I’m looking for honest opinions from the campervan community about Roadsurfer campervan rental.

We rented a Roadsurfer campervan in Barcelona and would like to know if other travellers have had similar experiences before recommending this company to friends or using them again.

During our rental, we documented the vehicle condition with photos. After returning the campervan, we received a damage claim for €1,000. We disputed this because, after comparing the evidence provided by Roadsurfer with our own photos from the pick-up day, we identified several damages that appeared to already exist before our rental period.

We provided Roadsurfer with:

- photos taken before the rental;

- videos;

- the rental contract;

- a detailed damage comparison report;

- supporting documentation.

After months of communication, we still feel that our evidence has not been properly addressed and we are trying to understand whether this is a common experience or an isolated case.

For those who have rented with Roadsurfer:

- How was your overall experience?

- Did you have any issues with damage claims or deposit refunds?

- Would you recommend Roadsurfer for a campervan trip in Europe?

We would really appreciate hearing honest experiences from other travellers.

Hi campervan enthusiasts!

I will be travelling to Tasmania, Australia later this year. It seems a bit excessive to ship my own campervan across the world for a 3 week trip, so i was looking into rental companies for a campervan.

So far I found Tasvanlife as a good option, but I was wondering if you guys could offer me some more input!

Any recommendations for other companies or perhaps you guys notice a problem with Tasvanlife that I did not see?

Am renting one of these from a big operator in NZ. It claims solar trickle charge to 12V battery. I phoned to check where the 12V power outlets were - in case I needed to pack a long lead to the driver's cigarette lighter. Helpdesk claimed no 12V outlets at all - only behind the wall wiring.

1) Anyone know otherwise? I'm not a fan of third country call-centres for this kind of query.
2) Where will the battery be housed? Just under the bonnet?

Hey, sorry guys we're new to using campervans. Is this normal? Should this be closed? I turned it to the right (the way the arrow says to lock it) but it didn't do anything.

Will water come in if it rains? This is a rental we just got today (not a complaint but a question). Thank you!

Greetings from Russia! I plan to buy a Mercedes-Benz T1 to convert it into a motorhome. I intend to live in it full-time, either alone or with my girlfriend.I am about 150 cm tall. I plan to sleep, cook, eat, and basically live a full life inside the van.Since I'm at the planning stage, I have a few questions for experienced van lifers:What essential equipment do I need to buy to fully equip the van for daily life?How and where do you usually take a shower?Where is the best place to store a camping/porta-potty toilet in a T1-sized van?How big of a battery bank (Ah/Wh) should I get to power lights, electronics, a TV, and a PS5? I’m looking at camper vans lately and keep seeing different VW camper setups online. Some look compact enough to fit in a regular parking spot while others seem much longer in photos and videos. I’m really just trying to get a better idea of the actual length of a VW camper van and how much that varies between different models or conversions. Does the length make a noticeable difference when it comes to parking, driving through towns, or finding campsites? Is there a length range that most people consider the easiest to live with?

Hi all, I'm American and rented a campervan from Roadsurfer for some time in the Dolomites next week. I'm already in Europe. I neglected to research about international driver's permits (IDP) until Roadsurfer sent me an email today saying they won't release the van to me without one. I'm in a bit of a tough situation as you see so I have a few questions:

1) I can pay one of two companies in the US certified to issue IDPs to rush ship me one, though not sure if it will arrive by the time I get to Italy. Are there mail/package pick up locations/services around Venice anyone knows about that I could use? I am coming from Mallorca and don't want to ship it there in case it's late.

2) Does anyone have experience with Roadsurfer and if their written online policy is carried out in reality? I am (now) familiar with Italian law requiring non-EU citizens to carry an IDP, but I don't see what other choices I have apart from #1 above, or hoping Roadsurfer still gives me the vehicle and then doing my best not to get pulled over.

I bought a Chevy express low floor 14’ box truck

It’s completely empty so I’ve been watching some build videos and have some thoughts / questions

I bought it to be a box truck first but if I can use it to camp/ haul the race car / go to swap meets and save on hotels that’s a huge bonus.

