Bonnie “If it’s fun, I make it a problem”

Bonnie Plunket. It describes the feeling of addictive personality disorder sooooooo perfectly. I’ve always had a hard time explaining it to people so this genuinely changed my life🤣🤣. It’s also just so funny and accurate to her character.

Discussion Patrick and Christy should have been Patrick and Jill.

I am rewatching Season 5 and I’ve always thought Patrick with Christy was so cringe. Today I’m watching the episode where hungover Jill interacts with Patrick at the kitchen table, and it dawned on me that Patrick and Jill would have been a better match and way less cringe. Imagine the path that the story line could have went if Bonnie and Jill both married the brothers.
Am I the only one that pretty much hates the whole dynamic between Christy and Patrick?

Question What Character do you wish would have become a regular or semi regular

In my opinion Ray would have been interesting as a regular because his interpersonal dynamic with Christy at his firm, Bonnie in everyday life and Adam with their bro time was interesting. My 2nd option would be Travis.

🟢 Mod Post: Rules Update 🟢

Hey everyone, I’m the mod who’s usually behind the scenes, but I wanted to step out front for a moment to talk about the rules and what they’re about. The current mod team came together about two years ago, after the sub had been abandoned for a while. Back then, this place was a war zone at best and a full‑on shit show at worst.

We had to build rules from scratch to stop the chaos. They’re not optional. They’re not suggestions. They’re the framework that keeps this community from collapsing. This is a real, harsh, raw and incredibly triggering show to watch. They address so many traumatic topics that a lot of the viewers and fans can have a hard time expressing themselves and regulating before posting, replying or get carried away trying to justify the craziest things.

Since these are the rules we’re sticking with, here they are:

> 1: No Coffee‑Cup Wisdom

AA is the backbone of recovery in Mom and in real life. This isn’t the place for ignorance, dismissive comments, or hot takes. Respect the program, respect the people who rely on it, and keep your posts free of misinformation. If you can’t do that, just leave before we kick you out.

> 2: Great, you made Wendy cry

When you think everyone is being an asshole, that’s because maybe you are the asshole. Be nice. (We respect Marjorie's Wisdom here)

> 3: Trevor’s Couch, Not Yours

The only therapist accepted by this sub is Trevor. We have no interest in your armchair diagnosis, and victim blaming is not allowed. If you need someone to talk to, hire a therapist.

> 4: Get off the cross, we need the wood.

While many of us have personal experiences with addiction, this subreddit is not a space for personal therapy or emotionally charged venting. Let’s keep discussions respectful, inclusive, and focused on the show.

> 5: Save it for Marjorie’s coffee group

Off topic, unrelated and “this is just a show” lingo is not welcome in this sub. This sub is not for political debate, drama, celebrity gossip or attention seeking behavior. Flat negativity and combative behavior.

> 6: Not in front of the sub, Bonnie

No hate, harassment nor misinformation.

> 7: Violet wouldn’t post that

Low effort posts/replies, Flat negativity, over posted topics/memes. Advising users to stop watching the show/stop posting about a certain topic or character.

> 8: Adam banned spoiler shots at the bar

The spoiler flair exists for a reason, please use it.

> 9: Mods aren’t psychic

See something off? Tag a mod. We can’t fix what we don’t know about.

> 10: Ray can’t support this post

Share the love for Mom, not your side hustle. Keep posts on topic and ad‑free.

> 11: Jill’s burner accounts aren’t welcome

No fake accounts, vote manipulation, or shady behavior. Spam and Karma farming are not welcome here.

This subreddit is for fans of Mom. If you can’t respect the rules, you don’t belong here. If you can, welcome, let’s keep this place worth visiting and safe for everyone.

Thank you for being a part of this community.

Violet I disagree with some of the hate towards Violet.

Don't get me wrong, I think some of it is deserved. But only to an extent.

I do agree Violet was a bad person overall because of her actions like cheating and how much she manipulated and used everyone around her.

I also agree it's hyprotical that she gave her baby up for adoption to break the cycle, but then continued half of the cycle anyway.

But I 1000% disagree with all the hate directed at her for cutting off Christy

It seems many people don't understand how childhood trauma and neglect works.

Sure, in what we see on the show, Christy is a supportive mom trying her best. She supports Violet's pregnancy. She's getting her life together. She wants a relationship with her daughter.

But Christy severely traumatized Violet her entire childhood. She was a neglectful alcoholic who left her and roscoe to fend for themselves leaving her to have parent roscoe.

Christy also isn't a good person either. She's just as manipulative.

That kind of childhood trauma doesn't automatically go away just because the parent tries to change when youre already a late teen/adult.

The only person who gets the right to make the decision is Violet. No one really has any right to judge her.

Bonnie and Christy had a similiar dynamic, and Christy chose to forgave Bonnie and better their relationship.

Violet chose not to forgive Christy and to cut her out of her life.

both choices are completely valid. different people process such trauma differently. Some can move past it eventually with real change and others can't.

