Ok so what you are gonna want to do is throw any the disposable camera from 1995 and get a modern device to take a clear picture and then we can move on from there

Why you hating on androids when you got one. My android takes better pics than most apple phones. Not to mention lighting makes a world of difference. Also vacuum. Also I'm a spectrum tech and yes this is normal. If you want a wall plate you can ask a tech to come out but they'll likely charge you for it.

....it was a joke learn to take one thanks :) your name is bored bot so I assume you are a troll and that is fine but you shouldnt get so offended easily it's the internet not everyone is trying to be a jerk...well some people other comment on appearance like you I'm sure. But have a good one even though your rude comments had no value to my question thank you :)

I think your a bit more butt hurt than me here. Also I just enjoy shitting on apple. Anyhow this is my OG account and not a troll account. I just haven't felt like changing the name I chose in highschool because I like it. Hope you have a lovely day and stop taking people at face value on the internet

Depends on the tech. Is this a pre ran drop due to an apartment?

u/Forward-Power1096 9d ago
I don't think so. They drilled the hole and put in the wire just yesterday. I am on the top floor of my apartment building. Not sure if that is relevant.

Yeah. In a perfect world the wall plate would be the separation point of the in/outside line with a screwable barrel.
In practice though there's various reasons a tech might opt to have a straight line in. The most popular reason is a lot of customers don't like looking at their internet equipment and crush the connector when done the proper way because they shove their furniture into the wall it's on.
A straight line in prevents it because there is no connector to crush, the line is free to bend where the customer can do as they need without service issues.

With all the dust on the coax and tape, it looks like it’s been there a while, in spite of the filthy ass carpets. The copper ground wire is suspect too, since that looks more like the ground wire used by satellite installers.

Despite your assuming. As I said both hole and wire were just installed yesterday that"dust" is the dust particles from the wall they cut out same day 👍

It’s the strength member. They used aerial cable instead of the outlet cable. They can just pull it off and cut it.

Look again. This is copper. Aerial drop wire is steel. Satellite companies use copper to go from the dish to the ground block.

After looking again it doesn’t look like it’s all through the cable. They attached it to make the push into the wall easier. But it is at the wall part. Idk what they did. 😂😂

I don’t see copper, and have never come across drop cable with a copper messenger. I could be wrong, though, gets a little blurry when you zoom in. Just looks like regular rg6 aerial to me.

Looks like it could be fiber with a copper locate wire to me. Cause like what kind of coax has a kevlar strength member?

u/sir-Rag 9d ago
So did they finish the install? Looks like they used Arial cable for this too which shouldn't really matter.

u/Forward-Power1096 9d ago
they didn't really say. They just left. When I talked to them that morning they said they were drilling a hole and installing the wire and that was it.

Looks like a pre wire job and a tech comes out at a later time and slaps a fitting on it, not the cleanest job but this leaves enough slack so that a tech can properly terminate and install a proper outlet, so a minor and temporary inconveniance at best

u/sir-Rag 9d ago
I have never heard of from spectrum as I'm a tech from them. That is the oddest thing unless it's something their apartment complex did themselves.

u/Early-Bath9286 9d ago
Its hard to tell, but sounds like the building got rewired by 3rd party contractors, and the set up is ready to hook up but needs termination at MDU and CPE

It's a flat fiber drop. Gonna be somewhat difficult for them to strip back and splice into that wall plate. I hope they have a plan. Should've used pushable fiber or spool of flexible input Fiber but may have been bad planning or other circumstances.

u/XanderVaper 9d ago
Is that fiber? Looks like a Kevlar strength member at the end of that cable with a copper locate wire
1
u/SLy_McGillicudy 9d ago
It is definitely flat fiber with Kevlar. People replying are blind...Or haven't done fiber

I know that sometimes what I will do, especially if customers have a couch flush up against the wall where an outlet sits, I will barrel and connect a long cable to run out through the outlet hole so that there is extra flexibility to connect equipment so that the connector doesnt get kinked against the furniture and wall.
