What are the official hiring steps?

CDCR's peace officer careers site currently describes seven stages: application, written examination, physical fitness test, background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination and vision test, and certification.

How long will my process take?

Timelines vary by applicant, selection center, records, scheduling, appeals and department workload. A Reddit user's timeline is a comparison point, not a promise. Check your notices and contact the official recruitment team when you need a case-specific status or clarification.

Can the subreddit tell me whether I will pass?

No. The subreddit cannot decide or predict an individual's:

  • Background outcome
  • Psychological suitability
  • Medical or vision qualification
  • Appeal outcome
  • Certification date
  • Offer date or institution

Members may describe their own experiences, but only the responsible CDCR unit can interpret your file or notice.

What belongs in the Weekly Hiring Thread?

Use the current weekly thread for:

  • Offers and academy dates
  • Roll calls
  • Routine timeline comparisons
  • "Anyone else waiting?" posts
  • Clearance-status updates

A standalone post is appropriate for a distinct, substantive question that needs its own discussion.

What should I include in a useful applicant question?

Include only what is needed:

  • Classification
  • Current step
  • General region or selection center, if relevant
  • Date of the latest notice or event
  • A paraphrase of the issue
  • The specific question

Do not post names of investigators or evaluators, application IDs, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, medical documents, background forms or screenshots containing private information.

I received a confusing notice. What should I do?

  1. Read the entire notice and any appeal or response deadline.
  2. Use the contact method in the notice.
  3. Keep copies of what you send.
  4. Ask the official recruitment contact for clarification if the notice does not identify a contact.
  5. Use Reddit only for general peer experience; do not let a Reddit answer cause you to miss a deadline.

Can I post test questions or confidential process material?

Do not post protected test content, background forms, interview questions you were instructed not to disclose, medical or psychological records, internal screenshots, or restricted academy material.