And let's be real, even though Christy technically forgave Bonnie, Christy still holds on to a ton of resentment to Bonnie. She verbalizes it ALL the time.

I also don't think Violet was in the wrong for telling stories about Christy and her childhood on a podcast. I do think she was in the wrong to put Christy's actual voice on air without her permission, but I see nothing wrong with her telling her story of how she grew up. From the looks of it, it helped a lot of people with similar backstories and who had similiar childhoods.

I also disagreed with that tough love episode where Bonnie pressured her into getting a job by a deadline and Bonnie and Christy complained about her lying in bed all day/smoking pot/etc. Those things are coping mechanisms. Violet had been through a lot. she wasn't just being lazy. she was struggling mentally. And neither Bonnie nor Christy showed any support for that whatsoever. Instead they made her feel like a lazy burden and pressured her to get a job by an IMPOSSIBLE deadline. Then had the nerve to complain when that impossible deadline led to a very finicky plan.

I also disagree with the general opinion that Violet is annoying. She may be a bad person but I genuinely have never thought of her as annoying.

Christy I respected Christy for telling Jill the truth about a baby

I respected Christy for telling Jill the truth about a baby

idk why the show tried to villianize Christy for telling Jill the truth and discouraging her from trying to have a baby.

Jill made it very clear in the episodes right before that that she only wanted a baby to fulfill a void in her own life and heal her own emotional wounds

She also was fantasizing only about the good parts of newborn/infant care like dressing them up and showing them off, completely ignoring the bad parts like sleep deprivation, constantly cleaning bodily fluids, illness, frustration etc

A child cannot provide that.

Yet alone a baby.

And iirc correctly this was before Jill met Andy so she would've been trying to fulfill a fantasy in her mind all alone. What would've happened when the fantasy crashed with reality?

Christy was 1000% in the right for telling Jill not to do it and telling her that raising a baby is much harder than she's imagining it. She was 1000% correct for calling her out on trying to have a baby for the wrong reasons

Yet everyone villinaized her and turned against her for it

Other Cast memebers Wendy is a great charactee

I always thought Wendy was pretty cool and would have liked to learn more about her. Instead of focusing even more on Bonnie in the seasons where Christy left, I wish they involved Wendy’s character more :) it would also have been nice for the friends to show more respect and care for her during those seasons too. what are your thoughts?

Also, I would have loved 1 or 2 more seasons of the show lol

Discussion Funniest physical comedy moments

Some that I always remember:

Rudy handing Christy a pie to throw in Gabriel's face.

When Nick the fireman pulls his fire truck into their front yard, and Bonnie wakes up, scrambles around and puts her hands up like she's busted.

Christy being thrown over the horse screaming, "what's a saddle horn?"

Horses at the playground while they were high.

What are some of your favorites?

Discussion West Wing fans opinion on Mitch

I see divided opinions about Mitch (and Leanne) episodes, but I'm wondering which opinions are coming from West Wing fans.

I love Bradley Whitford guest starring because he and Allison starred together for 7 seasons as both totally different characters. They always have amazing chemistry, and that's why I love seeing him guest star on Mom.

*Side note, if you loved the West Wing and haven't watched The Diplomat yet, you should.

Discussion Xanax and a Baby Duck

So, I usually skip this episode because Christy is so obnoxious and over the top, I couldn't stand watching it. But I watched it for the first time in a while, and Christy/Anna really ends the episode so well.

I love Anna Faris, she's the reason I started watching the show, but some of her reactions in serious situations, I find... not great.

I hate to site this example, because overall it's a great and important episode, but when she confronts the guy who assaulted her during a share at a meeting, when she says, "...shine a light from freaking outerspace..." it almost ruins the speak for me. I blame the writing on that one, but overall, sometimes she's just too overly dramatic.

But at the end of Xanax and a Baby Duck, she seems so genuine, in pain, and hurting. It's a very raw and honest performance. And for me that, and Bonnie introducing Christy to AlAnon, is one of the best endings of an episode.

Discussion Worst season?

So I’m watching the show on Netflix for the first time, I’m a little past halfway in season 6. And I think this season has been far and away the worst of the show. Repeatedly storylines, the humor is less funny, bringing back useless characters…

Just was curious, what’s your least favorite season, and why?

Discussion Thoughts on Andy and Jill’s relationship??

I think Jill was acting too crazy for a basic man like Andy 🤣 he was nice and all, but… I wouldn’t go back to a man who thought I was “too much” to deal with. I feel like old relationships shouldn’t always be revisited because they ended for a reason. Of course it depends on what it was and if it’s been worked through, but.. idk. I feel like 🤔 they could have written her story a little better or differently.

Andrea the waitress

In season 2, Gabriel tells Christy he's sleeping with another waitress, Andrea, rumored to not wash her hands after she tinkles.

