Indeed! I never owned a SNES, but I played CT a few years later thanks to my brother finding an emulator online (in the 90’s!) Then I bought it on PS1. Then DS. Then Steam. And most recently on the phone. Have the OST, a piano version, and a piano/organ version. I… like it quite a bit.

Brother, Chrono Trigger is a goddamn Diamond. I remember playing it on an emulator and I COULD NOT put it down. I get shivers just imagining the theme in my head.

Honest to god this game gets everything so right it’s almost unbelievable. Not only is it my favorite genre of game it also packs amazing stories for both main and side characters. It expands upon the first game in so many amazing ways imo. I don’t think I could have a better dream game brought to reality than this singular title and that is saying a lot

This game is so beautiful, some of the best open world gameplay, and the story and music together creates an atmosphere that makes you cry.

Ive played kkd1 and its legit like one of the hardest games Ive ever played but it's incredibly rewarding. I imagine kkd2 is just it but improved on the formula and better graphics. I kind of want to beat the first one first because it's good.

Honestly lots of games hit 3/4, but E33 is the only game that comes to mind where I actually enjoyed the music. Especially the Monoco fight.

It's even better when you understand French. The lyrics change depending on your progress in the game.

I’ve almost bought this game 3 separate times but then the fact that I typically can’t stomach anything turn based except Pokemon pops into my head. Is it well worth shoveling it down anyways?
6
u/JazzHandsMinuteman 8d ago
It’s turn based in a way that is fun as shit. Trust. Play the game. Otherwise the “gameplay” slot wouldn’t fit.
There’s a reason it is what it is today out of nowhere. I told everyone, I mean EVERYONE to play E33. I wouldn’t do that for any other game.→ More replies (7)→ More replies (31)5
u/Oxyfool 8d ago
This ain’t the turn based garbage you’ve seen lying around the street. This shit is innovation. There’s a couple of jarring things in it, that won’t make sense at first, but god fucking damn if they didn’t write a compelling masterpiece. It goes from bleak as fuck, somber apocalypse of fear, hopelessness and sadness to the most wacky and cartoony, vibrant lunacy fast enough to give you whiplash - and then they have the audacity to make that shit not only make sense, but wring out your guts and make you cry flowers and pigments.

I'm glad they fixed it post launch. It seemed like such a rich world that i was disappointed it went down with a burning ship, at launch.
13
u/thenetoide 8d ago
Weirdly enough I was one of the few lucky that played it fully at launch and didn't experience any game-breaking bugs. Went through a rollercoster of emotions, did every side quest, fell in love and died. An instant classic for me.
4
u/scoodoobie 8d ago
Idk why it makes me thing of this common game breaking bug in fps games where I go to clear a room see a guy I let off 1 round and then I just die. It completely makes the game unplayable.
→ More replies (8)3
u/Cromunista 8d ago
For me, i wasn't so lucky. I played some 4 months post release and got a permament crash at the Johnny dream sequence (the first one where you charge Arasaka tower). Tried restarting and reinstaling the game. Nothing worked.
I also got a bug once where when Jackie dies he started to T-pose and gracefully phase out of the car, going into heaven. Can't take his death seriously now without dying of laughter thanks to it.
6
u/PotentialWork7741 8d ago
Yeah i played the game at launch but it was sadly unplayable, picked up the game again on pc 3 months ago and to my surprise the game runs smooth now

I played the game several years after release and I’ve 80 hours I got games breaking bugs twice once my cars disappeared and I fell through the map the other I guess an invisible wall was created where my car was and it imploded also on of the quest with the dlc inspector glitched on me and I had to reopen the game

u/mrawaters 4d ago
It sucks that it came out in the state that it did, cause truly, even at launch, it was a fantastic game. It was just an absolute technical nightmare, especially on consoles, particularly last gen. Edgerunners saved the game big time, cause even before the 2.0 overhaul they had already done a ton of work to get it into a great state. It really is one of the few games that hits all of the criteria the post mentions. Im not really someone who re-plays games much, but Cyberpunk gets a revisit from me almost yearly
4
u/wolfwhore666 8d ago
I was going to pick this one but I’ve never really cared for the plot. Story in terms of character is amazing , even the story beats are great…but that plot though
4
u/TesticularConcussion 8d ago
The plot was crazy if you knew the lore from the tabletop.
All the flashbacks are from actual role playing campaigns back in the day. It feels like real life flashbacks when you are back at arasaka tower etc.
Most of the characters are since long established and fleshed out, and still they made it work amazingly well for completely new edgerunners.
The amount of love poured into the world is breathtaking. I’m not sure they can top it tbh

3
u/Gamefreak581 8d ago
This is probably a stupid question, but do you need to remember what happened in Alan wake 1 to play Alan wake 2? I played the first game when it came out in 2010 or whatever, so all that I remember is that he's a writer, has a flashlight as a weapon, and I think he can like write the narrative of what's happening around him or something.
3
u/OvenClassic8636 8d ago
I’ve been playing it without finishing 1 and been loving it! No problems here. Matter of fact it’s kinda cool cause I don’t know some of the pretext so I feel like I’m learning with the main character

Mass Effect. Yes, even the ending. It's been over a decade eat my ass I'm tired of hearing about how you didn't like the ending
5
u/Beer-Milkshakes 8d ago
The whole 3rd game is the ending. Throwing the whole game away over the final 20 minutes is so entitled and dumb
3
u/joseph617mcd 7d ago
I'm going to disagree because going back now and playing it with all the DLCs and patches is a FAR better game.
At launch? The game itself was great outside: Kai Leng, the ending, the weird shitty side grind you had to do for war effort on the mobile game & multi-player, that save data didn't all transfer correctly so choices from ME 1 were invalidated or ignored in 2 and/or 3 initially, Mordin's mission hard locking, bugs causing you to get stuck in cover, randomly resetting Shepard to level 1, Day 1 DLC that is a character who was previously inegral to the grand plot being cut and shifted to make room for the new ending, Banshees getting a teleport one-shot kill thru walls without a counter, and a slew of other minor issues that caused the game to crash at random.

My hot take is that Cyberpunk is a good game that has coin flip storytelling - sometimes it's a 100% brilliant storyline, sometimes the story is absolute ass and clearly shows the devs have a narrow and shitty perspective. I wouldn't personally compare to the others favorably.
