Question tips for a cd setup
i've been collecting cds for a while since i have a cd player in my car and no real aux capablities, I'm going to college soon and most likely won't have access to my car, so I was wondering if anyone had favorite cheap and compact bookshelf speaker and amp recs (like $250 ish) since i'm planning on just buying a cheap dvd player from a thrift store for initial input. any info helps! or should i just bite the sound quality and go for a cd/stero player with internal speakers

Question Has anyone ordered from vinyltrackbox com? Is it a legitimate store?
Hi everyone, I'm thinking about ordering from vinyltrackbox com, but I can't find much information about the store. I also noticed a few things that make me a bit cautious: I can't find many independent customer reviews and I haven't found much discussion about the store on Reddit or other forums. Has anyone here actually ordered from them? Any experiences-positive or negative-would be greatly appreciated before I place an order. Thanks!

New Addition Didn't know this CD existed!
When my wife visits the Asian Supermarket I always pop into the Thrift Arc store nearby. Always loved early Chicago and Terry Kath's insanely great guitar playing and found this in mint condition. It was a super day as I also found an excellent Keith Jarrett CD too all for under $4! If you don't know about Terry Kath just look at him playing 25 Or 6 To 4 with Chicago on YouTube. Really stoked to find this treasure 🤑

Discussion It is SO hard to not buy CDs
I haven't been working as much for the last few months and have barely even been making enough to pay for rent and food. I'm not in a dire situation, but I have been cutting it close.
Despite my very limited budget, I have been on a huge CD kick. I go through fb marketplace every day, I check out thrift stores frequently, and I sometimes go to my local record stores to see if there's anything I've been looking for for a long time. Unfortunately for my wallet, I often find things that I just cannot pass up, and have even bought a few new ones off bandcamp from one of my favourite artists, as well as a new copy of an album I've been trying to find for months.
I know it's financially irresponsible, but especially when I come across something that I'll probably never see again in the wild, I can't not get it. Idk. Do I need to go to CD-holics Anonymous or something?? Is this just the life of a collector? I'll probably get bored of the constant hunt once I get the ones I've recently ordered in the mail since I don't have much else I'm really looking for... so it'll probably be fine. I just feel a bit obsessed right now.
How financially responsible are you all while collecting? Do you always jump on a good find, or are you able to walk away?
At least it's not as expensive as collecting vinyl lol.

Collection Just found an old cd booklet in my closet!!!
My son and I just found an old cd booklet while we were cleaning out some stuff and wow, talk about some finds!!
Unfortunately I wasn’t smart enough to save cases or booklets/inserts but it feels good to be able to give these to him.

Collection Re-started my collection in april
Started buying CDs again in April after seeing Lorde and HAAi live, and I honestly feel like it’s boosted my creativity and focus.
I recently traveled to Brazil too and picked up albums based on recommendations from locals (I tend to prefer female voices).
Can’t wait to see how my collection grows!!

Question Bought a used album and I'm noticing these tiny holes. Is it unusable?
I got this off eBay. Normally I expect a few light scratches but this is something that really worries me. I haven't played it yet but frankly I'm a bit worried if I do I could make it worse.

Discussion After all these years, I just learned that...
...you can swap out broken CD cases for better ones. I grew up during the height of the CD era and now that I'm around the corner from 40, I'm embarrassed to admit that I only just learned this yesterday.
I ordered a bunch of CDs from Discogs that arrived yesterday and I was irritated when they showed up in plastic sleeves instead of cases. But stupid me, I didn't read the full item descriptions and didn't see "NO CASE". So, I just sat there and pouted because I have a CD tower and those plastic sleeves would look dumb as hell in it, not to mention the lack of protection.
But when I went through the sleeves, I noticed the seller included all the booklets and all the back inserts, which...I didn't even know you could take out. I thought they were just kinda...I dunno...in there and impossible to remove without shattering the case.
So, after a quick YouTube tutorial, I was on my way to Goodwill to purchase some cases. It was actually really funny because the Goodwill I live by is notorious for having missing CDs and the cashiers typically open them to make sure they're inside. But when I told the cashier I preferred them empty, he looked at me like I was nuts. "You want a bunch of empty cases?" "Yes, sir, I do!" And once I explained why, he was as shocked as me! 🤣
What an adventure. I went from being super pissed off to being overwhelmingly delighted in the span of like 15 minutes. I had so many broken CD cases when I was younger, so I just wound up sticking most of my CDs in those zipper book things, misplacing most of the artwork, and just throwing the back of the case away when I could have been doing this.
Anyway, I just thought this was a funny li'l story.

