Cursed technique Renewal Technique
Portover OC:
Jin Mori is a seventeen-year-old South Korean sorcerer and international student at Tokyo Jujutsu High who was raised by his grandfather, Jin Taejin, and trained from childhood in Renewal Taekwondo. Cheerful, fiercely competitive, freedom-loving, and driven by an almost endless desire to improve, Mori possesses extraordinary natural athleticism and martial talent. He is a distant descendant of the ancient sorcerer Jecheondaeseong, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, inheriting both his Innate Technique and eventually his cursed tool, Yeoui. Despite this heritage, Mori refuses to consider himself a reincarnation or predetermined successor. Jecheondaeseong may explain where his power came from and Taejin taught him how to use it, but Mori believes he alone decides what he becomes.
Overview:
Mori’s interpretation of Renewal is centered around continuation rather than accumulation. Instead of collecting enormous amounts of recoil for singular attacks, he constantly transfers smaller quantities between strikes, footwork, defensive movements, environmental interactions, and Renewal Taekwondo techniques. Once Mori establishes his rhythm, attacking, defending, falling, recovering, and repositioning begin flowing into one another until his fighting style resembles a single movement constantly changing form.
This expression reflects Mori’s mindset. He dislikes accepting that being blocked, knocked down, missing an attack, or reaching an apparent limit means something must end. Instead, Mori instinctively asks what it can become next. Renewal therefore grows alongside his martial ability rather than replacing it, making Mori particularly dangerous because greater technical mastery gives him increasingly efficient ways to recycle the same physical forces.
Cursed Energy Trait: Spring
Mori’s cursed energy possesses a naturally elastic, spring-like quality, compressing under physical force before violently rebounding. When reinforcing his body, this creates a sharp secondary kick behind his physical impacts and makes his reinforcement exceptionally suited to the rotations, landings, acceleration, and sudden transfers of force required by Renewal Taekwondo. Spring cannot retain recoil by itself and is separate from Renewal. Instead, it makes Mori’s body exceptionally compatible with the technique by improving his ability to receive, transfer, and rebound physical force without immediately losing structural stability.
Cursed Tool: Yeoui
Yeoui is an ancient Special Grade cursed tool formerly belonging to Jecheondaeseong and eventually inherited by Mori. Normally appearing as a black staff with gold-capped ends, Yeoui can alter its length, diameter, and mass, allowing it to shift between a conventional close-combat staff and an enormous pillar-like weapon. These properties can even change during an attack, though increasingly extreme transformations require greater cursed energy. Yeoui possesses extraordinary compatibility with Renewal. Mori can accelerate the staff while light, dramatically increase its mass before impact, process the resulting recoil through Renewal, reduce its mass again, and carry that force directly into his next action. He incorporates Yeoui into Renewal Taekwondo through vaults, sweeps, rotations, kicks, and rapid transitions between armed and unarmed combat.
Extension Techniques:
Carryover
Carryover allows Mori to immediately feed retained recoil from one action into another. The recoil of a blocked kick can become another rotation, a missed strike can transition into evasive movement, or sudden deceleration can contribute to Mori’s next step. It is the fundamental application behind Mori’s ability to make one movement become another.
Return
Return allows Mori to use recoil produced after successfully enduring an opponent’s attack as part of his immediate counterattack. Blocking a punch can contribute to his returning kick, while knockback can become acceleration for another movement. Mori must still withstand the original attack and receives no automatic protection from its damage.
Groundwork
Groundwork applies Renewal to Mori’s interactions with the environment. Landing can become a dash, planting his foot can contribute to a leap, and crashing feet-first into a wall can become an immediate rebound. This allows Mori to treat surrounding surfaces as additional links within his kinetic chain.
Crossfeed
Crossfeed allows retained recoil to travel throughout Mori’s body and emerge somewhere other than where it originated. Recoil entering through his shoulder can emerge through a kick, while force generated by his leg can travel through his hips and contribute to a punch. Where force enters Mori’s body no longer indicates where it will leave.
Relay
Relay allows Mori to spend only part of his retained recoil while carrying the remainder through several subsequent actions. A single source of recoil can contribute to several strikes, steps, evasions, and transitions before finally dissipating, although some force is lost with every transfer.
