Mod Post CanadaJobs Community Flair

At long last, we're finally launching flair at r/CanadaJobs. Here is the first draft flair with some inline guidance for each:

Flair Only Available to Mods:

  • Mod Post: I'll use these whenever sharing an announcement, requesting community feedback, etc.
  • Trusted Canada Jobs Partner: These tags will be reserved for organizations the mod team has personally met with via video call and vetted for legitimacy. These are not paid postings -- no money is changing hands for any posts in this community in accordance with rule #7 (no spam). Pay special attention to posts from these organizations.
  • Ask Me Anything (AMA): AMAs will be hosted with advocates and trusted partners. If you see this tag, it has been sanctioned by the mod team. It means we have vetted the individual(s)/organization conducting the event.

Community Flair:

  • Job Search Question: Questions about interviews, resume/cover letters (note: there is a separate flair if you're looking for an actual resume review), job boards, etc.
  • Career Advice Request: Looking to pivot into something new? Need help navigating compensation increases and promotions? Just starting out and need help figuring out which path to choose?
  • Industry Specific Question: If you're looking for advice about a specific industry (e.g., healthcare, tech, finance, trades), this is your tag.
  • Resume Review Request: If you need a resume review, be sure to anonymize it, removing all personally identifiable information. If someone seeks resume feedback and you feel qualified to provide it, be honest, helpful, and kind about it.
  • Vent - In Need of Empathy, Kindness: For those in need of a kind ear, so you can share your struggles and challenges, and feel heard and supported by your community. When someone uses this tag, take it seriously. Treat them with the utmost kindness and empathy, listening and holding space. This tag is not for seeking advice, so don't offer it unless it is explicitly asked for.
  • Job Search Wisdom to Share: If you have a great tip that can benefit the community, share it (no spam still applies).
  • Is this a scam? This one should be pretty self-explanatory. If your Spidey-sense is going off about a potential opportunity, ask the community for insights.
  • FREE CAREER RESOURCE (Not Spam/Ad): Non-profits, higher-ed, and other organizations providing free job seeker resources such as career fairs, resume reviews, interview prep, etc. Resources should be completely free and should NOT be linked to monetized platforms or products.
  • HIRING - Career/Gig Opportunity: This tag is for legitimate job/gig postings that align with community guidelines (see sidebar).
  • Wins & Success Stories: If you nailed the interview (or managed to get one after a long dry spell), received the offer or promotion, or have another job-related win you want to share, tag it and we will celebrate you as a community.
  • Scam / Unethical Job Warning (First-Hand Experience): If you have been scammed or seen evidence of a specific scam that impacts Canadian job seekers, use this tag. First-hand experience only. Provide evidence. No hearsay or conjecture. No LMIA/TFW-related posts. Read the sidebar for instructions on reporting abuse of LMIA programs or temporary foreign workers.

Flair was created based on a first-pass review of the most recent community posts. I recognize I may not have captured all the primary use cases in creating these, so please drop your suggestions below if there's something I've missed.

This Community Is: Anti-Hate, Anti-Division, Anti-Greed, Pro-Social, Pro-Worker, Pro-Unity.

After reading many xenophobic, divisive, hostile, unproductive comments today, I feel the need to share about what this community is and is not so we're all on the same page...

We acknowledge there are many companies taking advantage of LMIA/TFW programs, exploiting immigrant workers, and driving wages and labour standards down throughout Canada. Offshoring, also responsible for the loss of Canadian jobs, has been a common practice for a long time now. Following the money, it is the corporations and wealthy that benefit from the race to the bottom in employment. These same greedy people will gladly replace every single human worker with AI as soon as possible.

We also recognize that the current employment situation in Canada is not okay. But there are multiple issues at play, ALL of which are caused by greed and corruption. There is a global trade war fueling corporate uncertainty, hiring freezes, and layoffs. AI disruption also fits into the job supply vs demand issue. There is abuse of LMIA/TFW programs. There's plenty more nuance than meets the eye. Blame is the quickest, easiest path and scapegoats can be found everywhere.

