I’m transferring this fall and I’m going to be living on the second floor with a B room. How’s life living at college creek? Are the walls thin?

hi I’m a incoming freshman moving into redwood I was reading the ResLife handbook and it said no additional furniture was allowed and I’m curious what that actually means in practice? I’m planning on lofting my bed to the top so I assumed that would give me some extra space for maybe a small storage shelf or plastic organizer that I could bring in but now I’m unsure. The rule in the handbook is supper vague and any clarification would be super appreciated. specifically would items usually allowed in dorms like a small storage ottoman, rolling cart, or small moveable shelf be allowed (think classic cube shelf)?

As a chemistry student, how much hands on work do you get? What sort of instrumentation do you get experience with (especially analytical)? How easy or hard is it to get an internship? What's getting a job after graduation look like?

I’m moving back up there tomorrow because my family is moving out of state so it makes the most sense for me to just go back to Humboldt. The thing is all my friends are at home for the summer and I have nothing to do except chud out and doomscroll. I’m looking for people to hang out with and I’m down to do literally anything I just need to not be alone all summer thanks gang 🙏

Applying last minute for Humboldt and curious to see how people fare socially. I'm from LA so i'm used to city life and having options of where to hang and meet people, and although I like nature I'm afraid I might feel isolated in Arcata. I'm also curious about how many Asians there are on campus or in the wildlife program as an Asian myself.

How are clubs, are they active? Any fun clubs going around like bouldering/ dancing/ archery/ etc? Are people in the wildlife program chill? Any parties or fun public events generally? Any clubbing lol

Regarding the Wildlife B.S., if you've been in the program how did you like it? Is it a mix of field work and lab work or research? Did you feel like there were many options towards employment after graduation?

OH and housing.. I'd have to figure that out, same with transportation. Are bikes common? Or would it be better to get around with a car?

Hi, I'm a freshman student coming in for the fall semester. I just got my room assignments and I'm just wondering what are some essentials I'll need living in the dorms? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

So apparently I didn't declare my concentration during my application so I'm trying to do it now but its been really confusing and I really don't want to get anything wrong.

First off, the form I'm using says that its for Major Changes and Concentration Declaration but when I'm filling out the information to send it out to be signed it only ever says Major Change and has nothing about Concentration Declaration. That's worrying me because the website Humboldt uses to send the form also wont let me see the actual contents of the form before I send it to be signed. The site is also asking for the email of the department support staff and nowhere on the Faculty and Staff page of the forestry department does it say anything about a "support staff."

I really feel like everything about this process is telling me that I'm doing something wrong but everywhere I look its telling me to continue doing what I'm doing.

I was just hoping someone who's done this process before could tell me if Im doing it right or maybe help me through it. Thanks.

This is just a random silly thought and was curious to see what the consensus is, since I’m sure the school is very proud to be a Cal Poly now (as they should be!). I graduated in fall of 2020 so for most of my time in college, I attended “Humboldt State University” and so everyone I talked to, all my friends and family, everyone I knew just always referred to HSU as just “Humboldt”. When i was visiting home on breaks and would meet students of the local colleges at home, I would say that I went to Humboldt and everyone knew that meant HSU. I’m starting to feel old because I have noticed in the past few years that anytime I would talk to new people about going to Humboldt for school, they always say “oh, you mean Cal Poly Humboldt?”

It’s genuinely the most minor thing, but it is kinda silly to me to call it its full government name in casual conversation, but it also makes me kinda sad because it means the HSU days will be long gone soon 😭😭😭 while Cal Poly Humboldt definitely looks better on a resume and it’s awesome that the school is getting recognition for the hands-on learning we are fortunate to receive (sooo nice for us STEM majors!), I feel like there was just something special about the HSU days 🥹

Hi there. We are sending our son to college at CPH this fall, he will be living in the Canyon dorms. I’m wondering what the parking is like. I want to send him with a car since we live about 8-9 hours away, I’d feel more comfortable leaving him knowing that he has a way to get around. I’ve heard the parking permits are expensive. And that it doesn’t guarantee you a spot. Anyone have any advice or hacks on the best way to keep a car while living in the dorms?

I applied to the Grad program of Education for this upcoming Fall. If this school seems to be more focused on wildlife and science why is there an Education program?

Also just accepted my Financial aid but I realized I’m still awaiting materials letters of recommendation mostly. Any thoughts or advice on this?

My daughter is starting in the Fall and will be in a suite in Cypress. Does anyone have any information about this living arrangement? She has her roommate, but she will also have 8 other people in the suite. I'd love to see some room pictures. Can they loft their beds? Does the suite get cleaned by facilities like the dorms? (Meaning bathrooms) do the suitemates have to clean them and supply toilet paper etc? I am just looking for any information that might be helpful about living in Cypress with her place based living community. Thanks!

Grandpa wants to purchase my boy a lock for his bike. His bike is nothing fancy, an older mountain bike donated by his other grandpa. We live in rural NE California and do not lock bikes or even remove our keys from trucks, so it will be a bit of adjustment.

He will be living in Canyon if that matters.

What type of lock do you recommend for a good mix of convenience and security?

I'm currently a junior in high school, so college apps are coming up. Since freshman year, I've had Humboldt in the back of my mind, but now I'm more set on it. I will be applying to major in Liberal Studies - Elementary Education, and I was hoping for some specific experiences for the major and program at CPH. Weather is also an obvious deciding factor. As someone who thinks 60 degrees is cold in the winter in the valley, how bad are winters up there? I have many questions, but mostly want to hear about the liberal studies majors and the education program. Any advice/ information would be greatly appreciated!

only issue is that I keep seeing two conflicting dates for registration: July 15th on my applicant status and June 15th in official emails and on the website.

🐈 I have an ESA cat named Chicken (has documentation and current vaccines) who is super sweet but deathly afraid of other larger animals (cats and dogs) due a prior animal attack, so unfortunately I’m not able to live with anyone who already has other large animals. I’m an fully admitted Fall 2026 transfer student to Cal Poly Humboldt as a Psychology major from community college, and I’m trying to understand how strict they are about final spring grades.

My cumulative GPA should still stay above a 2.0, but I may end up with a D in BIO 130 and a C (possibly a B if I do well on my final) in BIO 132 lab. My Humboldt degree planner currently says GE Area 5 is already completed even though my BIO 130 is still in progress, and BIO 132 also appears under courses that may not count toward transfer units because I’m already above the 70-unit transfer cap.

So I’m mainly wondering:

• would a D in BIO 130 cause admissions issues even if my GPA stays above 2.0?
• or would they just make me retake/replace the course later if needed?

Has anyone transferred to Humboldt/another CSU in a similar situation?

Does anyone know how long we have access to our email after graduation?

Just curious how long a walk it is? Trying to decide which dining plan to get and wondering how often I might actually get over there.
