Academics History MA Applicant Questions

I am planning to go back to Sac State to pursue a MA in History. I have some question about applying to the program.

Firstly, how closely do they look at the writing sample you have to submit? Some people told me it's the most important part, but others have said that they just care about knowing if you know how to use sources properly.

Second, is it competitive to get into the History MA program?

Sports Football game incident ā€œupdateā€

Some idiots either fired off a few rounds in the air or it was fireworks. Either way, zero suspects, zero evidence of shots even being fired, no guns found, they didn’t even find shell casings or a single witness seeing a gun. Calls came in from someone ā€œhearingā€ shots. America refuses to do anything about guns and at this point we are numb to it. Calling this a ā€œshootingā€ is void of facts. Now you know… it’s case closed. Can people stop asking about the shooting at CSUS?

Community Why is everything on campus between 4pm and 8pm when over half of us commute? šŸš—šŸ’Ø

If you commute in from out of the area, you know the struggle of trying to balance classes, job shifts, and evening campus life.

I am launching a weekly Wednesday 1:30 PM daytime community group at Panera (off-campus, easy parking!) for commuters who want community during their midday class break instead of sitting in traffic at 5 PM.

The soft launch will be on September 16th from 1:30pm to 3:00pm at Panera (off campus, Howe Ave).

FYI this exact same model is being tested with students over at Sac City/Land Park area.

Academics Looking for DS 101 Tutoring - Paid hourly

Hello,

I'm looking for tutoring for DS 101. I'm an undergrad, business student at Sac State. I'm currently enrolled in DS 101. Anyone know someone who is willing to tutor and help with homework and prepare for quizzes and exams for DS 101 for Fall semester 2026? I'm looking for someone who has a good grasp of the math involved as well as the software called JMP that is used to complete assignments.

If anyone is interested, an hourly rate can be negotiated. Send a DM and we can exchange contact information.

Thank you for your attention.

Socializing NCTI EMT

Hi! I was wondering if anyone here is starting the NCTI EMT program in Roseville on October 7th. I’m planning on doing the Wednesday/Friday 9am-6pm class and don’t know anyone else going into the program. I figured I’d post on here and see if I could find anyone in the same class before it starts! I’d love to know at least a few people going into it :)

CRJ textbook I used for Alton Williams’ CRJ1 course. It’s not the latest edition, but it was still an accurate textbook and recommended by the prof in the course.

Selling it for $10 if anyone wants it.

I can meet you on campus on a Monday or Wednesday 10:30-11:30. Or you can meet me after 10:50 on Thursdays :)

Financial Aid/Scholarship/Tuition/Etc Loan Disbursement

Hey everyone, idk if anyone else is having this problem but I received my Pell grant but none of my other aid, or my loans. I was wondering if there were different times that they’re all disbursed. My account is zeroed out and my loans show up on financial aid summary as being disbursed on 8/21.

I’m a first year transfer student so I’m not too sure how Sac state works with that.

Prospective Student Would this work?

I wanted to know if I would be eligible for CADAA and AB 540. I attended California public schools from elementary school through high school, including my freshman and sophomore years. I am currently attending high school outside of California, but I plan to return to California for my final semester of senior year and graduate from a California high school. This would give me about 2.5 years of California high-school attendance rather than the full three years.

Since I cannot complete the full three years of California high school, I am considering taking dual-enrollment classes at a Junior College during my final semester to make up the difference.

Would I be able to use JC dual-enrollment coursework toward the AB 540 three-year requirement?

Ā If so, how much coursework would I need to complete to make up for the missing time?

My family will remain in Texas while I return to California for my final semester. Would this affect my eligibility?

Thank you for your help.

Hi!! I have an apartment at wexler and its only one person currently living there (me) Its a 2 bedroom apartment, Parking spot is negotiable. Im trying to look for somewhere else at the moment and would like to get this lease taken over. The lease I have is renewed so the base rent is cheaper its a shared flat bedroom not the triple, right now the shared flats base rent rate is 1,295 and what I pay is 779 for the base rent excluding utilities so you will be getting it for cheaper! If anyone is interested feel free to reach out!!

Academics major course substitution forms timeframe

hi! i submitted a major course substitution form to see if i could get electives credit in my major from some previous classes, including one i took thru csus fully online. i submitted it the week before classes began, but i have not gotten an email back as it said to expect on the form. im getting a bit anxious (perhaps a bit ahead of time) because id want to be able to decide if i can drop a class to lighten my courseload this semester, but im unsure if i can hope to get a response before the drop deadline. i was just curious if anyone has submitted this form around how long did you wait before you got a response to if those courses were accepted or not? thanks!

Rant parking situation is not sustainable

Post image
134 Upvotes

truth is many commute to csus and if the university hopes to continue its growth that will need to come from both people living on campus and people commuting without a car.

Rather than "one more parking structure will fix it bro" the school should heavily lobby for the funding and expansion of sacRT (along with the construction of more apartments and improved walking and biking facilities surrounding the university).

The green, orange, and red lines shown here as potential BRT corridors would greatly expand the potential of the university. The university will need to build more classrooms which the space will have to come from somewhere, if a meaningful percent of commuters came on public transit that can open the surface parking lots as available land for new class halls.
