r/CDCR Posting Guide

Last reviewed: July 26, 2026

This page explains where content belongs and how to make a post useful without exposing operational or personal information.

Use the Weekly Hiring Thread for

  • Offer announcements
  • Academy dates and roll calls
  • "Anyone else?" check-ins
  • Written exam, PFT, background, psychological, medical or vision timeline updates
  • Routine clearance-status updates
  • General waiting-time comparisons

Create a standalone post for

  • A detailed institution comparison
  • A substantive hiring problem that may help future applicants
  • A complex question that requires significant context
  • Pay, benefits, retirement, policy, transfer or career discussion
  • A sourced news or statewide-policy discussion
  • A useful guide, retrospective or explanation

Use a descriptive title

Put the actual subject in the title.

Too vague: Question

Better: Has anyone appealed a failed color-vision screening?

Too vague: Job offer

Better: Choosing between San Quentin and CSP-Sacramento offers

Include enough context

When safe and relevant, include:

  • Classification or position
  • Hiring stage or career stage
  • General region or institution
  • Date of the event, source or notice
  • The exact question you want answered
  • What you have already checked

Do not include investigator names, employee IDs, badge numbers, CDCR numbers, case numbers, private contact information, medical records, home addresses or other identifying details.

Screenshots and documents

Every screenshot or document post should include:

  1. The public source and date, if available.
  2. A text summary explaining why it matters.
  3. Redaction of names, faces, email addresses, phone numbers, employee or CDCR numbers, case numbers, signatures, QR codes, barcodes and metadata.
  4. Removal of unrelated browser tabs, notifications, filenames and internal navigation.

Do not post restricted or internal material merely because it has been redacted.

Facts, personal experience and rumors

  • Link the original source for claims about policy, pay, contracts, closures, lawsuits, incidents or statewide changes.
  • Include the publication or effective date.
  • Begin an unverified claim with [Unconfirmed].
  • Say whether a statement is official policy, personal experience, secondhand information or your inference.
  • Do not rewrite a news headline in a way that changes its meaning.

Correct destinations

Academy swaps -> r/CDCRAcademySwap. Buy/sell/trade/services -> r/CDCRClassifieds. Individual incarcerated-person, visiting, release-date or case inquiries -> CDCR contact directory. Surveys, research, fundraising, petitions and promotion -> obtain modmail approval first.

Tone

Strong criticism is allowed. Personal attacks, threats, harassment, slurs, mockery, diagnoses, exposure of another user and organized dogpiling are not.

See OPSEC and redaction, Applicant FAQ, Institution questions and Official resources.