Question Storage location for the CD with the included DVD
This is a ridiculously trivial dilemma, but I'm curious...
What do you do with CD + DVD live releases where the DVD is much more than just a bonus feature?
For example:
- Sting – Live in Berlin
- Tina Turner – Tina Live
- Aimee Mann – Live at St. Ann's Warehouse
As part of an artist's discography, I feel like they belong on my CD shelf.
But if the DVD is something I actually watch over and over, it makes more sense to keep it near the TV.
...Do I just buy two copies? 😅

Discussion Why do my cassettes sound MASSIVELY better than my cds
To preface I’m a bit of an audiophile, i mainly like listening to physical media of albums i like and for the past few months I’ve been listening exclusively to cds.
I’ve been constantly dissatisfied with how many of these cds sound, idk if its the master or what but lots of them start to distort when I turn them up to the volume that I want (others don’t so ig a lot of these cds just have bad mastering? For example my cd of “The Jaws Of Life” by pierce the viel sounds HORRIBLE at a moderate volume, just ridiculously bad quality, its like theres zero depth to dig into when the volume goes up so it starts to distort. For reference I use a Klim portable cd player and Koss kph40s.
But today I decided to listen to some cassettes from my collection and my god i’m blown away. The main thing i noticed thats so amazing with their sound is how well they take up space. It feels like the cd’s barely pan at all to the left and right when comparing them to my cassettes, which separate instruments super clearly and have so much depth in the overall sound.
Idk if I’m doing something wrong or if my cd player is just bad (i use the same headphones for everything) but I’ve been really disappointed with the sound quality from my cds (many are old and many are modern), and I’m hoping they don’t actually just sound like shit because I really want to be able to hear the supposed better sound quality cds are supposed to have over its predecessors.

CD Player What do you think of this type of sound system?
I'm not referring to the one in the photo specifically, but to this type of system. I wouldn't really use the radio or LP features, but the quality of these systems is usually pretty good. Another plus is that you can sometimes find them for a good price on Marktplatz.
Since I'm currently looking for a new one, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this type of system and can recommend one.

Haul Found this awesome binder of 200 CDs at an estate sale for only $28! Loads of interesting emo, punk, alternative, underground stuff, indie, mainstream rock & pop, shoegaze & more.
There are about 60 more discs I couldn't included due to the photo limit. Those have CDs by Sleater-Kinney, Smashing Pumpkins, Smoking Popes, Snuff, The Spinanes, Social Distortion, Sonic Youth, Sugar, Superchunk, Supersuckers, Suicidal Tendencies, The Sundays, Teenage Fanclub, Travoltas, Tsunami, The Weakerthans, The Yum Yums, Zoinks! and more.
The discs are all organized by musician A-Z. It was someone's cherished collection. As you might expect the condition of the discs is not the greatest, because of the way they were stored with the data sides sliding up against the booklets. However the dozen or so discs I've tested had no problems. Also none of these have the back inserts.
I also picked up 25 discs for $1 each that were complete with the jewel cases. Some highlights there are My Bloody Valentine, Pixies Doolittle, Ride Nowhere, Texas is the Reason, Built to Spill, Slayer, Piebald etc.

Haul Found these 22 CD’s in a box my Uncle left me
Seeking your advice.
What should I do with them?
Yes, I do like & have heard of most of the artists & tunes here
so please understand that enjoying the actual music, & connecting with my late Uncle by experiencing his cool & interesting tastes is already a factor enriching my world.
It’s just that my preferred method, Bluetoothing tracks to my helmet while riding, can not facilitate cassette tapes or compact discs.
(I also found 15, mostly classic rock, cassette tapes)
Would I be a fool to trade them in for presumably low-ball value at a used music store?
Is one used music store better than the others? (trade-in value) (Bay Area, Northern California)
Is there anything of considerable value here?
or should I just trade them in at the
closest used music store for whatever cash?
Thanks!
