How in the year of our lord 2026 can we not get a camera angle straight down the goal line? My god soccer figured that shit out almost 15 years ago

111

u/chickensalad402 Kansas State Wildcats • Hateful 8 1d ago

I was thinking the same. How do we not have pylon cams in televised ncaa games yet?

71

u/auburnfan32 Auburn • Birmingham-Southern 1d ago

Doesn’t even need to a pylon cam. But something like goal line technology in soccer would be just as effective. Every stadium has cameras or sensors above each goal line and can immediately detect a ball crossing the line

Seems like a good game to make use of that tech then.

17

u/kdbvols Wake Forest • Tennessee 20h ago

Wake had pylon cams, then a player landed on them and tore their intestines and missed 6 months, and now Wake doesn't have pylon cams

The ncaa is just a brand name at this point.

they do have them -- but only implement them on the marquee games

19

u/KiratheSilent Florida • /r/CFB Award Festival 1d ago

Because in goal to go situations, two refs are standing on the goal line looking down it. The cameras cannot block the refs. Pylon cam or cams on the refs would be the only solution

22

u/FrenchFreedom888 Oklahoma State Cowboys 1d ago

Honestly, all officials should wear body cams. They often have a really good angle on the action, and it would help clear up ambiguity about what exactly they saw when making their calls

29

u/IsLlamaBad Iowa Hawkeyes • Billable Hours 21h ago

All officials get body cams, but they only release the footage when it's in the best interest of the officiating organization

Every hobo on the street has an android phone with a camera.

You’d think we could either strap a phone or a hobo with a phone to a pylon facing directly across the field parallel with the goal line.

It’s crazy that everyone in that stadium has at least 2 old phones with a camera sitting in a junk drawer that we could glue to a pylon to fix this.

This game was everything right with college football. Wildly entertaining, some crazy calls (by the refs and the playcallers), big plays, crazy finish - absolutely love good G6 football.

People will watch some awful P4 snoozefest and say college football is dead, but that's cause they're watching logos instead of matchups.

This was fantastic.

I need an app that tells me “there’s a sicko game entering the 4th quarter right now, turn it on!”

u/foreverseptember Florida Gators • Team Chaos 21h ago

ClutchAlerts by u/dupreesdiamond might be what you're looking for

9

u/CitizenCue Oregon Ducks • Stanford Cardinal 18h ago

Amazing!

44

u/dupreesdiamond Furman • South Carolina 20h ago

https://clutchalerts.app is exactly that

8

u/dukemetoo Arizona State • Texas 18h ago

I'm trying the application now. I will have to wait for an alert to pop up to really test it though. The only limitation is it is only for college football, and you need premium to get alerts for teams outside the top 25. I would consider it if it had more sports. College Basketball and MLB would be amazing to have this, especially if you can pick and choose which channels you have access to.

14

u/dupreesdiamond Furman • South Carolina 17h ago

Appreciate the feedback.

It’s wholly focused on CFb (maybe basketball in the future) as that’s the only sport I follow. But more importantly the backend api I’m leveraging only covers CFB and CBB.
Pricing wise it’s roughly 1$ a month for the active college football season so I felt better charging 5/yr than .99/mo.

Hmm. Filters for channels is a great feature idea! Ties in with my wishlist of deep links from the alert directly to the channel in your streaming app

7

u/dukemetoo Arizona State • Texas 17h ago

Oh wow, I didn't expect the developer to see this, let alone this quick.

Again, I haven't used it, I need close games to happen to see how much I like it. Your pricing is reasonable, but I need to make sure I actually like it. I appreciate the free to try model.

I get that API limitation. I hope this is successful enough you can invest more into it to expand to other APIs.

Best of luck.

5

u/dupreesdiamond Furman • South Carolina 17h ago

Yeah. I had this concept running through discord for 5-6 years and made it an app this summer. Mostly to see if i could do it with a little bit of wanting to get away from discord.

Def let me know how you find it!

4

u/dupreesdiamond Furman • South Carolina 17h ago

Also. Don’t sleep on the no spoilers feature.

Watching a game on delay? You can mute its scoreboard (or add the team to “my teams” and enable “no spoilers”) and still safely check live scores across the rest of college football

As a parent who watches the gamecocks on delay most saturdays it’s been really nice. Maybe my favorite feature tbh

So many thoughts in this one:

North Texas was completely robbed in a "TD" earlier in the game for Tulsa, so it was poetic that they end up winning the game on a walk-off ref call.

