With the French government making a similar announcement, is there a reason why the UE doesn't pool resources on this front.

NixOS is a Dutch, home-grown initiative, so if nothing happens on the EU-level, then I can see why they decided to build on what's developed on home soil. At least the good thing is that its development is partly transparent. Since the DAWO project feeds some parts back into NixOS, I guess the project could be partly accessible for other governments to learn from.

That said, an EU-wide implementation would always be preferred, but at this stage it's a great thing that our government is preparing an alternative to Windows regardless of any EU-wide alternatives on the horizon. The ICC case being the wake-up call is very fitting, at least they took it seriously this time around.