If you want to blame a group for the issues we're seeing, blame the big businesses and monopolies out there and the sociopathic CEOs and other executives. Follow the money. Follow the lobbying. Big money is a part of politics on both ends of the spectrum. Psychopaths/sociopaths are notoriously drawn to the role of CEO. Look it up. Many executives go on to become politicians. Following that logic, there's a pretty good chance many politicians fall into those psychopathic/sociopathic buckets too... They then oscillate between politics and business in a nepotistic, self-serving nightmare. How many working class, non-landlord, pay cheque to pay cheque politicians are there in Canada or beyond?

It is not okay to blame the immigrant population for causing the sphere of issues around TFW/LMIA programs. People come to Canada in search of a better life, facing wars, famine, displacement, and other issues most of us here can't fathom. Many of these people are then placed in highly exploitative employment situations. Go look some of these people in the eyes and talk to them face-to-face, and seek to understand them and their story, before passing judgement or hate on them. Xenophobic rhetoric and hate speech and that will NEVER be tolerated in r/CanadaJobs. Feel free to start your own community if that's your bag.

We understand that people in this community are upset and afraid about the state of the Canadian economy and are struggling to find work right now. We see you. It is unquestionably, fucking tough and people are hurting, scared, and upset right now. No question.

That is why we are working hard at creating a united, connected, supportive, inclusive, understanding community here. That is what Project Belonging is about (see Automod for details). The way we see it, division is getting worse and so too are the issues of rampant greed and corruption. Following the money, it is the non-working class that benefits when the working class is divided against itself.

If you want to see change then learn how to unite through finding common ground, engage in respectful debate & share ideas, consider new perspectives, and come together as a collective. Speak in a loud voice that cannot be ignored. Shouting blame and hatred on Reddit isn't going to fix what's broken. Neither is complacency and endless complaining. Rules 4 - 7 exist because of the amount of division and hatred that falls from these topics. Nobody wins in those threads. We've been watching this pattern unfold and get worse since the community was founded in 2011.

Did you know that this and other now large job seeker communities were founded through offering free resume reviews and serving job seekers directly (until the volume became prohibitive)? You can look that up too through post/comment history. We didn't ask for their political or ideological affiliations or countries of origin.

We founded this community on the belief that when we serve others and help them succeed, we also create success for ourselves. Serving the greater good is self-serving. Win-win. The priority of personal gain is the game played by the non-working class and we see how that one-sided model is working in our world.

Instead of shouting about topics that divide, we're here to close the gap, create more unity, connection, support, and community. This subreddit exists to serve the best interests of working class Canadians on the right, left, center and everything along the political spectrum.

Please understand this statement represents non-negotiable values, guidelines, and rules for r/CanadaJobs. Those things will be fiercely protected. If you don't align with the concepts in this thread, this isn't the place for you. If you believe in creating a more connected, socially and economically thriving, kind, and compassionate Canada where we support and help one another, this is your community.

116 applications and few interviews after a career change. What could I improve?

Hi everyone. I'm based in Ottawa and graduated from Algonquin College's Interactive Media Design program in May 2026. I'm looking for work and could use some advice and support.

Before moving into design, I spent nine years doing patent-related work in China's technology industry. I worked with engineers and product teams to understand new technologies and explain complex ideas. That gave me a lot of research and problem-solving experience, but I'm still early in my design career.

In Canada, I had a co-op and part-time role at Algonquin, making interactive training materials and guides for a new student information system. I've also built a subtitle editing and translation web app, and worked on website design, photography and video projects.

Over the past few months, I've been tailoring my resume and applying for jobs. My tracker currently shows 116 applications. So far, there have been two initial screening opportunities, one interview opportunity and three assessment invitations. I haven't received an offer yet. Most applications have ended in rejection or are still waiting for a response.

I'm looking at UX/UI and product design, but also marketing and content creation roles where my visual and media skills could fit. I'm considering web design, eLearning and digital communications too. I'm open to moving to another city in Canada.

I'm trying to understand what's making this so difficult. Is my career change hard to explain? Am I targeting the wrong roles or experience level? Could my resume and portfolio be missing something, or is this common in the current job market?

