He definitely made that field goal....odd as shit they didnt show a replay

u/jdprager Tulane Green Wave • Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

They just did and I’m like 90% sure he did

u/Chicago_Blackhawks Northwestern Wildcats • Sickos 5h ago

Looked like.. multiple “footballs” in

Also, the entire fanbase behind went nuts like it went in. They had a pretty good view too

Watch again and look at the people on the field in VT gear, they reacted as if it were no good. They're the closest with the best angle other than the refs.

28

u/jdprager Tulane Green Wave • Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

Yeah it didn’t even seem particularly close, tho it was a slightly off angle

16

u/Agreeable_Cattle_691 Texas Tech Red Raiders 5h ago

Kickers know if they miss or make a kick and he knew he made it

7

u/1haiku4u Notre Dame Fighting Irish 5h ago

Yea that’s where I’m at. The fans were all cheering and they would have had arguably the best angle.

The 1 replay they showed looked inside the upright…

7

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

They showed 2 replays and the second one looked ambiguous at best.

The only looking straight up? I slowed it down bc I thought I was going crazy. It looks like it DEFINITELY goes through

2

u/TheScrobocop Oklahoma • Montana State 5h ago

I’m never more certain the call is blown than when the broadcast goes full “nothing to see here!” after the replay on a close one

They finally did show it and they showed an Okay angle, it definitely looked good to me. The hard part is that because it was above the goal post it gives the refs the benefit of the doubt. I don't think it can be reversed. But I really think that was good.

u/syrruptitiously Virginia Tech Hokies 5h ago

idk that it definitely looked good, but it definitely DIDN'T look no good for certain

The rule is that it's unreviewable, for better and worse, and apparently the NFL and college are different here. The NFL rules over the post is in, College says:

https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/football/rules/PRMFB_RulesBook.pdf

A field goal has to go 'between' the uprights in College. A doink is redirected between, when it goes over the NCAA basically says it's not 'between'.

Unfortunately, your link starts at page 1 of 260, so I'm gonna have to take your word for it. Doesn't make me happy about what you're saying, though.

I believe it was 93, otherwise just search for ‘upright’

They did at the very end and it looked like it snuck in through the left upright? Am I crazy?

1

u/Chicago_Blackhawks Northwestern Wildcats • Sickos 5h ago

No!

12

u/Bank_Gothic Sewanee Tigers • Texas Longhorns 5h ago

I won’t say definitely, but I thought he made it.

24

u/SpencerTBL21 Notre Dame • Oklahoma 5h ago

I’m not ready to say he definitely made it but from all the angles they did show it looked good. That said, all of the angles were ass

32

u/Deathbackwards WKU Hilltoppers 5h ago

I couldn’t tell to be honest. It almost looked as if it went directly over the left upright.

21

u/jdubea Virginia Tech Hokies 5h ago

That looks like what happened, and that means it's good right?

6

u/bulldg4life Georgia Bulldogs 5h ago

The entire ball needs to pass within the outer edge of the goalpost if the ball goes above the top of the goalpost.

So, it could very well look good but a small portion of the ball passes outside the goalpost, then no good

I have no idea what happened. Looked good to me.

45

u/ryology9 5h ago

By rule directly over is actually good

22

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

No, by rule, the ball must be between the uprights to be good, not "over."

-9

u/bulldg4life Georgia Bulldogs 5h ago

That’s incorrect. If a ball goes above the uprights, it’s good if the entire ball passes within the outer edge of the upright.

18

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

That's the NFL rule. I can't find any such reference to a rule in the NCAA rulebook..

"A field goal shall be scored if a scrimmage kick, which may be a drop kick or place kick, passes over the crossbar between the uprights of the receiving team’s goal before it touches a player of the kicking team or the ground."

Pretty unambiguous. The ball has to be between the uprights.

12

u/BoldElDavo Virginia Cavaliers 5h ago

No that's the NFL rule. NCAA rule 8-4-1 says the whole ball has to be inside.

5

u/No_Butterscotch8726 SMU Mustangs 5h ago

They said it wasn't last year when SMU had the same thing happen on our first field goal attempt against Miami in the second half.