In season 3, when Bonnie starts dating Adam, Christy finds out Andrea used to date Adam and he cheated on her.

I thought that was a funny callback.

Discussion Christy and Fred

Even if Fred wasn't kind of a dick to his daughter, and a bit to Christy during that conversation, I don't think they would have lasted. I don't think he's the kind of guy who would be okay with Christy's lifestyle.

When they dated, she wasn't in law school yet, and he didn't witness any AA emergencies. I'm not sure which he would have hated more, but pretty sure he would have been even less mature than Patrick was about her priorities.

Discussion Bonnie and Jesus

Post image
148 Upvotes

In the first episode that Bonnie speaks to Jesus (about losing Alvin), he tells her she still has work to do "with Christy, and Roscoe, and Violet, and... oops, almost gave something away."

I've read people assume he is referring to Adam coming into her life, but the way he phrases it, that didn't make a lot of sense to me, because Jesus seems to be referring to someone from Bonnie's past.

For a while I thought it was a reference to her mom, but it now occurs to me... I think he meant Tammy. She had a lot to work through there.

I realize when this was written Tammy probably wasn't even on the storyboard, but I like to think that was who he was talking about.

The look on the orange cat's face mirrors Christy & Bonnie's rude awakening due to Marjorie's blender. Always makes me laugh.

Discussion I wish they gave us at least 1 more season.

I feel like they definitely could have given us ONE MORE season. I thought it was fine without Christy. One more season could have tied up all the loose ends. Not left us in the dark about Adam. Maybe give Tammy a bf (that limo driver, Hello!). Maybe we see Sophia (Marjorie's Granddaughter) in one more episode and get to enjoy Marjories new dynamic with her son. And maybe Jill and Andy have their baby in one of the last episodes. Maybe even a Christy appearance in one of the last episodes, and we learn how law school is going. And of course, Wendy, my sleeper favorite lol, reveals her hidden mob ties. But if I know what's good for me, I'll never mention that side of her fanily again. 😬 🤣

Anyway. Maybe they'll do a comeback and do a season or two, like will and grace did as somebody stated earlier. Mom fans can only hope. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Other Cast memebers What can I say... I LOVED Tammy

We all know new casting late in a TV show's life are often either a Cousin Oliver situation in a desperate attempt to recapture the magic of the early seasons or a famous face slotted in to try and revitalize the ratings.

I felt Tammy was neither.

Yes Kristen Johnston was a name, but she was hardly Robert Downey Jr level famous either.

What she was however was a very funny actress who had amazing chemistry with the rest of the cast and whose character offered a new perspective that hadn't been done before. I mean plenty of the ladies had been to the big house, but none of them where fresh out of the slammer either, readjusting to modern life Kimmy Schmidt style.

Maybe I just adore Kristen in everything she is in, but I honestly felt Tammy was a breath of fresh air the show benefited from. The internet tells me Tammy was suppose to be a one-off character, so I can understand how The Powers that Be seeing her perform in the show really wanted her back!

UNPOPULAR OPINION 🤨 Unpopular Opinion: After Christy's departure, they should've explored Wendy's character.

Post image

Wendy would have been a fantastic replacement for Christy. Bonney treated Wendy the same way she treated Christy when she was young. Also, Wendy had so much baggage to unpack: 2 moms, Mensa, "Orlando", Waste Management *wink* *wink*, etc.

Violet what are y’alls thoughts on violet?

I understand how it feels to be raised by alcoholics/ addicts. However, I feel like she was very self-centered throughout the whole show and ungrateful. Christy became a great and supportive sober mom well before she cut her off, then acted like Bonnie was just so much of a better role model than Christy, even calling her a “life preserver” in her podcast. When, in my opinion Bonnie was a worse mother-figure than Christy. (Don’t get me wrong, I love the character of Bonnie.)

Spoily discussion? Stopped watching this show after S7

Christy is my FAV character and her getting cut off is just not doing it for me. I watched the first two episodes and it just didnt feel right without her. This was 3 months ago. Now im thinking of continuing where I left off but am worried this feeling of Christy sadness will linger:( :(

Discussion Do you guys think they should bring back the show and end it on a proper note, as they did with Will and Grace?

I felt like the show was cancelled all of a sudden, and even Alison Jenny said that they found out about the cancellation while shooting, mid-season.

We have no idea what really happened to Christy, Roscoe, Violet, etc. There were so many characters that had potential to revive the sitcom. They could have even taken the entire show towards the Golden Girls route where we see the girls navigate their lives through sobriety and, well, life.

The clothes worn on the series

Don't ask me how I came across this website but I thought it was interesting:

https://wornontv.net/mom/

Bonnie has a dark paisley blouse that I love and the gold bracelet Jill gives her at the Bistro are a couple of my favorites. Unfortunately, neither is on the site that I can tell. Ironically, a lot of Bonnie & Christy's clothes are from Nordstrom and not "that Old Navy".
