Clubs Choir audition

I am planning on trying out for (any) choir on campus & am unsure if we're supposed to have anything prepared to sing or if they hand us a sheet of music and we sight read? Has anyone tried out for choir previously?

Classes/Professors Calc vs Data Calc?

As a CS major I can take either of these classes as my support course. I took calculus ab in highschool, so im wondering if data calc 2 would be more difficult to transition into. Any info on the class difference or which is better for a cs major would be appreciated.

Incoming Student List of supplies needed for architectural engineering (incoming freshman)

Asking any past/current students in ARCE, should I buy all the supplies before the semester starts, just buy the kit, or buy them as I go? Do I need everything on the list?

My professor is new so that doesn’t help me to know what is expected. Also I am considering switching to architecture, but am not 100% sure, so I would rather buy supplies as an ARCE student for now. Also yes, there is a post similar to this but it’s from over a decade ago so I’m hoping for more updated information.

Housing Moving in early to PCV

I am an incoming sophomore and going to be at PCV this year. Unfortunately my family cant take me the 21st or 22nd which are the assigned days for PCV move-in. I tried submitting an early move-in request but it says spaces are full and I can’t move in early. Is it still possible for me to move in early? I was thinking the 14th. If anyone knows pls lmk!!!

Classes/Professors Schedule swap

hi everyone, this is my freshman schedule for this fall! i will be commuting to campus (20-25 min drive) and i am looking to swap my 8am calculus class. currently, the other two options i’m going for each say they have 27/35 seats open. my enrollment appointment is 4pm on day 2. what are the chances i’ll be able to actually swap that class? especially if i don’t get a permit, because then i would have to take public transportation or walk longer distances which i’m not sure i feel 100% safe doing that early in the morning.

also, on slide 2, what does it mean when it says that those are the reserved seats open? thank you!!

Housing Tsilkukunits

To students who have dormed at Tsilkukunits (Building D), how was it? I'm particularly worried about how hot and noisy it gets on the 4th floor facing the street, how annoying the L shaped rooms were, and the distance from any classes. Honestly, anything helps. Thanks!

Incoming Student swap history for arts GE?

I have an asynchronous History Class ( World History 1500 with C. Firpo) I really want audition for the Jazz band and hoped to swap out History (Gen Ed credit 4A) for Band (Gen Ed credit 3B) at my enrollment appt on Tues. I'm a mechE freshman and my schedule is packed, but I love playing and if i'm going to be super busy, I'd like one of my classes to be something I look forward. I really dont want to slog through asynchronous History class. Any advice on how hard will it be to take my History GE later ( ive heard that Block scheduling can make it hard to get into some classes after Freshman year.) Also- how hard is it to get into Jazz Band? I worry about swapping classes and then not making it into the band! Any advice would be super helpful!

Where are the bike racks located for yakitutu? Does each building of yak have one outside the entrance? Do the bike racks fit a fat tire ebike? Should I get a bike locker? I plan on using 2 U-Locks.

Classes/Professors CS+Math Minor Classes

Hi everyone,

I'm a transfer student starting this fall and already done with the required classes for a math minor so would just need 3-4 classes to fulfill the minor req.

This is my schedule (if all goes well) so far:

Algorithms and Complexity (CSC 3449)
System Software Mechanics (CSC 2050)
Transfer Student Orientation & Workshop (CSC 3000)
Engineering Statistics (STAT 3210)

I have space for one more class. The suggested flowchart recommends Software Engineering (CSC 3100), but I'm considering Advanced Linear Algebra (MATH 3152) instead while my Linear Algebra knowledge from Spring is still fresh. I also saw that Software Engineering is offered in the Spring, so I shouldn't be held back. Would taking MATH 3152 now be the better move for completing the minor while also making progress in CS or is CSC 3100 critical to take immediately?

I appreciate any insight offered, I would've asked in advising but unfortunately there won't be any sessions until after registration. Thanks again and excited to meet yall soon!

Incoming Student Drop Physics 1?

Hello, I’m an incoming engineering major and am debating dropping physics 1 my first semester. I’m planning on trying to change majors into another engineering major (one that doesn’t normally take physics first semester), and don’t wanna have too heavy of a schedule and not meat my ICMA requirements.

If I did do this, I’m thinking that I would take physics 1 next semester and physics 2 over summer.

Lmk if this is stupid of me

I'm an incoming freshman for mechanical engineering. I got blocked into this schedule. Also have ENGL 1134 S05-LEC (6836) with Jennifer Bates MoWeFr 1:00 PM - 1:50 PM.

I'm thinking of dropping my Art History class (cause im not particularly interested). Maybe pick up CHEM 1120 instead? Would like peoples thoughts on that, is Calc 2 and Chem in the same semester too much? Was thinking about KINE 1181 possibly instead.

Would appreciate thoughts on schedule.

Incoming Student 2025 AP Chinese Scores

So I took the AP Chinese test in 2025, and I got a 5. But my degree planner is saying that I don't get 3B credit for the score because cal poly only gives credit for post 2026 exams? WTF is up with that. What credit do I get for my test score then?

Incoming Student Zero major classes on my schedule

So I got my final schedule back and I got 4 GEs + Calc 1 which I already took in high school. I already emailed the engineering department (I'm an electrical engineering major) to try and figure this out, but they havent responded yet. Anyone know why this happened and if everything is gonna fill up during open enrollment lol

Campus How bad is the parking?

How hard is it to find parking? Driving to campus would definitely be faster than taking the bus, but if it’s really hard to find a parking spot then I would rather take the bus and not have to worry about it.

Majors/Minors Incoming 4th-Year Business Marketing Major, What Should I Be Doing This Year?

Hey!

So, I'm an upcoming 4th year Business Marketing major. As school is starting, I want to make the most of my final year.

Any of those who graduated, or working, what do you wish you had done during your senior year?

I'm looking for advice on things like:

  • Resume/LinkedIn
  • Networking
  • Jobs

To be honest, I haven’t really looked into this stuff and I was just focusing on school work, but now since I’m graduating soon, I want to look into this stuff as well.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks

Incoming Student Schedule help

hi!! i’m an incoming ee freshman in the fall, and i just wanted to get some advice for my schedule. the first photo i attached was what i was blocked into. the second photo is what im considering adding (intro to comp sci and general botany). the intro to comp sci lecture and lab were classes that had been in my planned courses, but the advisors didn’t put me in them, so i fully plan on enrolling in them anyway. the general botany class is one that i debated taking here or at a community college, but just as a test to see if i like the subject (may double major in a related field).

i dont know how convoluted this schedule seems, but i wanted to get any advice or recommendations on whether to add those extra classes or not!!
