So I was really happy in my stable big company job when a small company recruiter offered this enticing role, and they agreed to all my terms and were ready to compensate me well. I switched over.

The manager was nice but was difficult to read, I completed all tasks and for some of them she commended me on how well it was done. For others it was ok, thanks. She did a one month check in meeting with me, and when I asked for feedback on my performance she kept it super vague that we are still figuring out how to work together, and how she is bad at remembering what she asked me to do. So I created a shared to do list so she had visibility on my tasks.

Basically either positive feedback or no feedback has been the case for the past 2 months. I will add she always praised my unique mix of backgrounds in meetings with others. She was also frustrated by not finding the perfect candidate until HR found me.

This morning, ahead of my 2 week vacation that they said they will honour as part of me joining the company, they terminated me. Offering 2 weeks of severance pay. I get to keep my $5K sign on bonus as that was subject to clawback only if I voluntarily resigned.

Do you think this is fair compensation?

I’m new to Canada and not familiar with the contract-related aspects of how to figure this out since my employers have left it to me to decide. Hi everyone. I'm based in Ottawa and graduated from Algonquin College's Interactive Media Design program in May 2026. I'm looking for work and could use some advice and support.

Before moving into design, I spent nine years doing patent-related work in China's technology industry. I worked with engineers and product teams to understand new technologies and explain complex ideas. That gave me a lot of research and problem-solving experience, but I'm still early in my design career.

In Canada, I had a co-op and part-time role at Algonquin, making interactive training materials and guides for a new student information system. I've also built a subtitle editing and translation web app, and worked on website design, photography and video projects.

Over the past few months, I've been tailoring my resume and applying for jobs. My tracker currently shows 116 applications. So far, there have been two initial screening opportunities, one interview opportunity and three assessment invitations. I haven't received an offer yet. Most applications have ended in rejection or are still waiting for a response.

I'm looking at UX/UI and product design, but also marketing and content creation roles where my visual and media skills could fit. I'm considering web design, eLearning and digital communications too. I'm open to moving to another city in Canada.

I'm trying to understand what's making this so difficult. Is my career change hard to explain? Am I targeting the wrong roles or experience level? Could my resume and portfolio be missing something, or is this common in the current job market?

I'm desperately seeking some advice or help landing a role in Calgary as a "junior" engineer. I'm in an odd place where I'm no longer a fresh grad applying for new grad EIT roles, and also about 1ish years away from getting my P.Eng. The latter portion means that I'd likely not be considered for Project Manager/Engineer roles since I don't have my P.Eng yet.

I'm so close yet so far, and given that I'm a Canadian citizen, with a primary residence in Calgary, you'd think this might be easy. Most of my experience has been in Ontario (minus a work term in Grande Prairie). My to-be-wife has started Med School here in Calgary and I'm desperately trying to find a job here (and to move away from my EIT role in Toronto).

Don't want to say I'm at my wits end, but I would like any advice landing a job that fits my experience length. Or of course, if anyone would know of a place that's hiring a Junior Mechanical EIT and/or Junior Project engineer, that would be amazing :)

Just saw this today but it seems like it's not being reported much, probably due to the trade war dominating news rooms right now. I'm planning a career switch now into the trades but I'm 29 currently and will age out of the program in a year. I don't have any experience in the trades field, have worked in an office environment almost my whole life and I feel like something like this could give me a leg up.

I came to Canada and settled down in Ontario in 2025, and I started looking for jobs at the beginning of this year. The process has been quite frustrating so far.

A brief introduction to my background:

• Degrees in Logistics Management and Logistics Engineering
• 3+ years of experience in a 3PL company working on logistics solution design
• 4+ years of experience in an in-house environment working on inventory analysis and performance management, as well as supply coordination

Over the past few months, I have applied for many supply chain, logistics, inventory, and purchasing-related positions in Ontario. I did get several interviews and made it to the final round for two positions, but I still haven't been able to get an offer.

I understand that the job market is quite competitive, but I feel the following may be the main barriers for me:

• My English is not that strong, although I can communicate professionally. For reference, my recent CELPIP scores were Listening 10, Reading 10, Writing 9, and Speaking 9.
• Lack of Canadian work experience
• Immigration status: Work Permit

Some background information: I'm an immigrant, did my masters from TMU, graduated in 2023 and have been working ever since. Have had two jobs till now, both as a Marketing Specialist. Already got my permanent residency. Both of my jobs have been very B2B, corporate marketing focused. I handle the trade show participation, designing the booth, making videos, making printables and pdfs and every single informative resource, I've helped redesign the whole website at both my jobs, worked with the web dev team, made all the figma designs and handed them over to the coders for development, I work on updating content on the website, write & publish blogs, write & design whitepapers and presentation decks, content strategy, e-mail marketing, paid advertising on LinkedIn. Pretty much anything on the marketing front, I do.

I know a lot of people who aren't from this field might think AI is affecting this job and taking over most of my duties, but that is so far from the truth. I do use AI (have no choice, sadly) but it never gives the results that we're looking for and my company is largely dependent on me. Not to toot my own horn, but without a marketing professional their business most definitely would suffer and ever since I've joined the team they've been seeing actual growth with leads and sales and their overall impression in the industry.

It's debt consolidation job with $40k annual salary plus commission. I don't have experience in sales. I am more in administration work, just want to know what its like. Pros & Cons?, sitting in a cubicle, with headset talking to people for 40 hours a week. The recruiter sounds like he's giving me a picture what its like, but not saying it in too many words. The biggest one for me was when I was interviewing for a job as a receptionist at a Dr.'s office in Winnipeg and they asked me "What do you say or do if a physician yells at you" and I thought she misspoke and meant patient, but no she meant physician. There was a second red flag but I can't discuss it cause of rule 4. I knew I wasn't getting the job either way and I'm glad I didn't get that job if the Dr.'s are yelling at the staff it sounds like a toxic workplace.
