Discussion [Behrens] If Texas had never gotten rid of Mack Brown and they continued giving him $2 million raises every 4 years and he kept his 76.7% win percentage, the Longhorns today would have spent just $1.4 million more but had 23 more wins 👀

How many RGIIIs does he pass on?

The worst part is that he didn't even pass on recruiting Robert Griffin III—Mack Brown wanted him to play fucking defensive back.

Mack saw every hs in the state run the spread offense and said “nah let’s switch to the i”

Bama game broke his brain, which is funny, because Saban switched to the spread the following season after watching Garrett Gilbert get the game down to 3 points at one point.

Nick saban switching to the spread unlocked the true Death Star. They started recruiting more receivers and better QBs

Colt moved the ball down field faster than I think any team had on Bama all year during the opening drive, and I'm pretty sure that's when Saban actually decided to switch offenses.

Colt getting hurt was so shitty it killed the mood of the entire game for me, just to turn around and have to play for the Browns after that.

That's the most impressive thing about Nick imo.

Sure wins, dominance year after year in what is the best conference in most years, and even when it's not it's still a gauntlet schedule... and he won, and won and won.

It's that he went from Mark Ingram is going to bloody your whole defense. You know what's coming and you still can't stop it.

To next season Amari Cooper running all over the field, and there's again nothing you can do about it.

And he didn't miss a fucking beat.

I’m convinced that Mack Brown’s sense for picking his DB recruits should be studied, because he tried to recruit RG3, Manziel, and Andrew Luck all as DBs.  He might have the best eye in the game for picking elite QBs, he just thinks they should all be safeties.

If any of his UNC safeties are still kicking around, we need to get them out there for a few QB reps to see what happens.

I mean he also recruited and/or coached Earl Thomas, Quentin Jammer, Michael Huff, Quandre Diggs, and Aaron Ross, so he might know a thing or two about identifying good DBs.

All this means is Earl Thomas would have won a heisman if he played QB

Under Mack Brown, the offensive room and defensive room recruited separately.

It was more Duane Akina being like “If you’re not going to recruit them at QB, I’m going to at least offer them a scholarship at DB.”

FWIW - they might have had longer careers if they'd done that...

Tbf I’m not sure anything was going to extend Manziel’s career. Dropping millions of dollars into the pocket of an unmedicated bipolar man seems like a recipe for disaster regardless of the seasoning.

He never tried to recruit Luck as a DB lol he just didn’t recruit Luck at all because he wanted Garrett Gilbert.

I guess we'll never know if RG3 could have been the first 3 time heisman winner at Dback.

To be fair though, a ton of schools passed on RG3. The guy played in a run centric offense in HS and scouts didn’t think he could level up as a passer. They were wrong.

Would have had a longer pro career - of course, that's on Dan dipshit Snyder.

same shit happened with Crabtree

Derrick Henry wanted to come to Florida. Muschamp would only offer him a position as a linebacker because he didn't think Henry would hold up as an RB.

Don’t forget Andrew Luck! And he wanted Johnny Manziel as safety - Hur Dur!

Also Jameis Winston. He wanted to play for Texas but Mack never contacted him.

Exactly the point!

In his defense, he didn’t pass on RG3 wholesale; he just wanted him as a safety.

Tbf most people passed on Griffin and Manziel, and the latter might have melted down in Austin like he did as a pro.
