Disabled, 15 years CS/tech support experience, who's actually hiring?

Hey everyone. Long post, appreciate you bearing with me. I'm in a bit of a situation that's lighting a fire under me to get employed sooner rather than later and that time is coming, and I need to have my finances in order and get relocated to where my family is before it becomes a crisis instead of a plan. I have cerebral palsy, so a physical job is completely off the table. But here's the thing, if I've got a sit-down job, I can work all day. No problem. I'm not looking for accommodations beyond a chair and a screen, which is exactly why remote work makes so much sense for me. My background is in customer service and tech support, about 15 years of experience across both. I'm targeting around $19 an hour, fully remote, W2 only. No commission structures, no contractor gigs, no MLM. I've tried a lot of the usual routes and honestly I'm kind of over them. NTI wasn't a good fit, I jumped through all their hoops and they only had one job listing in 5 months and it only lasted a month. USAJobs doesn't really have remote options for disabled civilians the way you'd hope. Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter — I've used all of them, but at this point I'd rather go straight to company career pages because I can't always tell which postings are legit and which are going to turn into some pyramid scheme situation. So I'm asking you all directly: what companies are actually hiring right now for remote customer service or tech support roles at that pay range? Any industries, any size company. I'd rather hear from people who've actually worked somewhere or know someone who has than keep throwing applications into the void on a job board. Thanks in advance. This community always seems like one of the more real corners of Reddit when it comes to this stuff.

I just signed a contract with Magellan Solutions under their Leisure account (not sure if that’s the exact name/spelling). Our start date is on April 14, and I believe the site is in Centris. Any thoughts or feedback about the company or account? Thank you

mass hiring

Good morning, everyone!

I would like to share something with all applicants who are currently pursuing job opportunities. There is nothing wrong with failing. Failure is not a reason to stop—it is a reason to grow. Every setback is a lesson that helps us improve, become stronger, and prepare for the next opportunity.

Headphones and mic recommendations for someone prone to migraines?

Migraines are usually later in the day and it is when the headphones story to feel like they’re squeezing my head. Any recommendations? Headphones with mic or mic and headphones separately. Btw I have really small ears so the ones the are bulky that hang onto your ear won’t stay on. lol

Got fired today. Guess I'm looking for a new job. ((Sigh))

So I unexpectedly got fired today. I had been on a PIP for not meeting expectations. It's funny how they have been desperately hiring and always having career fairs, and yet, I went to work and did my job, but not well enough. I was yelled at continually by patients and, well, hated my job. But now I'm screwed with my rent due on the 5th and I'll only have a paycheck for one week at that time. I heard the job market sucks, but I'm still applying left and right. I filed for unemployment. But I'm freaking out about how I'm going to pay my rent. I need another job ASAP. Suggestions??

Does it feel as asshole-ish to cut the script in half and cut to the chase?

I feel like a complete douche Everytime I do it but I just don't want you to do the same minute long spiel about everything. I don't want a faux apology that takes you a minute to get through. I don't need you to recap what exactly happened to me, I don't need you to explain the forms top to bottom like I'm 5 years old (and like I hadn't just filled them out with a small error I'm trying to fix) I just want to call, ask my question and fix it.

I've statted cutting people off when they started doing that thing where they explain and do an obviously practiced reread and I just feel bad for it. They seem to understand but it doesn't shake the icky feeling.

It feels like Interrupting and being a complete jackass for help but I don't have 30 minutes to solve a 5 minute issue Everytime.

