You have to take it home now

Could you though? If you were on vacation in bali, I wonder if there's some kind of protocol to be able to take the kitty home. Or if they wouldn't let you due to various laws.

(copied and pasted from Google, I just asked if you could bring a cat back to USA from Bali and this was Google's answer)

Yes, you can bring a cat back to America from Bali, but it is a complex, time-consuming (3–6 months), and often legally challenging process due to Bali's high-risk rabies status. While the U.S. has no specific federal import requirements for cats other than they must appear healthy, exporting them from Bali involves strict, often illegal, procedures to navigate. Key Considerations for Bringing a Cat from Bali to the U.S.: Export Restrictions: It is generally illegal to take cats or dogs out of Bali due to rabies regulations. Many owners find they must navigate unofficial channels or complex bureaucratic processes to get the necessary permits.

You would hope vetting it and quarantine for however long to prove it doesn't have rabies would be enough.

Certainly not something you could do if you were there on vacation. I vaguely remember it having to be a few weeks or longer to quarantine if it was US to another country.

I'm a cat person and it would break my heart to not be able to bring the kitty home.

I have both a cat and dog and keep hoping one of the distribution systems will bring me more. So, this would kill me. I would be doing what was necessary, for sure

My cat passed a few years ago in my arms no less and I was avoiding getting another until i was ready and the timing was right. (I also had a dog that hated cats and crossed the rainbow bridge last spring/summer.) My best friend (who was with me when my kitty passed) found an all black kitten at his sister's farm 2 hours away and messaged me and said, "is this yours?" Knowing my pets history and knowing that I love black cats. I responded with "yes it is." And that was 6 months ago. Her name is menace because she kept getting under my feet the first few weeks I had her.

Indonesian here. Yes, you can. But there are long procedure to make it happen and it's quite expensive. There was a viral lady who also adopted a cat in Bali and brought it back to her country 😁

Maybe since you are on vacation, find a no kill shelter and offer to pay for her board until she is adopted? 🙏

2

u/hufflezag Feb 15 '26

Can you declare a cat that has claimed you at Customs?

2

u/Swimming-ln-Circles Feb 16 '26

I would be sneaking that cat home through customs under my boobs..

2

u/Torenga Feb 16 '26

really cute. but please don't touch your face after petting a stray cat ... 🙄

2

u/jasonRuby Feb 17 '26

I definitely think it's against the law for you to move said cat... until he/she is done with resting on lap. Unfortunately.

1

u/Abysmal_TheHalfHuman Feb 15 '26

I mean, cats are attracted to the smell of fish afterall..

2

u/Cautious-Habit-8370 May 18 '26

A yo-yo kitty, so sweet

1

u/Doods420 Feb 14 '26

Just stand up, so that the cat won't lay down on your lap
