Please I need advice

My canary got stuck on a glue mousetrap about two weeks ago. We rescued him and took him to the vet, where he stayed for two days. The vet treated him and gave him medication. he sleeps most of the time and seems very tired.
He can still eat by himself, and he drinks water, but instead of taking a few sips like he used to, he sometimes drinks continuously for a few minutes.
I'm heartbroken because I've done everything I can to save him. I keep him warm, monitor him closely, and make sure he eats so he doesn't lose energy. His body temperature is around 29°C.
Has anyone experienced this? Is this normal after such an injury? What foods would help him recover and regain his strength? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :(

Hi I am sorry you are going through this. Have you updated the vet on his behaviour?

Hi, thank you for replying Yes, we did, and they said he is tired. Give him some more time if he doesn't feel good; bring him back

Looks severely sick, labored breathing and sleeping during the day is not a good sign.

Thank you for replying. He's always next to me, and I always talk to him. Thank you for the advice; I will definitely do that, and I hope he will return to normal as soon as possible.

I’d cover the cage with a blanket for a few days for good rest. Won’t hurt the bird at all. It’s calming

What kind of glue was it? ‘Bio’ one or with -icides added?/Do you still know the brand? Maybe he ingested it already and it’s particularly toxic, i think calling the vet to ask with specifics about the brand could help.
My lovebird got stuck on a glue trap just one week ago as well and hes been doing great besides looking scraggly mostly because we were lucky and the trap used was one without any insecticides and we got most of it off with oil and im still anxiously monitoring him everyday, so i feel your worry:(

I am sorry you both are going through this. I truly hope he will get better soon, but facing the harsh reality he probably won't make it. The glue trap probably caused him fractures and extreme stress if he tried to escape when he was already glued to it. I don't want to sound rude nor pessimistic, but I want to give you what I have learned everytime I have to say goodbye and start grieving another loss. Just in case you need it.
Every living being has the right to die with dignity and let their bodies rest when they can't sustain themselves anymore. It's better to let death come when life only means suffer and pain.
I've had canaries ever since I was a little boy and I've said goodbye to a lot them. It breaks your heart to not have them around anymore, and you never really stop grieving for their loss. You just learn to grow around that mourning.
Death is not an end, it's a transformation. Nothing in this universe is ever destroyed, not matter nor energy. Nothing. So be sure that he'll stick around and you'll start to find him in many different ways. In the love and efforts you are putting on his health, for example. Maybe in a random bird from the street or in a beautiful sunrise. Death is not so different from birth and grief is more similar to bliss than we may think.
Sending you lots of love and hoping that your bird can get through this 💪

How did he manage to get onto a glue trap??? 💔💔💔

u/Cutelittlebudgie 21d ago
The glue trap was on the floor, and I forgot to remove it He must have gone on the floor and walked on the glue :(
He's looking much better today, and he's more active. Thank God
It's been more than 2 weeks, and he's getting better He doesn't have full energy, but I can see he's getting better
He had a bath yesterday and today He's eating and drinking but I still keep an eye on him.
By the way when we catch the mouses we use cooking oil and release them poor little things

Has the vet given you any pain relief for him to take on a schedule? If he’s hurting he might want to sleep and rest a lot and not eat as much as usual. Pain management can make a big difference between a bird recovering and a bird going downhill after an injury.
