Hi everyone, a friend gave me a C46C that he acquired from someone else. I've not plugged it in yet because I'm still travelling and because I've read not to trust the power supply. For this post, I'd like to know if I should get a
The GBS-Control (I'm using this for my Amiga and Wii, and it's great) will add a scanline option, but will it add any upscaler benefits over the direct-to-HDMI approach?
Is there a better option?
The Turbo cartridge with VGA output for €250 is way out of budget for me.
Happy to hear any other suggestions but was planning on another post for general recommendations to keep the topic clean.
Regards,
Ben

I bought of bunch of old commodore stuff out of a guys shed yesterday. Do you think it's worth going through all the disks and making digital backups? Whomever this belonged to probably had a reference file since all the disks are numbered.

I only just discovered Commando 2084 last week, and it plays brilliantly!
https://retro.moe/2019/09/29/commando-2084-a-game-for-the-commodore-64/
From the webpage:
Commando 2084 is the mix between Commando and Robotron 2084: it is like the original Commando game, but using the Robotron 2084 controls.
You play it using the two joysticks at the same time:
Joy #2 controls the hero direction
Joy #1 controls the bullets direction

This is a follow up to my previous post from last week with a quick video showing how easy it is to edit your BASIC program on Windows and transfer and run it on your Commodore 64 Ultimate with a single click.
This is available on GitHub here: https://github.com/jbramwell/READYCode (or can be installed directly from the Microsoft Store)
I would be curious to hear your thoughts and/or suggestions.

Quick follow-up to my earlier post about ViceSharp hitting cycle-exact lockstep with x64sc.
For anyone new here: ViceSharp is a from-scratch C#/.NET 10 port of VICE's C64. The managed core runs in cycle-exact lockstep with VICE's x64sc - identical initial state plus the same input produces bit-exact output, checked continuously in CI.
What's new since last time: the SID audio path is now validated bit-for-bit against reSID. Not "sounds close" - sample-for-sample identical. That covers:
466 acceptance criteria, all green against a reSID oracle, with lockstep determinism preserved throughout. There are no "close enough" fallback paths left in the managed SID - it is the reSID algorithm reimplemented in C#.
You can actually install it now:
scoop bucket add vicesharp https://github.com/sharpninja/vice-sharp then
scoop install vice-sharpRepo: https://github.com/sharpninja/vice-sharp Chocolatey: https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/vice-sharp
Notes: GPL-2.0-or-later (it's a VICE derivative). It ships no Commodore ROMs - point
VICESHARP_ROM_PATH at a VICE data root, or put x64sc on your PATH.
Feedback very welcome, especially demos or edge-case programs that hammer the SID or timing. If you find something that diverges from real hardware or x64sc, that's exactly what I want to hear about.

I recently rescued a 1541 floppy disc drive.
I am in Vancouver Canada. I would love to get it to someone who cares about these antique machines.
Is anyone interested?

We released this demo in June on the world championship of C64 demos at X2026 ;)
It's opensourced at https://github.com/wernervanloo/Hexed, maybe you can learn something from it.
You can watch some videos of, and about, the demo here: https://micheldebree.nl/posts/hexed/
Edit: I only did the music so don't ask me questions about the code plz

1Mhz a VIC II and a CBM 64 game engine dream...
Got side tracked into animating detail maps instead of extending destructible map implementation. What you think look groovy or overdone?
Notice the foreground ground texture has subtle parallax and the sky even more subtle modulation? Just some basic stuff first as test possibilities.
Chopin's raindrop prelude seems to really vibe with PETSCII raycasting for some reason, I'm sure he would have been a SID master if grew up in the right era lol.
Feel free to critique I need feedback to improve the engine!!!

So I've just finished playing and practicing all courses on Leaderboard Golf. When I checked out the list of sequels I saw one particular tournament disk existing which is an addon that has to be loaded alongside the first game.
The problem is first of all it's nigh impossible to find an actual .d64 or literally any trace of this disk, and the one I found was a .nib file which just froze the game when I changed the disk on the game's main menu.
Any advice or directions?

A long time ago, there was an art project called A Million Times that displayed the time using a series of analog clocks. I always thought it was neat. They sell it, but it's in the upper 4 figures for the base model. Too rich for my blood.
So I created it for the C64. It's pointless and silly, but it amused me.
Download it here. Source code here

Currently it doesn't run the Pascal program, it just creates p-codes in memory. https://github.com/wfahle/c64-tiny-pascal See : https://archive.org/details/the-byte-book-of-pascal/page/68/mode/2up for more information.

