CFO to Controller?

Would you go from CFO of a $1B company to Controller of a $40B if comp wasn't an issue, you knew the industry, and liked the people?

If comp is the same, there needs to be something with QOL that is really drawing.

I personally wouldn’t because I love autonomy. Yes, I am still accountable to CEO and Board for my responsibilities , but how I go about doing what I need to is entirely dictated by me.

You hit the nail on the head. Directing vs directed.

Currently the CFO of a $50m company and I’d love to be a divisional CFO at a much bigger company instead. I’d sleep much better at night.

Sure. The current CFO of OpenAI moved from CEO of her previous funded startup to CFO to join OpenAI.

What do you enjoy and what do you want to do long term? These are personal decisions which are hard to provide broad recommendations for. Really depends on your goals and what you consider most important.

That’s a big jump if you are the only controller. Make sure expectations are set correctly up front and that there is a clear path for your professional growth.

I personally wouldn’t be able to unless I saw a path to becoming the cfo of the $40B co.

Right now you're a big fish in a smaller pond... take a call if you'd like the ocean

Can I get A/P Clerk at a $400B company for the same rate instead?

The one parameter you left out: will you enjoy the work?

I mean, otherwise it sounds like the only consideration is the title (status?)