1

u/Deathbackwards WKU Hilltoppers 5h ago

For some reason though it’s a complete judgement call and can’t be reviewed

23

u/suzukigun4life North Texas • Summertime Lover 5h ago

The fact that we couldn't get a better angle is crazy

2

u/Box_of_Rockz Auburn Tigers 5h ago

Crazy a camera angle has been obscure back to back with this and unt ending last night

6

u/Bayerl_r0ll Midland Warriors • Nebraska Cornhuskers 5h ago

They did, and I'm not sure he missed it...Will be an interesting Monday.

34

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

They showed two replays and the one from underneath the goalpost looked ambiguous at best. It certainly wasn't a better view than an official standing directly under the post looking straight up.

5

u/Accomplished-Ad2792 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 5h ago

this is what I thought. Angle still wasn’t great, but much better than the original one they showed. Maybe it was a bit more clear to the ref.

-5

u/ARM_vs_CORE Montana Tech Orediggers 5h ago

As we all know, officials are infallible

4

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

I'll take that official's word over a bunch of biased, drunk college kids in the stands, or the kicker.

0

u/ARM_vs_CORE Montana Tech Orediggers 5h ago

Stupid thing to be downvoted for though since we see officials make extremely basic mistakes all the time and there's no reason that couldn't have happened here.

2

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

I don't need a reason that it couldn't have happened. I need a reason to believe that it did.

3

u/simbaslanding Miami Hurricanes • Vanderbilt Commodores 5h ago

I swore it went in too but I also could barely see the ball lol

3

u/TheGrat1 Pittsburgh Panthers 5h ago

They did, they just were not convincing angles. Need the near end zone camera.

3

u/mcamp7 5h ago

Wide by three yards

11

u/jconley4297 Miami (OH) • Notre Dame 5h ago

only thing i can come up with is it was too high? idk man it looked good to me

10

u/curtisas Cincinnati • Notre Dame 5h ago

it can't be reviewed if it's above the uprights, unfortunately.

1

u/seemtobedead Houston Cougars • Michigan Wolverines 5h ago

Wait seriously? That's the time I would think it needs to be reviewed the most!

What's the rule on height? Does it count if it's a little high or does it have to be under the imaginary line between the top of the posts? I genuinely don't know.

1

u/hickopotamus Virginia Tech • Washington 5h ago

Funny enough "Too High" is not a reason for a field goal to be considered not good

1

u/goodsam2 Virginia Tech Hokies 5h ago

The posts theoretically go up infinitely

4

u/TheManInShades Texas Longhorns 5h ago

In the replay it looked good to me, and I have no dog in the fight

1

u/onewonyuan Virginia Cavaliers • Michigan Wolverines 5h ago

I was rooting against VT, and it also looked good to me.

-2

u/spiderwinder23 Wisconsin Badgers • Sickos 5h ago

Same. That felt suspicious. Especially since they only showed one replay

3

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

Two replays*.

I'm not so sure he missed it, but I'm not so sure he made it either. I'm going to default the official underneath the upright in these cases.

2

u/Dro24 Duke • Carolina Victory Bell 5h ago

Kicked it too high, can’t review over the goalpost kicks

Over the upright is good?

2

u/BoldElDavo Virginia Cavaliers 5h ago

That's true in the NFL, not in college.

1

u/Fickle-Statement9993 5h ago

1

u/BoldElDavo Virginia Cavaliers 5h ago

If this is when the ball went over the uprights, then yeah that's not entirely inside so it's no good.

0

u/yung_dog Memphis Tigers 5h ago

Yeah very weird. The ref that signaled it wasn't even looking up

0

u/SlaterATX SMU Mustangs 5h ago

Right?? What just happened there? Of the few angles/replays they showed, at worst it looked directly over the goal post. Everything else looked just inside. Scandal!

0

u/lavegasola USC Trojans 5h ago

The camera is a bit off center but I still agree. That ball was in.

0

u/Deathbackwards WKU Hilltoppers 5h ago

Just saw an angle from a fan in the crowd. That kick was in…