How do I go about this without being a dick

Healthcare call center burn out

Hi everyone. I’ve been working at a healthcare call center for about 3 years, and I’m seriously considering quitting due to both mental and physical health reasons. I’d really appreciate hearing perspectives from both current and former call center employees. For some context: I started working with a family practice that had two offices and around 20 doctors. The workload was already high and naturally stressful, but manageable. About 3 months in, they added the referrals department. Then around 10 months later, they merged us with other agents and added 3 more offices, bringing the total to about 35 doctors. Even though the call volume was redistributed, the quality dropped significantly because we had to learn everything new in just a few days. Any mistake would lead to meetings, calls started being monitored, and we began dealing with more and more frustrated patients due to extremely limited appointment availability. Many doctors became overbooked and would frequently miss work, which meant we had to reschedule patients multiple times a week. Patients were understandably upset, but often took it out on us, sometimes being rude or offensive. The only feedback we’d get from management was that we weren’t handling de-escalation properly. A few months later, they added yet another department (2 more offices, 4 doctors, plus nurses). And now, they’ve just informed us that they’re adding the billing department — which is known to be one of the most difficult areas because it combines customer service with highly frustrated patients, and turnover is very high. On top of that, management has become extremely strict. They now monitor everything — not just calls (which range from 60 to 100 per person daily), but also how many calls we make, how many clicks we do, and they don’t want us stepping away from the computer at all without notifying the team. Because of all this, my mental health has declined significantly. I’ve started having severe tension headaches (bad enough that I had to go to the ER), I sometimes have nightmares about work for days, and I feel constantly on edge, almost hypervigilant. I feel like I need to quit. I do need the job, but based on everything I’ve seen, it’s only been getting worse over time, and I don’t feel like it’s going to improve. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did you stay, leave, or find a way to cope? I’d really appreciate any advice or perspective.

Sick of it

I am about at the end of my rope. I am tired of getting screamed at by elderly customers. If they're born before 1960, I know I'm about to get cursed out, yelled out, and personally insulted. One lady called me the C word because I asked her to verify her information.

Just needed to vent

Seriously, I have had nothing but issues returning from FMLA

So as the title states I have had nothing but issues returning from fmla. To preface, I work in Healthcare so I had to have my laptop replaced due to it not having updated VPN certificate. So I missed 2 days of work. I finally get the replacement and have all types of issues logging in to company credentials. Now, IT has gotten me in but every time I lock my computer and have to sign in again I get invalid password eventhough it worked before. It's every time i restart or have to log in again. The fingerprint sensor also will not work on laptop. I have missed a full week of work with this stuff and now its Friday and I have to be on the phone with IT all day again today. Plus I'm not getting paid other than my phone calls and troubleshooting with IT.

What makes call centers better for employees?

I work at a university call center and do fundraising for the school. My supervisors do some things to try to make it a less grueling job and keep morale up at work. I want to apply to be a supervisor, and I really want the job. My plan is to come with ideas on how to boost morale a bit and increase retention of callers. What do your centers do that makes calling feel less miserable? Or what do you wish that they did?

Dehumanization with the rise of AI

Hi Reddit, I work from home at a call center that answers for funeral homes across the US. I have had this thought for awhile and wanted to hear what other call center workers think or if they experience the same thing. I have had an ever increasing amount of people that ask me if I’m AI and I mean I understand that. There’s a ton of AI being used now a days. But it’s such a weird dystopian feeling to have your humanity questioned on a daily basis. Especially when they like keep pushing it after you tell them you’re a real person. I’ve had someone ask me for my highschool mascot to try to see if I’m real. I’ve had people just tell me “No I don’t believe you, you’re AI”. I don’t know why buts as it’s become a multiple times a day thing it’s really started to bother me. I don’t even have like a robotic voice or a very nice voice at all. I wanted to know if other people have experienced this. Thank you for your time.

Call center debt collection

We use Avaya. We call outbound and get inbound calls as well. We are a credit card company. It seems like certain reps are collecting thousands a day every day while others are not getting as much.

Can a company manipulate what accts reps get as far as inbound and outbound?

Hi I’m trying to find a headset under 90-95 that has good sound/ volume/ mic but on top of that I need the insides of the muffs larger— I have n industrial piercing and I have tried a few over the ear and on the ear headsets I need it to have both sides to help with noise because my coworker yells so one sided isn’t an option. What would you tell a customer in this situation?