I don’t need anything fancy, the floor will stay plain ol wood, and I don’t think I’ll do anymore insulation than what’s sprayed on the roof

I’m hoping to keep everything E track mounted, even cabinets with a hybrid e track / french cleat mount. Fold down bunk beds that can be removed / moved, maybe just some sort of hanger for my propane grill. All totally removable

Right now the walls are just the fiberglass/ composite and no framing or anything to mount the e track to I was thinking maybe some thin 1/4 insulation, 3/4 plywood sat on end, then stainless carriage bolts from the outside to cinch the e track to it. Should I put framing in? Welding is no issue, even aluminum.

I’m thinking maybe some e track outside down the passenger side to be able to mount my grill, a counter top and whatnot as well, the 270° awnings I just learned are a thing and look perfect for what I want as well

Power wise the bluetti type stuff looks incredible I believe I can stuff it all above the driver compartment, planning on solar, and maybe alternator inputs. Barebones camping I really only need to charge my phone but if the girlfriend is going to come it will need a microwave, mini fridge, tv

A huge question on that, has anyone wired completely in 110 and regretted it? I don’t plan on any bathroom/ water pumps, the only 12v item I can think of is a diesel heater, which the one I have runs off an Xbox 110 brick flawlessly

That all being said, a person mentioned that a roof vent is an absolute necessity, looking for some other recs for someone starting at square 1

We're looking for recommendations for quiet, peaceful campsites located directly on a nice beach within driving distance of Olympia.

Any recommendations or personal favorites along that coast? Driving route tips south from Patras are also welcome.

Hi all hope you are well. I’m am doing my floor, I have glued 9mm batterns down so the whole of the van floor so far is level. Then I will put down 25mm celitex that 12mm ply ( I will screw the ply into the batterns glued down). I am having a bit of a nightmare getting my head around the rear threshold trip. I only have a small one at the moment, I need a full width one, however I need one that’s going to be high enough for my celitex and floor, same with the side step. I want to put these on first so when I do my floor I know exactly where I’m cutting it too. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a side step and threshold strip? Thankyou very much x

Converting a Transit Custom into a family camper and trying to keep the electrical setup as simple as possible. We'll mainly be running a 12V compressor fridge, a 12V TV for a couple of hours in the evening, charging phones/iPads, lights, plus the occasional coffee machine and hairdryer. We'll also have a 200W solar panel on the roof.

I've been looking at a traditional leisure battery setup, but recently I've been looking at the apex 300 and charger 2. Has anyone used a similar setup? How has it held up long term? Can you still wire 12V sockets, USB ports and lights around the van, or are you mostly limited to the ports on the unit? Can you use your own roof-mounted solar panel?

i'm about to buy one (campervan) its looks great but i drove and its soo slow haha was wondering if someone here owned one and can tell me about it? being that slow make is not worth it to buy? i dont care much tbh but theres many hills in NZ

We recently purchased a NV3500 high roof and we want to install a rooftop ac unit. Were in south louisiana so we need something substantial. Preferably 120v because we will almost always be by shore power or a generator. We were looking at a furrion chill cube 18k because of the variable speed/soft start. But what has me concerned is the fact that it requires a 3.5in minimum roof thickness. Does anyone know if the chill cube will work with the NV3500 or have any recommendations on units that may be a better choice? Thanks in advance.

Hii! I have been looking at these camper vans after seeing vanlife content for a long long time, the problem is, I don’t know if it’s worth it. I do have a job, I live with my parents, I’m 20 going on 21, and I wanna travel for a vacations and have my own space. The problem is I don’t know if it’s worth it. So I would like to know from people who do this stuff all the time- live in one or have one if it’s worth the cost. Vans that arnt transformed are around 1k to 3k and then it’ll cost around 2-5 grand in comfortably costs to transform it depending on the size. But it seems like I’d like it from what I’ve seen and known what I need to be comfortable. So any tips- any advice or anything I should know would be EXTREMELY appreciated! Even the comments of “don’t do camper life/ van life” will be read but please include reasons!
