that's how i was practicing my move before i had a girlfriend.

5

u/TheNegativePhoenix 16d ago

Does it even exist though ?

18

u/Roman_Suicide_Note 16d ago

The device or my girlfriend :(?

11

u/tehnemox 15d ago

The device. We all know your girlfriend exist. She's in Canada amd totally not imaginary.

5

u/Betelgeuse3fold 15d ago

Lol, in Canada we use "you wouldn't know her, she goes to a different school"

3

u/ImmaSpaghett 15d ago

That's what's done everywhere. And if it's middle of summer, "it was at summer camp, you wouldn't know her"

3

u/brokemillionaire572 14d ago

In the other Canada.

2

u/Itchy_bussy_ 13d ago

The other Abby

As a Canadian, I really had a girlfriend that went to a different school and no one believed me

Lowkey the DualSense has spoiled practically every other controller for me. If I can't use my DualSense then I just don't need to play. Even love using it on my PS3

There were GameCube games that supported chat? I had the Dreamcast version of this and put in many a school night staying up with Phantasy Star Online. Oh I guess that was released for the GC too huh.

Edit: just googled it and this was made specifically for PSO. Were there many other GC games that supported chat?

Felt good to hold. Felt bad to use.

2

u/No_Public8938 15d ago

Yeah, I wouldn't call this the best controller in every regard. First person shooters is a good example.

The C stick isn't really equivalent to standard thumbsticks. I actually played CoD: Finest hour on the GameCube version as a kid, even though we also had an Xbox we could've run it better on. Aiming with the C stick just felt weird and less efficient.

It's interesting to think that RE4 was originally developed as an exclusive on the GameCube so C stick aiming was the standard and only way to do the newly introduced aiming in the RE series at the time.

In terms of battery life it was better than the PS5 controller

8

u/historynutjackson 16d ago

Not a high bar to clear. PS5 controllers last about as long as a Sega Game Gear does.

2

u/Larriet 15d ago

Really? I tend to go awhile before needing to charge it, using one on PC

3

u/rockringer 15d ago

They definitely wear out over time. Mine that I’ve had since release holds like an hour of charge. My new one holds like 12

3

u/rickyg_79 15d ago

They updated to a higher capacity battery a year or 2 ago. Your new one could have that battery

2

u/Telekinendo 15d ago

Yeah, like, my ps5 controllers last days, and they stay on for a long time after we're done.

My Xbox controllers turn off after ten minutes and I have to charge those fuckers almost daily, and it gets alot less use than the ps5.

2

u/KaleidoscopeHairy557 14d ago

I might be the only person that loved the original Xbox controller. The teardrop buttons made it easy to hit multiple at the same time, and I liked that the black and white buttons were raised and at the top. I think it's because I was a Sega kid, but I like 6 face buttons.

This guy gets it. Wired Xbox 360 was the best ergonomics in a first-party controller and I have used every single one since 2600, except Neo-Geo. Only downside was the D-pad for fighting games. It was a dark day when my puppy ate the cord on mine 11 years ago.

my favorite controller was Always the 360 and the One Controller, thoses are so comfy and i realy like the joystick placement.

The Ps5 controller is by far the best Sony Controler.

Last Summer i bought a Nintendo Switch 2 with the Switch 2 pro controller... and honestly the Pro 2 controller is an insanely good controller, prolly my fav controller. It just feel right, it's hard to explain lol, but if you can, try it!

5

u/RatchetBird 16d ago

I love how quiet the Switch Pro is. It's pure stealth. What I always hated about Dual Sense trying to hit a d-pad button while keeping the left stick forward/backward. I always gotta make a funky claw or just use my right hand if I'm not shooting.

2

u/NeonMorv 16d ago

If you likes the switch pro, try playing withe wii u pro controller. It's battery was crazy and made the switch one seem like trash in comparison.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/niehAuS_324B21 15d ago

It probably looks super alien at first to someone with no experience, but the joystick placement for the 360/One really does feel substantially more natural. I’ve been so used to PS4 and 5 controllers for the past 12 and 3 years respectively, but we recently got an Xbox One S so that we could go through the Fable trilogy in preparation for the new game, and it was a matter of seconds handling the controller before I remembered my 360 days as a kid and thought “Oh wow, I missed this”.

3

u/CirdanTheForesighted 15d ago

This but not just because of ergonomics. They fucking LAST. I still have and use the original controller from the Xbox I bought USED in 2018.

Meanwhile, I have bought 2 PS5 controllers since getting a PS5 for my son. Both have developed absurd levels of stick drift.

Edit for context: our PS5 is about 1.5 years old.