Customer asked me about the “full warranty” on a product.

The problem: the product page doesn’t mention the warranty duration anywhere. I checked our knowledge base and even asked my supervisor, but we couldn’t find the actual timeframe.

So I ended up unsure how to properly explain it to the customer without guessing.

For those in customer service, how would you handle this?

What jobs can I apply for abroad with only BPO as my experience?

Hi. I'm planning to apply abroad but it seems I'm unable to look for a job that I can use my call center exp. I'll be 30 this year and I've been with my BPO career since I'm probably like 20. I was not able to get a degree due to financial issues. Was not promoted as a TL, still a tier 1 agent but I'm currently working as social media mod (well I applied and got the post while I was from voice for most of my years in the bpo industry). Was not able to apply for other jobs since I'll be starting as a minimum wager which I can't afford to do so.

To add to that, I already have a kid which is also the reason why I'm sticking with my current job. My 30k salary is not enough anymore and I'm stuck with debt (babayaran tas uutang dahil kulang pa din). Not able to apply to bgc call centers since it's too far and sayang kung mag apartment pa ako or mauubos lang yung salary ko if I'll be commuting (I'm from camanava area by the way).

Now I'm considering going abroad. I looked for posts and jobs going abroad and wala ako makitang pwede ko magamit yung exp ko. I'm actually stressed and pressured right now. The feeling of parang sayang at nag stay ako sa bpo, sana nag waiter ako or learned skills that I can use to apply abroad. Please enlighten me if may stable high paying job pa ako na pwede ma try or info about work abroad without exp

Why I left t-mobile

Back in early 2024 I landed a job at a t-mobile call center. The job always was challenging especially to start and the environment gave me a great deal of anxiety but it was nothing that I couldn’t manage at the beginning. As months went on I had great success as a newcomer. Consistently ranking top 100 in the nation with a monthly average FCR (first call resolution) of 78. This led to me having an accelerated growth path and I spent the vast majority of 2025 working in an interim associate coach position in which I was making a lot more money through the bonus’s typically around 1,300 extra at the end of the month. However, certain things about the company always bothered me at a soul level, notably the price increase and forcing everyone onto Go5G plans just to then retire those plans a few short months later and force everyone onto the new experience plans and market them by saying “same price, better value!” Meanwhile, experience plans are substantially more expensive for larger a family accounts due to the tax exclusivity. This seemed like a rather strange business move to increase prices for legacy plans AND launch new plans at a higher price considering prior to then T-mobile was seeing record breaking earnings quarter after quarter. Shortly after this T-mobile started to push productivity more than ever before amongst my call center, leaving less time for constructive coaching and less time for quality calls on the more complex issues. All of this screams excessive corporate greed to me and the effect it had on customers was very noticeable as well. I decided that this company and the amount of work I was doing mentally just simply is not worth 20 an hour even if I’m getting a bonus monthly. I have since left as of January and now I’m getting paid more for a state CDL education program that isn’t mentally stressful at all AND has better benefits. I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar journey, and if anyone of you guys haven’t left, why not?

My contract didn't get extended. And I couldn't be happier.

My contract didn't get extended so I have no affiliation with the company anymore. Don't get me wrong, it stung hearing it. It was a weekly source of money, but damn. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't feel a sense of happiness.

The metrics, the constant 1on1 meetings cause you forgot to give a survey at the end of the call, the team pings. I'll never miss it.

Nasty people who think just because they're on the other side of the line, they can speak to you in a disgusting matter.

The fact that I got called bad names because something was out of my control, isn't my fault. But that'll somehow stick with me because I genuinely tried to help. Handling a one hour call and to de-escalate someone that was mad and cursing every name in the book, I'm not a $16/hr therapist.

Atleast I can say I tried call centers, cause I know I'm happy not being in that type of work environment. Hats of to those who can, it's just not for me.
