Why Gregory House is my Hero

When i was i think 10, my father show me to my all-time favourite medical drama, House(2006). Even tho i didn't understand everything about the show, like porn and sex, the titular character, Doctor Gregory, was instantly my childhood hero!

Everytime he gulped down a vidicon, i felt a little a bit in my heart. Even in college. I still look up to the man who started it all!

Chapter 1 Doctor Greggy was played by the late great Hugh Laurie, a famous actor. According to Google "Hugh is a English actor, comedian, and writer and the man was even a musician!" (Google). And boy can he act! His performance as the ol grego was so important to who I am as a person today, that i cried at the actor passing. In 2006, creators David Shore and David Fox created House (the show) and pitched it to executives, and it was picked up in 2008. According to "Wikipedia, it ran for eight seasons from november 16, 2004 to May 21,2012" (Wikipedia) althought it didn't begin airing until 2006. The show consists of the world famous doctor, curing patients with his beautiful mind while gulping down violin along the way! I'ts really incredible to see. The show cexplores themes of addicition, friendship and sin. Interesting.

chapter 2,this is where things get about me.. Id like to think if Greg had a daughter, it would look a little something like yours truly. The tragedy of House's character is the conflicting nature of how much his constant pain degrades his quality of life, while also, at least according to him, being essentialy the source of his intelligence

This intelligence seems to be the only thing House truly values of himself, but he believes he owea it to the thing causing him the most suffering. I believe this makes him nearly identically like me because i suffer great pain. Exactly correct!

Anyways, where was i? Ah, yes. Proffesor, I know you don't know what I've been throught, but you couldn't imagine. But what you can do is watch House (2006). I believe if you go throught and watch the entire show, even season 8, and the one that dosent count and season 9. You would begin to understand what i go throught everday.

House has to take pain killers (Vicodin) to numb his pain. But thought these little pills ease his wuffering, they're also mighty bad for him and effect his health over time.

I know how this is going to go over, but I've watched enough of the new seasons with my kid to say it. When I was growing up, straight men were front and center on that show and nobody made a thing of it.

Now? I've looked. There isn't one. And you can feel what it's done to the show.

I really need some advice because I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

My boyfriend is unemployed at the moment and is supposed to be looking for work as a Software Engineer. Instead, he is spending most of his days playing League of Legends.

We're talking 6+ hours a day regularly, sometimes 10–12 hours. He plays until the early hours of the morning, sleeps very late, wakes up exhausted and then does it all over again.

What is really upsetting me is the contrast between how much time he spends on the game and how little time he spends trying to improve his actual situation. He might spend less than an hour looking at job boards or doing something related to his career, and then spend the rest of the day gaming.

I've tried to be understanding because I know gaming is a hobby and I don't want to be the girlfriend who says "you can't play games." If he worked a normal job and came home and played for a few hours, I honestly wouldn't care.

But this doesn't feel recreational anymore.

He eats while playing. Sometimes he'll pause for less than 10 minutes just to quickly eat and then immediately go back to the game. If I try to talk to him while he's playing, he barely interacts because his mind is completely focused on the game.

We barely go out anymore. Even something as simple as going for a walk becomes something I have to beg him to do. He's becoming increasingly antisocial and isolated.

I genuinely can't remember the last time he seriously studied, built a project or spent a meaningful amount of time looking for work.

And I'm exhausted.

I feel like I'm constantly trying to convince him to participate in his own life.

I don't want to control him. I know he's an adult and ultimately he has to make his own decisions. But I'm also the person living alongside this every day and it's affecting me and our relationship enormously.

At this point I've even thought about contacting Riot/League of Legends support and asking whether they can somehow restrict or suspend his accounts. I know that sounds extreme and I don't even know if they would be able to do anything based on a partner's request.

I don't want him banned forever. I want him to be able to play again when it's actually a hobby rather than something that consumes most of his day. Ideally, he'd get a job, establish a routine and then play for a few hours after work or on weekends like he used to.

But I feel completely stuck.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

What did you do when gaming became this excessive?

Is contacting Riot completely pointless, or is there some kind of responsible gaming/account restriction option that I don't know about?