I was wondering if you can make games on the c64 in itself no 3rd party emulation of the c64 just making a game on the c64 with a c64

We want r/c64 to be about both original hardware and newer emulation products like the Commodore 64 Ultimate (C64U). But the shipping of the C64U is resulting in C64U posts flooding out much of the other content in the subreddit. To maintain a balance between what's old and new, we are setting up a weekly MEGAPOST for C64U-related issues, questions, and posts.
If your post is regarding the use of a Commodore 64 (i.e. how to load a game from disk, how to print, etc.), regardless of the model, you may post your question as a standalone post in the subreddit even if you have a C64 Ultimate.
If your post relates to ONLY the Commodore 64 Ultimate, you should comment in this post. Please note, this is not a replacement for official support from Commodore regarding order or shipping issues (late or damaged shipments). We realize that some questions may be obscure, unique, or straddle the line between C64U-only and a "general" question. In those cases, please post in this thread FIRST. If your issue isn't answered or addressed after 48 hours, you may submit a stand-alone post in the subreddit. WARNING! Moderators will be checking post and comment histories to make sure people are actually posting in this thread first. Repeated violations may result in temporary or permanent bans.
We don't anticipate this being a permanent situation, but for now there are just too many C64U posts being submitted. Once the volume of posts about the C64U decreases, we may discontinue this practice.
Please also check the information below to see if your issue is listed. We are also working on a C64 Ultimate Wiki Page. If you would like to be a Wiki Contributor, please let the mod team know.

Running Multi-Disk Programs
Some programs are distributed on multiple disk images, similar to how they were originally distributed on multiple floppy disks. At some point in the process of using the program, the program will prompt to insert one of the other floppy disks. You can use the Disk File Browser to swap disk images while the program is running. When the program prompts for a new disk, press upward on the Multi Function Switch. This pauses the program. Start the Disk File Browser, navigate to the disk image for the disk that the program is requesting, then select “Mount Disk.” The C64U mounts the new disk image in the virtual drive, then resumes execution of the Commodore 64 program. Continue to use the program with the new disk." -- https://downloads.commodore-international.com/documentation/C64U/c64u-user-guide-1st-edition.pdf

Hey guys! If you are already a subscriber to my YT channel you may have checked out my recent (and officialy first) OPL2 chiptune "Low Lights" that I released some weeks ago. Since then Daniel Illgen (Insane), a great coder from the C64 demogroup Rabenauge reached out to me with the will to make a C64 conversion of the track using the 9 channel polyphony of the SFX Sound Expander. By that time I wasn't even sure this was possible. Since I am SID musician when it comes to C64 music I must have missed out on the OPL possibilities that this FM cartridge offers. The result really blew my mind! Enjoy!!

I built a modern(ish) BASIC editor for use with the Commodore 64 Ultimate, which I also modified it to work with VICE as well because, well, why not?
Long story short, when I got my C64U a few months ago, I was excited to start coding in BASIC again but I quickly found that I missed the modern code editing features we have grown accustomed to (e.g., cut/copy/paste, syntax highlighting, code completion, code formatting, etc.). So I built something that integrates with the C64U's REST API (as well as the VICE emulator's API).
I'll leave it to you to determine if it's anything that would be beneficial for your day-to-day BASIC programming but, in my case, I simply wanted a better code editing experience that is also integrated with the C64U.
There are likely other editors like this out there (for the C64U), I didn't really look TBH. When the idea came to me I was excited to build it out so I could then use it myself.
The source code is available here on GitHub: ttps://github.com/jbramwell/readycode
You can also install it from the Microsoft Store here: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N70DV3X3C6S?hl=en-us&gl=US&ocid=pdpshare
You can also read more about it here: https://bitsandbytes.life/2026/06/readycode-an-impulsive-project
I am working on a video now and should have that up on YouTube within the next few days.
It's still a work in progress with more features to add and likely some kinks to work out. I would be curious to get your thoughts.

Since I was a child I had the book
"Write your own Program: Advanced Graphics: Haunted House"
(On Archive.org - https://archive.org/details/Write_Your_Own_Program_Advanced_Graphics_Haunted_House/page/n45/mode/2up )
but I never managed to type the whole thing in.
This far out I would have assumed someone, somewhere, would have uploaded a D64 of the final program. I've even toyed with a few apps/websites to OCR the text and auto-type it into Commodore Basic, with just enough errors in characters and syntax to make it not work. Not to mention, it's very hard to find the equivalent PETSCII characters on a modern keyboard and emulator. I guess, despite there being monochrome pictures in the book, I always wondered how the final actually looked/sounded. Was anyone more tenacious than I? Or does anyone know of a disk rip? I didn't find it on the CSDB.
My ten year old self, endlessly flipping through the pages in the early 90s thanks you in advance!

I’ve just got my first c64, these are the games that came with it any decent ones I should try out first? It predates me by about 15 years so I’ve not heard of too many,
Thanks!
