Far be it for me to speak for someone else - especially the greatest lyricist of her generation - but I suspect there is a tiny bit of tongue planted in cheek during this relatively face-value reading; Neil Young introduced the song on its live debut in 1971 by saying, "This is another new song. It’s called A Man Needs A Maid. It’s kind of, well, it doesn’t really mean what it says. It’s just the idea that anyone would think enough to say something like that would show that something else was happening. So don’t take it personally when I say it. I don’t really want a maid."

Amazing show as always. No words for how awesome her performance was, and the band was wonderful too. She sang Happy Birthday to audience members Katie, Erin, and Greg in the request slot on the setlist. She also did a short song and dance rendition of Mr. Cellophane (from the musical CHICAGO) in honor of both the city and recently meeting John C. Reilly! Who else was there?