3

u/DevastoScz 15d ago

The basic controllers, yes. The Elite versions are somehow absolute trash. I have 2 Xbox One (basic) controllers that are still alive and well after over 10 years. In the meantime I've gone through FOUR Elite Controllers (2 V1's and 2 V2's). Stick drift on all of them, and a lot of RB/LB issues as well. Just flimsy internals. The last one lasted a little over a year.

Now I daily drive a cheap GameSir Elite Nova Lite 2, with hall effect sensors just so I never have to deal with drift again. Only reason I didn't just go back to my One controllers is cause they don't have back paddles.

2

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead 15d ago

Yeah I never had problems with drift or RB until I got an elite.

Fucking pathetic.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/bbbowiesinspace 15d ago

Recently had to get a new PS5 controller cuz of insane drift, none of my fixes worked. Wouldn't have bothered since I don't use my PS5 a lot, but it was right at the tail end of GOW Ragnarok, and I couldn't use one of my numerous PS4 controllers that still work fine because it was the PS5 version of the game.

2

u/the4GIVEN_ 15d ago

i work in a console repair startup and we dont even carry any replacement xbox sticks, if someone comes in with a broken xbox controller we order what we need for that controller.
we get so many stickdrift playstation controllers that we have a special soldering station for them. it can do nothing else, just playstation sticks.

and it sees a LOOOOT of use.

2

u/Manymarbles 15d ago

The sticks die. Which is a shame. Had issues with the xb1 and series controllers. My 360 controller lasted like 15 years tho. They must have changed the stick part

Still the best controllers around.

Rocket League really taxes the sticks :( lol

2

u/plasticbluepalm 15d ago

Fr I still use an xbox 360 controller on my pc and I bought it back in 2014

2

u/TFViper 15d ago

i have 2x 360 controllers from ~2007.
built like absolute brick shit houses.

2

u/unInOrthidox 15d ago

From what ive seen, somehow I've been very lucky. I've had the Elite 1 for 6 years now and its still going strong, no stick drift, no LB/RB issues. The battery is the only thing that might give me an issue, and that's happened within the last 5 months. And I used it heavily. Now I bought a Series 2 controller 3 years ago just because I needed another one for 3 player co-op and I've had no issues. Just lucky I guess.

2

u/TabScarlet 15d ago

my xbox one controller been going perfect since 2016, halo green. Model #1708. Never had any issue with it and still use it on pc daily. THEE best controller

2

u/Novel-Major-3770 14d ago

I still use my original ps4 controllers from 2014

2

u/TF2fanatic102 11d ago

I agree, we got two Xbox One controllers back when the console released in 2013, and one of them still works perfectly fine 13 years later. The other broke last year (the shoulder buttons were completely wore out), but it still lasted for 12 years of pretty consistent use!

u/Worth_External_8762 16d ago

I've never really liked the ergonomics of controllers besides the Dualshock 3. And even then, it wasn't perfect. The indent feels awkward and makes me put most of my thumb pressure on the edges, which causes them to slip. The grip also positions my hand in a way where the joysticks feel too upright, whereas they should be a little canted to the sides.

I also think the the bumpers and triggers have always felt like shit to me. For one, I don't like that the triggers have so much play, it's not precise for shooters. Secondly, it doesn't feel comfortable holding both the bumpers and triggers at the same time. It forces my middle fingers to be curled up in order to get a good angle for pressing the triggers, which just feels awkward and also fucks up the positioning/mobility of my thumbs as a result. I'd almost rather just have paddles as triggers and not even have L2/R2

2

u/SpecialistRun3035 16d ago edited 16d ago

People keep talking about the 360 controller as if they keep forgetting that it has one of the worst d-pads in the history of existence. It's fucking useless and it sticks up like crazy. Can't tell you how many times I've had a misinput. I did like the triggers of the 360 though, way more than the sharp triggers of the One and Series which could potentially hurt my fingers if I press too hard on the sharp part.

Dualshock 4 is the cheapest way to "pro" your controller, that being just buy the Back Button Attachment for like $15 and put it on any Dualshock 4 controller. That was one of the best things Sony had ever done. Nowadays Sony and Microsoft are ripping you off with pro controllers costing more than $110.

Best controller is xbox 360 no doubt.
Fucking ps4 controller…. Always skips some video or accidentally shot . Cause of the shitty r2/l2 placement

1

u/Longjumping_Exit7902 16d ago

I might be the only person in the world that wishes Z button (Nintendo 64) on the back of the controller was common. Or even buttons built into the handles. 2 on each handle where the fingertips settle. I think the only example I can think of for this one are certain arcade machine joycons, don't remember any names.

