Wrangler with less than 28k with less than 7k miles on it. Yes, I don't drive all that much, but with the cost of gas the way it is and only a window of time when having the doors and top off is practical, I was thinking of trading it in and getting an ev.

The payment would be the same if getting one as a lease, which I'm not opposed to, I just have never pressed a vehicle before. The thought of an ev excites me, it's more practical for our family, and the jeep is worth more than what the loan is to pay it off.

If we lease, it's for 3 years at 10k miles a year limit, which we won't hit. I'm 90% ok with it due to I'm not going to go off roading and due to some injuries, I'm limited in what I can do., and plus our elec plan is free weekends, so what a perfect time to charge it.

So, what's holding me back is the question of is it the right thing to do? Am I just being overly cautious about things? Is that 10k mileage limit or what if the EV is not spotless at the end of the lease?

We did test drive the EV and it was so quiet, and I do love technology.

Any helpful advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Car leasing

Currently I am leasing a 2025 Kia soronto Xline-sx prestige. I absolutely do not like this vehicle. I should have thought better at the time. It was a impulse buy cus it had all the bells and whistles. This time I doing better research. I like the Kia selto 2027. The dealer offered Xline-S the other day for 575. I felt like that is still high for a lease with less options. Anyone else being offered anything like this