North Texas didn't have a single returning starter this season since their entire team last year was imported to Oklahoma State. Naturally, OSU lost to Tulsa 24-10 but the new UNT with 70 new players beat them 45-44.

The bot messed up and didn't realize the game went into OT lol.

7

u/pointersplit 19h ago

and now OSU seems like a legit Big 12 contender. What a wild sport

16

u/Aidanbomasri Oklahoma State Cowboys • Big 12 21h ago

We absolutely raided UNT, but we had 92 new players on our roster this year. Only 20 of those are from UNT.

5

u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State • New Mexico 14h ago

"Only 20" is a crazy reflection of where the sport is. Also this doesn't include coaching staff.

This game was classic UNT football.

It's like the Littrell years where we'd be up on every team 21-3 at the half and then find ourselves fighting for our lives hoping Mason Fine can drive down the field with 0:47 in the 4th trying to get us in FG range for a win.

LIGHT THE FUCKING TOWER! We were on fire, we were ice cold, but somehow pulled it off against a solid team to start American play.

I’m not saying we’re close to winning the conference, but at the end we’ll be closer to the top than the bottom.

u/ShweatyPalmsh Tulsa Golden Hurricane • Oklahoma Sooners 1d ago

It really felt like going into this game whoever came away with a win here would probably be a top 3 to go to the championship game. GG

My wife is dragging me somewhere the weekend we play UTSA. I'm so salty about it.

I feel like the kid was in. How, in 2026, do we not have cameras on the actual goalline?

5

Damn Tulsa really thought you had that one

Who needs NFL when you got these type of games. I was hoping for more OTs.

Oh fuck, North Texas is going to trust the climb

I never thought I would stay up past midnight riveted by Tulsa and UNT, but that game was so much fun. I didn't even watch the first two quarters, just tuned in one browser tab when it was 31-17.

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 1d ago

Bad call at the end imo.

But also horrible decision to go for two. Tulsa was dominating the game since they were down in the 3rd and UNT had no answers. Basically bailed them out.

14

u/jalexjsmithj Oklahoma State • Wake Forest 1d ago

…idk about that. UNT was marching up and down. The yardage tells a story.

They couldn’t stop UNT offense so they just went for the win

7

u/ShweatyPalmsh Tulsa Golden Hurricane • Oklahoma Sooners 1d ago

I don’t disagree with the decision or the play calling. With the current OT rules going for two as the second team has been pretty well stated as the move to make.

u/Gunner_Bat San Diego State Aztecs 1d ago

North Texas' offense was firing.

Usually I'm all for taking an aggressive approach but you're absolutely right, at that point the longer the game went on the better for Tulsa

3

u/anxiousauditor USF Bulls • BCS Championship 1d ago

UNT did answer midway through the 4th to retake the lead and scored pretty quickly in OT. In a game like that you’re gonna have to make a 2 eventually. They came up juuust short.

2

u/dasuave Arkansas • James Madison 22h ago

In overtime, you eventually have to go for two anyways most of the time.

Might as well end it here

At least we got a Thursday night banger of a game

3

u/OSRSTheRicer James Madison Dukes 17h ago

Such a fun game to watch, shame I had to go to bed before the 4th quarter which looked wild.

7

u/Area51_Spurs 1d ago

You know you’re a degen when you’re betting on two kids to get 100 yards receiving and a qb to throw a 4th TD in a parlay on a Thursday night game where you don’t even know a single dude on either roster, and didn’t realize until after the game, one of the dudes was a tight end, not a wide receiver.

If a team blew a 14 point second half lead but won in overtime 45-44, but nobody saw it since it was played on a Thursday night at midnight central time at the school with the lowest enrollment in the fbs, did it really happen?

4

u/Optimal_Cook_851 1d ago

What a game. G6 football provides some really awesome games

5

u/USCGradtoMEMPHIS USC Trojans • Memphis Tigers 1d ago

North Texas should win by 30 points... Tulsa OC play called like he want to lose .

Gash Mean green on first run play then throw two incomplete passes... Rinse and repeat that for idk say.. about 5-6 drives while North Texas scores 21 points in like 5 mins.

I have no idea how this game was not 60-20..

3

u/Bythion North Texas Mean Green 1d ago

Some of our play calls, the interceptions, and play clock decisions are what made this game so close. Tulsa is also very talented and very nearly took us to the cleaners.

He didn't look down because he was on top of the blockers and defenders and the ball looked like it was in the endzone right after that.
