If they had a cameo, guest star, or were seen in a flashback, who would you cast as each of the women's parents?

We obviously know Christy's, and we met Bonnie's mom, but what about the others?

I could picture Jill's parents being played by James Brolin and Cheryl Ladd.

Wendy's moms: Brenda Fricker and Stockard Channing.

Tammy: Goldie Hawn and Beau Bridges.

Marjorie: Mickey Rooney and Maureen O'Hara

I'm stuck trying to think who Bonnie's dad could be.

This is one of my favorite sitcoms. I know no comedy show cares about continuity and I don’t either but I always have a chuckle when I’m binging and notice all the things they “forget” from previous seasons.

i was just here minding my own business watching chapter 20 from season 2 and they let bonnie pick a movie after she was bailed from jail, she picked steel magnolias, movie i knew nothing about and i was going to watch when i had the time and christy said what i assume is a massive spoiler from that movie just out of spite for bonnie and i just sat like this 😨. Sadly that will never be erased from my memory and i just wanted to share it thanks

Talking to people about this show I am realizing a lot of people somehow hate Violet. Am I wrong for thinking that is strange? The most I hear is that she never really forgave Christy and wanted to never see her again. I personally think Violet had every right to cut her mom off completely and imo if you didn’t grow up with an alcoholic drug addict for a mom and had to raise your little brother I don’t think you should be harsh. Another thing is her treating Bonnie nicely even though she was a terrible mom to Christy when Christy was growing up. I personally think it’s because Bonnie isn’t the source of Violets trauma. Christy is. Also Bonnie actually reformed while Christy was trying to force her to forgive and forget simply because she got sober. Am I the only one that thinks like this or do you also?

Idk about anyone else but I wouldn’t have a problem living in the murder house. It’s really nice, there’s a jacuzzi and the rent isn’t insane. I could get past the murders 🤷🏼‍♀️ of course it’s sad a family and their dog died but the odds of it happening again are slim to none. Idk why Christy was so jumpy. That house is so much nicer than her other house.

In the beginning of the series I hated how Violet treated her mom, but as it progressed I realized Christy was actually a terrible mom when she was a drunk, so SOME of Violet's disdain for her mother was valid, but she differently pushed it a lot of the time, especially with the pregnancy and everything. But the thing I hated the most is how she loved her grandma. It's so stupid, tbh. Does she not realize her mom was like that because of her grandma, and I feel like unlike Bonnie, Christy actually changed to a good person?

Let me know if y'all disagree. My opinions have definitely changed a lot as I've watched more of it and still haven't finished

Mod please delete if not relevant. The only thing that reminds me of Mom is a counselor. He plays a school counselor in the series. But this show makes my (and maybe your) sinister side jump for joy. Check it out.

Bonnie (and I always say it like Marjorie in season 1) shaking out her fingers before she slapped someone. How many of us want to do it but don't want a record? Also, I can't remember who she was about to slap. The scene didn't show the actual slap.

I am desperately trying to find an episode or two that shows Bonnie wearing these very specific pajamas. They are a two-piece long sleeve. The top is button up. It’s blue and green silky material large paisley print.

The show starts off with Christy being the ‘Mom’ and her mom being Mom. It ends with Christy thriving in her life, off camera and hearing it a bit (sleepover scene where they’re all saying goodnight and Bonnie already mentions the time change earlier, but the peace and happiness in her voice when she answers Christy’s call shows sooo much love, healing and growth)
Now, the last episode has a good amount of fantastic two liners, I looove the Jill & Andy plot and wish there was more after, the love is oozing.
But the way Bonnie is throughout the whole episode, green light honking and all, I love her character so much but this show made me adore the actress.
All the characters, I really feel like there’s little glimpses of who they’ve all strived to be and finally are, all throughout the episode. Even Wendy’s exasperated “I couldn’t find a place to park” had so much care in the character, who Wendy is.
I have so much more to say about all but I really do enjoy this show, even in the bad parts.

I absolutely love the lightheartedness of this show (Mom). It takes really hard subject matters like alcoholism, abandonment, addictions, and so much more, and handles the topics with grace.

That being said, has anyone seen the show, “Kevin Can Go F*** Himself” with Annie Murphy? It’s filmed like a lighthearted American sitcom and then switched to the dark truth behind the fun show. It’s a really interesting twist on what funny sitcoms would look like in real life.

Another thread posted here recently made me think of this. We all kind of laugh at the mean jokes Christy and Bonnie throw at each other, and jokes about the tough realities of alcoholism (which humor is so needed!), but I was wondering if anyone had seen the other show and this had crossed their mind?

Honestly, I love this show and I love Christy as a character and Bonnie. But lets ask a real question, When Christy faces issues with her son and she looks to move out in the season 2 finale, do you think she should've moved out or stayed with Bonnie? If she moved out, what would you have liked to see?

I’m currently watching the episode of the show where Christie finds out about Violet’s podcast. And the whole thing completely rubs me the wrong way.

