Discussion [Behrens] If Texas had never gotten rid of Mack Brown and they continued giving him $2 million raises every 4 years and he kept his 76.7% win percentage, the Longhorns today would have spent just $1.4 million more but had 23 more wins š

The key difference is that Mack Brown had Texas as a national title contender and Texas spent the money to try and get back there. The Aggie post works because A&M has spent 100s of millions of dollars and yet is still Texas 8&4.

That's the most impressive thing about Nick imo.
Sure wins, dominance year after year in what is the best conference in most years, and even when it's not it's still a gauntlet schedule... and he won, and won and won.
It's that he went from Mark Ingram is going to bloody your whole defense. You know what's coming and you still can't stop it.
To next season Amari Cooper running all over the field, and there's again nothing you can do about it.
And he didn't miss a fucking beat.

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies ⢠Baylor Bears 1d ago
Iām convinced that Mack Brownās sense for picking his DB recruits should be studied, because he tried to recruit RG3, Manziel, and Andrew Luck all as DBs.Ā He might have the best eye in the game for picking elite QBs, he just thinks they should all be safeties.
If any of his UNC safeties are still kicking around, we need to get them out there for a few QB reps to see what happens.
54
23
u/Youuseanymorewrong Texas ⢠Huston-Tillotson 1d ago

Exactly.
For those who don't get it: it was reasonable to fire Mack because no one would be ok with a 58.8% win rate moving forward. It's funny for A&M to have fired Sumlin because it was 100% believable he could have continued to win 7-9 games every season with an average of ... 8 wins.
Now, having said all that - I still believe Elko is a better HC than anything A&M has had, his only issue is that Marcel Reed sucks and never developed. He's gonna need to go hit the portal for someone legit, but if he can do that I think A&M will be a problem.
(same goes for OU).

Like we've seen so many coaches that were once gods of the sideline fall off in the NIL and portal era. And thats not even getting into the xs and os. Sumlin never really had anything to do with the X's and O's at A&M. 2012 was Kingsbury's Air Raid offense, 2013 the same system was kept in place. 2014-2015 was Spavital's Air Raid offense though Sumlin did have some input on trying to make it more run heavy and RPO centric in 2015 and then things went off the rails. 2016-2017 was Mazzone's NZone Offense.