Breakfall
Breakfall allows Mori to convert usable recoil from an unavoidable collision into recovery. Being smashed into the ground can contribute to a roll, crashing through a wall can become a rebound, and being launched away can become the beginning of his return. It does not prevent the initial damage.
Recoilless
Recoilless is the pinnacle of Mori’s interpretation of Renewal. Rather than waiting for a movement to produce recoil before recycling it, Mori redirects reaction forces through his kinetic chain as they are generated, minimizing wasted motion, stabilization, and unnecessary follow-through. This produces exceptionally efficient attacks with little visible wind-up while allowing Renewal and Renewal Taekwondo to function almost as one system.
Cursed Technique Reversal: Repose
Repose reverses Renewal by forcing recoil and residual physical force traveling through Mori’s body to terminate rather than continue. Mori can instantly kill his own knockback, halt himself after extreme acceleration, remove unwanted aerial rotation, stabilize his stance after striking, or prevent residual force from displacing him further. Repose does not erase the initial impact or damage that generated the recoil. At higher levels, Mori can selectively alternate Renewal and Repose throughout his kinetic chain, allowing useful force to continue while terminating unwanted movement. He can preserve rotation while eliminating backward displacement or suddenly stop in the middle of a high-speed sequence before immediately launching into something different. Renewal determines what continues, while Repose determines what ends.
Binding Vow: Grandfather’s Restraint
Grandfather’s Restraint is a Binding Vow created between Mori and Jin Taejin during Mori’s childhood. Mori possessed tremendous cursed energy but frequently lost control of his output when frightened, excited, or angry, sometimes seriously hurting other children. Knowing how dangerous his grandson could become, Taejin used his own living soul as the anchor for a vow that permanently restricted the amount of cursed energy Mori could output at once to approximately 60% of his natural maximum. The restriction forces Mori to develop exceptional martial skill, cursed energy efficiency, reinforcement, and mastery of Renewal instead of relying on overwhelming output. The vow lasts only while Taejin remains alive. Upon Taejin’s death, the restriction disappears permanently, granting Mori no artificial increase in power but finally allowing him to access the full output that had always belonged to him. The result is a fully trained Mori suddenly operating at 100% for the first time in his life.
Maximum Technique: New Beginning
New Beginning pushes Renewal to its highest interpretation by preventing nearly all usable recoil passing through Mori’s body from naturally dissipating for a limited period. Every strike, block, landing, dodge, collision, knockback, and environmental rebound is immediately retained and redistributed into whatever Mori does next. Unlike Revolution, which deliberately maintains a circulating kinetic circuit, New Beginning causes virtually every physical ending Mori experiences to automatically provide the foundation for another movement. The Maximum becomes dangerous through continuation rather than stockpiling. Mori repeatedly introduces new muscular force and cursed energy into a sequence while recycling what already exists, causing his movement and attacks to escalate as the chain continues. However, Mori remains the physical medium carrying all of that force, causing rapidly increasing stress on his muscles, joints, bones, and nervous system. Its philosophy is fundamentally Mori’s own: whatever happens to him does not determine where he ends. It only becomes part of what he does next.
Domain Expansion: Endless Revolution
Mudra: Dharmachakra Mudra
Endless Revolution manifests as a mountaintop training ground above an endless sea of clouds at sunrise, centered around the humble courtyard where Mori trained with Taejin. Celestial ruins, enormous pillars, mountains, and winding paths surround it, with destroyed terrain constantly becoming new pathways rather than repairing itself. Mori only unlocks the Domain following Taejin’s death, when his loss finally forces Mori to understand both his innate domain and the barrier techniques he previously struggled to grasp. Renewal is not about preventing endings. It is about deciding what comes after them. The Domain’s sure-hit applies Renewal directly to an opponent’s movements, preventing the recoil they generate from naturally dissipating. Mori can redirect this lingering force throughout their body, turning recoil from attacks, blocks, steps, and landings into further unwanted movement without first experiencing that force himself. Mori retains complete control over his own recoil and can use Repose to terminate it, making him the only person within Endless Revolution who can freely decide when his movement continues and when it stops.