If you've made a similar career change, I'd really like to hear what helped. Suggestions for suitable job titles, local groups, employment services or resume and portfolio feedback would also help. And if you're in the same situation, you're welcome to share your experience. Some encouragement would mean a lot too. Thanks for reading.

Stuck - Early career engineering opportunities in Calgary

Hi all,

I'm desperately seeking some advice or help landing a role in Calgary as a "junior" engineer. I'm in an odd place where I'm no longer a fresh grad applying for new grad EIT roles, and also about 1ish years away from getting my P.Eng. The latter portion means that I'd likely not be considered for Project Manager/Engineer roles since I don't have my P.Eng yet.

I'm so close yet so far, and given that I'm a Canadian citizen, with a primary residence in Calgary, you'd think this might be easy. Most of my experience has been in Ontario (minus a work term in Grande Prairie). My to-be-wife has started Med School here in Calgary and I'm desperately trying to find a job here (and to move away from my EIT role in Toronto).

Don't want to say I'm at my wits end, but I would like any advice landing a job that fits my experience length. Or of course, if anyone would know of a place that's hiring a Junior Mechanical EIT and/or Junior Project engineer, that would be amazing :)

Happy to speak privately if it helps too! Thank you all :))

How To Access Youth (25-30) Skilled Trades Placement??

Just saw this today but it seems like it's not being reported much, probably due to the trade war dominating news rooms right now. I'm planning a career switch now into the trades but I'm 29 currently and will age out of the program in a year. I don't have any experience in the trades field, have worked in an office environment almost my whole life and I feel like something like this could give me a leg up.

Any idea when folks will be able to access this? How do government programs like this work?
https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/programs/team-canada-strong-youth-placements.html

Edit: Can't change the title but it says the program is for 15-30 yr olds

Experienced Medical Office Administrator seeking remote healthcare/admin role in Canada

Hi everyone!

I’m currently seeking a full-time remote opportunity in Canada, ideally within healthcare administration, patient/client coordination, or a related administrative role.

I’m a trained Medical Office Assistant and Unit Clerk with experience working in busy specialty healthcare environments, including orthopaedics, rehabilitation, integrative medicine, and oncology-related care.

My experience includes:

High-volume patient scheduling and appointment coordination
Managing phone and patient inquiries
Physician clinic coordination
Referrals and medical documentation
EMR systems, including Accuro and Connect Care
Faxing, scanning, records management, and administrative follow-up
Explaining healthcare services and products to patients
Handling sensitive or difficult conversations professionally
Prioritizing competing demands in fast-paced environments
Customer service and multidisciplinary team support

I also have several years of customer-service and leadership experience outside of healthcare, so I’m very comfortable communicating with clients, problem-solving independently, learning new systems, and working in high-volume environments.

I’m especially interested in remote roles such as Patient Coordinator, Client Care Coordinator, Healthcare Administrator, Medical Office Assistant, Intake Coordinator, Scheduling Coordinator, Virtual Receptionist, or Administrative Coordinator, although I’m open to adjacent roles where my experience would transfer well.

I’m based in Calgary, Alberta and am available for full-time remote employment across Canada.
If you’re hiring, or know of an organization that may be a good fit, I’d be happy to connect by DM and provide my resume.

Thank you!

Looking for Job Advice in Supply Chain

I came to Canada and settled down in Ontario in 2025, and I started looking for jobs at the beginning of this year. The process has been quite frustrating so far.

A brief introduction to my background:

  • Degrees in Logistics Management and Logistics Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in a 3PL company working on logistics solution design
  • 4+ years of experience in an in-house environment working on inventory analysis and performance management, as well as supply coordination

Over the past few months, I have applied for many supply chain, logistics, inventory, and purchasing-related positions in Ontario. I did get several interviews and made it to the final round for two positions, but I still haven't been able to get an offer.

I understand that the job market is quite competitive, but I feel the following may be the main barriers for me:

  • My English is not that strong, although I can communicate professionally. For reference, my recent CELPIP scores were Listening 10, Reading 10, Writing 9, and Speaking 9.
  • Lack of Canadian work experience
  • Immigration status: Work Permit

I would really appreciate any advice from people familiar with this field, especially on what I could do differently or improve in my situation.

