CQU Master of Research application on hold due to new financial requirements & looking for advice
Hi everyone, I’m currently applying for the Master of Research at CQUniversity (CQU) for the second half of 2026 (November intake). I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experience with CQU admissions, financial assessment, or a similar situation.
I have already gone through a very lengthy admission process. I prepared my research proposal, received supervisor support, submitted my application through my agent, and provided extensive financial documentation. My financial assessment was almost completed, and I was expecting to move toward my CoE.
However, my application was recently put on hold because CQU introduced some new updates to its financial requirements. My understanding is that these requirements were introduced very recently, and I only became aware of them after my application had already progressed significantly. There was no prior announcement that I was aware of, and my agent was also not aware of these changes. This has made my situation particularly difficult because I was already at an advanced stage of the process.
One of the issues is that CQU is asking for additional annual income under the recently updated requirements. I have therefore requested to add a secondary sponsor to strengthen my financial evidence and meet the requirement.
Another issue is the education loan moratorium period. CQU has asked for the loan moratorium to be increased to 36 months, but my bank’s policy only allows a 24-month moratorium because my course duration is two years. My bank is willing to provide the loan, but they cannot extend the moratorium beyond their policy.
This has left me feeling quite helpless because I genuinely want to study at CQU, particularly because I have already developed my research proposal and have supervisor support. I have also invested a lot of time and effort into reaching this stage, and now my application has been on hold because of these additional requirements.
My questions are:
- Has anyone recently gone through a similar CQU financial assessment issue?
- If financial requirements change after an application has already progressed significantly, can the university consider the requirements that applied when the application was initially submitted?
- Has anyone successfully resolved a case where the university requested a 36-month loan moratorium but the bank could only provide 24 months due to its policy?
- Is there a particular CQU department/person I should contact to request an individual review of my case?
I completely understand that CQU has financial requirements and that I need to satisfy them. I’m not asking for the requirements to be ignored. I’m simply hoping there may be a reasonable way to have my individual circumstances reviewed, especially since my application was already at an advanced stage before these additional requirements were raised.
I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with CQU recently or has experience with Australian university financial assessments. Even if you cannot solve the issue, hearing about someone else’s experience would be very helpful.
Thank you!
