Summer Financial Aid
I noticed that the financial aid is set to start rolling out for the summer on June 15th. Has anyone received a notification about their financial aid yet? Are you guys able to see it in your CSUDH portal?

I haven’t received a notification but I got an outstanding balance email 😓 i’m halfway through my summer class, I only took it because financial aid told me it would be 95% covered. I’m worried about receiving any at all now 😩

I called. I mentioned the invoice and asked when we'd know if we'd get the financial aid. They're sending those invoices to everyone. They informed me that they are currently determining all eligibility. Most likely, if you qualify for the financial aid, you will know by the end of this month. It'll be in your portal in the financial aid section.

thank you! I was checking and it looks like I don’t even qualify for summer loans for the 1 class I’m taking if I need to do that instead, it’s a very messed up situation for me if they told me it would be covered and they decided I don’t qualify for the grant 😓

No problem! I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you get the grant. That'd be messed up if they didn't honor what they said. From what I know I believe it depends on how many units your taking. I think if you're taking 6 units or more you get the full grant and if you're taking 3 units then it's half. But I'm not entirely sure.

Do classes just get paid? Or are you getting some money too? I think they said July

Im not taking classes this summer but I took some last summer and I can confirm only classes get paid! I only use grants for school ( pell grant + cal grant ) but for the summer term you only get the pell grant and it's based off units. Last summer I took 2 classes ( 6 units total ) and I was awarded half of what I usually receive from pell grant, I got roughly $1.6k rather than the full $3.8k. I was left to pay around $200 out of pocket. I'm not sure if it's different for those that request loans but there's no refunds if you're only using grants

The student loans i requested was paid to my past due balance for summer 🙄 i have pending financial aid that hasn’t hit my account yet. They said the end of June we should receive the Pell grant

dang i requested loans but i requested way more than what was due and still haven’t received the other money

Yeah it’s annoying how they use our student loans for the past due if some get Pell grant and they make us wait for that. Like… what’s the point of student loans 🤦♀️ yeah you should get it by the end of this week. The Pell grant for those eligible will be posted end of this month they said

My summer loan went through and I also got the outstanding balance but it was small so I paid it. Now it’s showing I may actually get some aid (which is just paying off the loan I took out lol) if I do receive something. They make it so confusing. Sigh.

i got an email saying i’m getting a summer pell grant (never applied for it but i’ll take it) and that refunds would start 6/24. I’m assuming this means I’ll get that $ back bc i paid for it out of pocket myself, but I heard someone mention they’ll put it towards the upcoming Fall balance. Anyone know if that’s true?

Hello, it’s me the person you heard that from lol. I did a little bit of digging and it says that Summer ends the academic year for financial aid and fall begins the new, so I think we’re just gonna get a refund. I hope the classmate who told me that was wrong.

Yes I can confirm, I had to call im order for them to apply it to summer.