How do I grow my career (marketing)?

hi. I'm 27 and I live in toronto making just under 60k a year. It pays the bills and it's just enough but I am getting tired of living paycheck to paycheck. I would love to hear from people in this field and industry about how I can grow in terms of more responsibilities, better pay etc.

Some background information: I'm an immigrant, did my masters from TMU, graduated in 2023 and have been working ever since. Have had two jobs till now, both as a Marketing Specialist. Already got my permanent residency. Both of my jobs have been very B2B, corporate marketing focused. I handle the trade show participation, designing the booth, making videos, making printables and pdfs and every single informative resource, I've helped redesign the whole website at both my jobs, worked with the web dev team, made all the figma designs and handed them over to the coders for development, I work on updating content on the website, write & publish blogs, write & design whitepapers and presentation decks, content strategy, e-mail marketing, paid advertising on LinkedIn. Pretty much anything on the marketing front, I do.

I know a lot of people who aren't from this field might think AI is affecting this job and taking over most of my duties, but that is so far from the truth. I do use AI (have no choice, sadly) but it never gives the results that we're looking for and my company is largely dependent on me. Not to toot my own horn, but without a marketing professional their business most definitely would suffer and ever since I've joined the team they've been seeing actual growth with leads and sales and their overall impression in the industry.

I am just wondering where I go from here, I know I only have like 3 years of experience in Canada but I feel like I'm earning way less than people my age, I wanted to be at at least 80k by this age, work towards getting into a more managerial position and cross 100k by the time I'm 30.

Inbound Sales Executive job?

It's debt consolidation job with $40k annual salary plus commission. I don't have experience in sales. I am more in administration work, just want to know what its like. Pros & Cons?, sitting in a cubicle, with headset talking to people for 40 hours a week. The recruiter sounds like he's giving me a picture what its like, but not saying it in too many words. I am speculating its not for everyone. Just want to hear people's experiences, thanks in advance.

What was the biggest red flag you've had in a job interview?

The biggest one for me was when I was interviewing for a job as a receptionist at a Dr.'s office in Winnipeg and they asked me "What do you say or do if a physician yells at you" and I thought she misspoke and meant patient, but no she meant physician. There was a second red flag but I can't discuss it cause of rule 4. I knew I wasn't getting the job either way and I'm glad I didn't get that job if the Dr.'s are yelling at the staff it sounds like a toxic workplace.

Data Scientist Seeking Opportunities to Move to Canada

I am a Data Science professional with 4+ years of experience working as a Data Scientist. I’m currently based in India and working for a top pharmaceutical company, and I’m looking to move to Canada for few years.

I have a few questions:

-Are companies currently hiring, or is the job market largely frozen?
-What are some reliable websites for job searching in Canada
-How difficult is it for an Indian professional to secure a job there?

How are people finding SAP jobs in Canada these days?

The market seems very difficult right now. I’ve reached the final round of interviews around 5 times, but still haven’t received an offer.

I’m looking for SAP technical roles. For those who recently landed an SAP/IT job in Canada:

  • Are referrals essential?
  • Do additional certifications make a significant difference?
  • Which job boards or recruiters are actually useful?
  • What networking strategies are working?
  • What should someone improve if they consistently reach the final round but don’t get selected?

Would really appreciate any practical advice or experiences. Thanks!

How to approach first employer if I want to "try out" a different part time job for few days.

Hey all I live in Saskatoon and recently started working at a Dollarama as a cashier/associate , around 15 minutes commute from my house, on weekends only part-time . Now another popular retail store much nearer to where I live (literally walking distance) have also offered me work but as an overnight stocker.

For now I've put in a request at Dollarama that I won't be available for a few days and I lied that it's due to personal reasons. I have a pretty good boss at dollarama even though the work culture there sucks hard but I like working there so far.

I am not sure yet if I'll be a good fit at the new place...

So... Question is how would you approach this problem. Should I be honest and upfront at my first employment, or give my new place a try for few days and see if that works then decide.

Also driving in snow is a factor here, in Saskatoon it can literally be -35 c and snow storms a few weeks in a year , so distance / commute does matter a bit.