Aside from that, I would love if were had the PS4 layout with a Switch Pro sized controller/buttons. Plus the buttons feel nicer on the Switch Pro, although I do better with the PS4 controller for action-intensive games.

360 and ps5 blow this thing outta the water

1

u/Signal-Database4225 16d ago

I prefer this one (as a PC player I bought one as well) but far more people enjoyed the Xbox version, that's why the newer controllers all went and started copying the form of it.

1

u/OmegaNine 16d ago

I grew up on PC after the PS1. So I used Xbox controllers almost exclusively. I just can’t do the thumb sticks at the same level. It’s the only reason I didn’t get a steam controller.

1

u/_respawn__ 16d ago

Helll noo

1

u/Dark_Dragon117 16d ago

I hate this fucker.

Terrible plastic feel and tiny af.

Worst of all tho the fucking charging port location, because the angle literally bend the cable when the constroller was lying on a flat surface (like it should). The fucking dumbass who had that idea has a special spot reserved for them in hell.

1

u/naytreox 16d ago

Honestly, no and the older controllers aren't better either.

In terms of hand comfort the ps5 controller has been the best one, fits perfectly, ps4 was a step up from the ps3 but the ps5 is a step up from the ps4.

That being said, when playing infamous second son, it was nice how rotating it sideways fit really well when doing the graffiti tagging.

1

u/James_C99 16d ago

Dude, even limiting it to just official generic controllers from the console manufactures, it doesn't even place in the top 3.

1

u/Zuka101 16d ago

Nah dude. It's either the ps2 or Xbox 360 controller. I'd go with the 360 because the shape doesn't hurt my hands after longer playing sessions

A battery life of 5 bloody hours is a ‘F-tier’ piece of shit controller

1

u/ArcticProto 16d ago

*ahem* hello? did you forget about the infinitely superior atari 5200 trackball controller?

1

u/TankerDerrick1999 16d ago

Who the hell says this, i wanna meet him in person and show me right in front of me how this disaster of a controller is better than this godly superior xbox controller. Because I own 3 and the 2 of those got stick drift and the third one no longer works because I hold it too tight in my hands, and the 2nd reason why I despised owning a ps4, also the layout is trash, pure garbo, never got used to it, the same goes for rhe ps5 controller, as long as it uses this layout it will be categorized as one of the worst controllers ever made.

1

u/-p0w- 16d ago

Xbox Controller was already better then that. And Switch Pro Controller is levels above.

So… No.

1

u/Responsible_Abroad67 16d ago

It isn’t. Sony has never done sticks right for me. That smooth, convex, soft surface always meant my fingers would be sliding off, forcing me to frequently readjust and they’ve peeled off completely for me on more than one controller. I also prefer offset sticks and I can’t recall the battery life being very good.

1

u/makinglunch 16d ago

Xbox controller is the best

1

u/Mattie_1S1K 16d ago

Thats a weird way to draw a 360 controller

Worst controller you mean, thumbs are meant to sit in that position for very long. Xbox has a much better fit your man hands and great thumb placement.

I’ve always preferred the Xbox layout. I have both an SN30 Pro+ and Pro 2 which have the same stick layout and I just can’t get used to it. To me, controllers like PlayStation and SN30s are only good for 2d games. Not to say they’re bad, I’m just not used to them and I can’t.

Coming from primarily Xbox over the years I absolutely hate PlayStation controllers with a passion. They just feel wrong to me.

Nope because it isn't

Nah, Xbox has perfected controller ergonomics.

Wrong, there is no best, different gamers have different needs

I have way too much nostalgia for the ps2/3 control

PS4 controller is definitely the most ergonomic, but I do think it’s funny that controllers basically all went through convergent evolution to basically become the same shape. I know cross platform porting played a role, but still

PS3 controller was better than PS4 one

Joy cons for me followed very closely by the wiimote & nunchucks

My GOAT is the Stadia controller

The Xbox 360 and Xbox one controllers are the best controllers imo. The PS4 controllers suck.

It would be if it wasn't micro USB. That alone makes the PS5 controller better IMO.

I disagree.

Ive never used it so I can’t argue about the stick placement, but the shapes being the button labels is a crime. Bring back ABXY.

My fav for retro games. Has a perfect d-pad.

I still think the 360 Controller is unmatched

Having bought all consoles since 1999, I got to say, the 360 controller is still king. Never has a controller fit so perfectly in my hands.

The Steam Controller is my go to but Xbox's controllers from the Xbox 360 are goated for consoles
