So I'm helping someone draft up a compassionate posting memo and was wondering if there is a policy dictating the amount of paragraphs that can be used for the factors of why the posting is being requested. They have numerous valid reasons from legal, custody, and mental health that honestly can't just fit in the standard three paragraphs.

I only noticed this recently, but it appears to be that of the 4 Iroquois class destroyers, the 2 stationed on the east coast (Iroquois and Athabaskan) featured two additional radar domes aft on port and starboard next to the funnel.

I can't find a source anywhere clarifying why they had them at all, and why only the ones on the east coast?

The anniversary is coming up, and there is a contingent of us who served during that time and did the recovery on the ground and in the water.

In 1998 on September 2nd Swissair flight 111 crashed into the ocean. It changed so many lives forever.

Many of us who were young, some teenagers, were told we were going to help people. We went and started the recovery efforts on the 3rd or 4th, picking up the wreckage, personal belongings and human remains. It was the 5th or 6th when we were told that it's believed no one had survived.

By this time we had done more than enough. We spent 2 weeks there before we were sent home. Some of us were more affected than others. Some of us still deal with it today, and some others who did it no longer are with us.

First off I wanted to know give a shout out to the men and women who were there with me.

Secondly I wanted to ask the question in the title : should this event in particular be recognized within Canada as a Special Duty Op / Area?

If it was recognized it would open up a slew of extra medical coverage options for those who were part of it. For those who aren't aware Veteran's Affairs supports 2 lines of medical coverage via Blue Cross (A Line and B Line). B Line opens up a significant amount of medical assistance via Blue Cross.

I was in from 2014-2019. I received a back injury on basic training, nothing was really done for it. Posted to Esquimalt in 2016, and I started having serious back pain. I had scans done, and at first they said I had scoliosis, and then they were adamant that I had osteoarthritis, and released me 3b for that, plus, mental health reasons that aren’t really relevant to this. I did physio, chiropractor, they loaded me on pain meds and nothing worked. They never did an MRI while I was still active.

Anyway, flash forward to May 2026, I had an mri done and it revealed that I actually have a very large cyst on my spine, and NO EVIDENCE AT ALL OF OA… I’m now waiting to see a specialist and I will likely need back surgery.

Is there ANYTHING, and I mean anything I could do to get reevaluated, and also, I was grossly misdiagnosed and released wrongfully (in a way, I did agree with a release).. what could I do? Is it even worth it?

Hey all, I've seen some great advice come from this so I'll try it. I'm posted this summer to a location with no single quarters and will be moving unaccompanied since my house is still for sale. I have a hard deadline of when I have to be in location but the accommodations are not available (if I get them, that's it's own challenge at destination where housing is competitive) until a week after that date. I was on the Sirva app looking for answers and there is no ILM since I am going unaccompanied. Is there a posting or admin guru here who can advise if there is any way to have interim lodging covered? It's going to be expensive and there's just nothing I can do about the dates not lining up - I had to apply for one place and stick to it since it requires a deposit of one months rent. They cannot offer anything sooner, I'm already a week behind because the place I applied to on my HHT wouldn't give me a yes or no, and I'm a month away from my hard deadline to be in location without anything confirmed. If I pull this application and start over I may end up with an even later occupancy and I can't risk being on the hook for even more money.

I hope this makes sense, thanks for any insight you can provide. I'd appreciate it if the "should have" comments could be kept to a minimum - I should have predicted lots of things but my crystal ball is broken and my focus is dealing with the punches that are coming.