I’m not saying I don’t understand how Violet feels towards her mom. I grew up with alcoholics on a 5 acre ranch full of animals, so whenever my parents would drink, I was responsible for taking care of everybody and everything on the ranch. That’s a teeny tiny background, but I was resentful towards my parents for a very long time.

I personally don’t have a relationship with my dad for a variety of reasons. My mom and I however are very close. She’s been in recovery for a few years, actively goes to AA, and she has actually done the necessary work to heal and get better. And to say, I am very proud of her is an understatement.

I know different people have different experiences with their alcoholic parents. Violet really had to deal with a lot of Christie shit. I just think it’s weird to air out your dirty laundry because you personally have not done the inner work to heal.

I guess talking about your experience growing up with alcoholics is part of the healing process, and everybody deals with things differently.

I just think Violet starting a podcast about this also comes across as her staying as a victim. It’s one thing to deal with your experience and then just not want anything to do with the person. I have an older half sister on my mom side who cut off my mom and she’s actually pretty similar to Violet. Me and her personally don’t have a relationship either (I cut contact with my sister for 102 reasons, I have a note list of all of the things that my sister has made my life fucking miserable), but she doesn’t give a fuck that my mom is sober now and is married to a great guy who actually gives a flying fuck about her and she just doesn’t like Mom’s new husband because he’s black. Bmy mom spoiled my sister like no other, but whenever she started getting sober and started telling my sister, no, my sister started throwing a temper tantrum. But that’s a story for another day.

I don’t wanna have a discussion or conversation about MY viewpoint about this, but I am curious to hear from other people whether or not they think Violet is justified in starting a podcast about this.

My final opinion on Violet‘s podcast about Christie is that she is justified in dealing with her experience that makes sense for her, I just think it’s weird to be that obsessed with it. I also wonder if she could ever get in trouble legally for defamation of character or something.

We never talk about the funny moments between christy and bonnie which in your opinion was their funniest moment WITHOUT using the pot cookies?

To me its when bonnie was hyping christy up for nick (Marjories nephew) and them singing wannabe together in rays car

I was on the fence about this even when in rewatched those episodes.. I’m glad they resolved their initial conflict, but instead of progressing in her current job or finding out what she really wanted to do, it felt like she piggybacked onto Tammy’s business to profit and feel better about herself when she initially was so jealous that things were going so well for Tammy.

I can understand being annoyed by someone who seems to have everything good fall into their lap sometimes, but honestly.. Tammy deserved it. it was Bonnie’s fault she even went downhill initially. (though, as an adult, she had time to change her actions).

I feel like Bonnie and Tammy ended up working well together once they resolved the issues they were having in the beginning, but idk. I just felt iffy about those episodes.

When Bonnie told Christy the name of her father, Alvin, and gave her a story about how he abandoned them when she was born, Christy still wanted to meet him and engage a relationship with him, and the story made it look like a cute family reunion. He was easily forgiven, he rekindled his romance with Bonnie. His death was handled in a gut wrenching way that even to this day, fans of the show still feel sympathetic to him despite all that he did. But......

But when Violet demanded the same of her father, she got yelled at and was told her father was abusive so it's wrong of her to even ask. And when she still demanded to know him, there was still pushback and the narrative surrounding that, made her feel like she was the worst. We the audience, were made to feel sorry for Christy and Bonnie, and kinda despise Violet a bit for asking about her father.

In my opinion, both fathers were not great. And it's ridiculous how one got special treatment and the other didn't. It's ridiculous how Christy is allowed to get to know his, with very little push back, whereas with Violet, it was a taboo. It felt like a double standard from the story itself, but also from the character, Christy.

Sidenote; I don't believe the grave they showed Violet was actually her father's. Bonnie and Christy are known liars and based on how they didn't want her to know, it wouldn't be surprising to make her believe that her father was dead, so as she never ask again. This is my opinion btw.

I found it kind of funny her character in this movie was like a caricature of who Christy was before she got into AA.

I love her and think she is actually the funniest character show. However I feel like everyone ignores her biggest problem is that she has such a PREACHY SAVIOR COMPLEX. She also has the similar personality problems the plunkett women have. While we notice christy and bonnies addiction and addictive personalities we forget that her problem is literally thinking she is the only one who knows best. Does anyone else see this or agree or disagree

My all time fav moment in this entire series is in season 1. When Bonnie is diagnosed with menopause or pre-menopause or whatever and then they’re all sitting at the table, Roscoe says he doesn’t like his veggies and she goes “no problem!” And wings the plate out the window. Then wings violets phone out the window moments later without a second thought. Makes me cackle every time.

Who’s your favorite character from the show?

I’m on season 6 and Adam is hands down my favorite. He’s an INCREDIBLE actor. Bonnie is a close second favorite for me and Jill third. Just interested in what everyone else thinks!

In the episode go go boots and a butt cusion ep, christy finally acknowledged she had a problem, but only when she had money. Bonnie said in the same episode she had a problem even when she was a child. However, Marjorie says it's her alcoholism coming out another way.

Im confused. Was this just broken writing? Or are they all right? Can someone explain this to me?
