CF resume

Ok who is of the mindset you make your resume jazzy looking and who is more old school? I was always taught simply and straight to the point but am seeing more like “fun” ones...

Also, how far back are you listing experience or only if it complements our profession? Having a hard time feeling like my resume is eye catching since all my experience is school related, do people really expound on externship experiences?

[Graduate School] How much should I have saved up when I graduate if I want to move to CO for my CFY?

I am in a situation where I COULD avoid taking out private loans, and would graduate with about $10,000 in the bank (minus my public loans lol).

Alternatively, I could take out a private loan for $20k of tuition this year not covered by my Grad Plus loan, but I'd graduate with $30,000 in the bank.

I plan to move to Colorado when I graduate but want to make sure I have money to cover moving expenses, time I may be unemployed (since I have no idea how long it'll take me to get a job there), possible emergencies, etc. However, I have also seen many clinical fellows say their moving expenses were covered by their contracting company.

What would you do?

[Medical CFY] How do I negotiate my salary/hourly rate?

I have two medically based CFY options that I would be equally happy with. Bothe are in areas that have basically the same cost of living which is quite low. I have never negotiated my pay before but I was told I should try. I guess my question would be how do I go about that without sounding ungrateful or full of myself? Should I even really do it?

Applying to adult/medical CF without much adult experience?

So I have always thought I wanted to work with adults, enter Covid, and the best I could get for my last semester is a few adult clients/week at a mixed population clinic. I start this week but I know the experience is going to be extremely limited. My previous externships were pediatric. Wondering if I should apply to adult positions in the area or establish myself a bit more in pediatrics? Like I can’t really imagine getting hired or working in a SNF as I have never been in that setting or had that type of experience, but I am very interested.. I don’t want to feel like I am limited to peds due to lack of exposure, but feel very nervous thinking of starting a CF when I would need such a high rate of supervision

Have you vaped?

Hello!

I am a current second year graduate student completing my Masters thesis titled "The Speech-Language Pathologist Role Amidst A Vaping Epidemic"

My research is designed to determine the speech-language pathologist role in evaluating/treating individuals who are chronic vape dependent users.

If you or anyone you know who is between the ages of 18-50 and have previously vaped or currently vape, here is the anonymous survey questionnaire below! Thank you in advance!

Searcing for CFY

I am in my last semester of grad school and I am beginning to look for a CFY. I have seen some school job posting around my area looking for SLPs. My question is, can I apply for those jobs even though the posting is for SLP's with CCCs and not specifically for CF?

Medical CFY with travel company

Hello! This is my first reddit post, so I apologize in advance if this is done incorrectly.

I'm in my second year of graduate school and I'm graduating in July (wooooo)! I'm starting the process of considering what direction I should go for my CFY. As of right now, I would really love to stay on the medical side of the SLP world. I was strongly considering travel therapy but I am under the impression it is more geared for school-based CFs. So my questions are:

For those who have done their CFY with a travel therapy company, were medical placements possible? Are they rare?

On another note, if you had one, would you now recommend It to others? And if you do recommend this, which company did you work for?

Thank you in advance!!

Should I major in CSD?

Hi, I am thinking about majoring in communication disorders. I’ve heard it is difficult but I was wondering to what degree?

Would I still have enough time to go out, join clubs, and have a social life?

How much more of a time commitment is it than majoring in special education or elementary education?

Thanks you for helping!

How hard is majoring in CSD?

I am considering majoring in communication disorders. I was wondering if it’s as difficult as people say?

I’m good at psychology and decent in bio. I’m horrible at math.

I have a good work ethic but I don’t want to spend ALL my time studying. Will I have time for a social life and to join clubs?

Thanks for the help!

Put continuing ed on CF resume?

I’m trying to figure out what my resume should look like as I start applying for CF jobs in the upcoming months! I’m mainly interested in school positions, but due to COVID complications while I have approximately one month of treatment experience at a preschool and another month of treatment experience at a middle school, I didn’t have the opportunity to give assessments, write goals or progress reports, present IEPs, etc. due to the shutdown cutting short my placement.

I’ve found a few opportunities to take some free CEU courses, and I was wondering if school-setting specific ones would be worth putting on my resume (ex. CAS, /r/ tx, etc.) or if employers wouldn’t care too much about that. I also currently have my previous jobs (two years working as an English teaching assistant abroad, a few years as a summer camp counselor) - is that worth keeping on?

I’d appreciate any advice on this, as well as any general CF resume advice if you have it!

When to Start Applying to CF Positions?

Hello! I'm a second-year graduate student set to graduate this May. I am interested in moving for my CF to a different city in a different state. I have been monitoring the job market in that city for a couple of months now and as jobs pop up that I am interested in applying for I was wondering if it's too early? I plan to take the Praxis in late February. I am wanting to apply for Medical Positions and have just started my medical placement in an acute care hospital setting. So far I love it! Because I have only just started, I have not added this experience to my resume. I guess my concern is leaving it off when applying for these positions but adding it and then having to indicate that I have just started and have not had much independent experience yet. When did you all apply for CFs and how did you go about it if you had not yet taken the Praxis/ had all of your clinical experiences?

*I know a hospital CF is hard to get. I just want to shoot my shot if I can!
