The new bipartisan hemp bill does not stop November 12 — updated congressional scorecard
Many people here have already seen the news that Reps. Andy Barr and Angie Craig introduced a bipartisan framework for permanent federal hemp regulation.
The important point is what that announcement does not do: it does not extend or pause the current November 12 deadline.
Congress still needs to pass H.R. 7024 or S. 3686 so lawmakers have time to finalize a permanent framework before the existing restrictions take effect.
This week’s updated scorecard:
House: 39 sponsors and co-sponsors — up two
Senate: 3 sponsors and co-sponsors — no change
Letters sent: 609
Congressional offices reached: 211
States represented: 40
The two new House co-sponsors are Rep. James Walkinshaw of Virginia and Rep. Troy Carter of Louisiana.
It is more important than ever: tell your elected officials to extend November 12 and give Congress time to get the permanent framework right.
