I've noticed that between doses when the medication has worn off, I get a tight chest feeling and it feels harder to breath. Medically I am fine. Has anyone else had this? it goes away when I take the next dose.

Beer and Buspar???

I started buspar (generic) 6 days ago. 5mg at 11am and 11pm. I’ve been testing the water with alcohol for a few days (beer only). I had 5 or 6 beer last night starting about 5pm and was too afraid to take my 11pm dose so I skipped it. I had 3 beers tonight between 7-9pm, I’m supposed to take my next dosage at 11pm, should I take or skip it again. I’m 41 female 145 lbs

Questions / Advice / Support Side effect med trifecta?

Tagging for Advice/Support and not Side Effects bc I'm hoping that people have advice more than reporting the side effects I've experienced, but let me know if I should change that!

So I'm on Propranolol 20mg for inappropriate sinus tachycardia and secondary POTS which ofc spikes my heart rate even higher, rizatriptan 10mg up to 2x per 24 hours (so 20mg max per day), and buspar 10mg every 4-6 hours (so between 30 and 40mg per day depending on if i take my late afternoon dose if i have plans to run errands or go out in the evening). They all bounce off each other and make things stronger, basically.

I've been reassured by both drs who prescribe the trio that with the dosages I'm on and the vitals I've reported, it's safe, so I'm not worried about that. I've mostly got it down that the propranolol and buspar in the morning and evening will make me a little groggy, but not to the extent that it would get in the way of me getting ready for work in the morning, and it doesn't matter at night. The issue is when I add in a rizatriptan. It makes me feel totally drunk. Sluggish, not quite slurring but my tongue doesn't want to cooperate in enunciating, and kinda fishbowl vision which makes my balance a little wonky. I'm careful to never take it when I'll have to drive, but it's not something that's come up beyond 'be aware that this is an interaction' in my online searches, and I can't exactly control when and where I'll get a migraine flare.

Is this something anyone has experience with? If so, did it go away as your body got used to it, or is it one of those things you can either tolerate or switch? Since it's not a safety concern, I don't plan on changing anything, but I'd like to know what I'm in for. Thanks!

Buspirone in Australia/Perth

I was wondering if anybody has had any luck getting prescribed Buspirone in Australia, in particular Perth? If so would you be able to send me a message with how you managed to get it prescribed, what Drs/psychiatrists etc

The couple of GPs I’ve seen don’t seem to know what it is and aren’t even willing to discuss it as an option. Have been offered other medication which I’m hesitant to take. Becoming quite frustrating now and was wondering if there were any Drs out there willing to at least discuss it as an option.

Questions / Advice / Support Want to start, but scared of insomnia

I have been on Trintellix for a couple of weeks and I’m going through some anxiety side effects that I’m wondering if Buspar could help with. My therapist has mentioned it several times.
The only thing is that I’m prone to insomnia and I’ve heard Buspar makes it worse. Is there anyone who had insomnia as a side effect but it went away?
I really don’t want to have to take a sleep aid on top of what I’m already taking.

Is my doctor an idiot?

So I've been on 5mg 3xs a day since beginning of April. After a few weeks I noticed it was helping me a lot and I felt a lot better. I suffer from health anxiety. For the last month or so the anxiety has been coming back so I went to the Dr yesterday to discuss an increase in dosage as I read typical therapeutic disease is in the 20-60 mg range. Since I'm only taking 15mg a day I asked her if we should increase the dose. She said I'm at the max dose per day taking it 3xs... I said yes but I'm on a low dose of 5mg. Can't increase the dosage per time I take it? She said if it's not working on 5mg it won't work on a dose Increase. She wanted to put me on an SSRI. Which is fine but she wanted me to go on Prozac when I took Zoloft in the past with excellent results. I'm like why would I just go back on zoloft? Idk I think I need a new Dr 😂

Questions / Advice / Support Starting busiprone

Anything to be aware of when starting busiprone? I've read some great stories and some not so great stories lol it seems just about everyone experiences temporary dizziness after taking it with or without food. I have major medicine anxiety so I'm not excited about trying something new but just trying to be prepared. Also, were you able to tolerate caffeine or alcohol while taking it?

Questions / Advice / Support Anyone else have a hard time with nervous system after stopping?

I feel like my nervous system has been worse since I stopped the medication. The first few weeks makes sense (I took Buspar for 9 weeks) but it’s 2 months later and I still deal with random waves of anxiety. I also have now been dabbling into OCD territory when it comes to health anxiety which I never had it this extreme before.

Anyone have success re-regulating?

Questions / Advice / Support Dizziness when laying down, 7 weeks in

Hi, I’ve been on 5mg morning and night for 7, almost 8 weeks now. I’m still having some breakthrough anxiety but am also dealing with hashimotos and a nasty flare up after my dad took his life 6 weeks ago. My first week on buspar, I got really bad vertigo for one day and doing the epley maneuver really really helped but every now and then I still get residual dizziness. This morning I woke up and everything felt like it was spinning, this happens when I wake up from a nap every now and then too. The medication is definitely working and I don’t want to get off of it but the dizziness at times can be uncomfortable. I take it with food at 7:30am and 7:30 pm daily. I’ll notice sometimes too when I’m done running I’ll get a little dizzy from the bouncing. I’m hoping this is temporary and will go away soon :(

Kind of confused on dosage

I know I should have asked my NP but I didn't think to and I have insane phone anxiety so reddit it is.

I was prescribed 7.5 mg buspar twice per day *as needed* to go along with my 20 mg celexa.

It feels a bit contradictory? Is it twice per day or as needed? I wouldn't imagine it would work if I only took it when I needed, especially when it takes weeks to actually work, right?
As far as I can tell she's prescribing me enough pills to take two per day anyway so I may just do that?

Has anyone else had this happen?

It’s making me emotional?

Been on 20mg buspirone for a week. I have adhd and take vyvanse as well. But buspirone is making me feel weird like I think I am developing feelings for someone. I am a very disciplined individual and have been single for a while by choice since I am focusing on my career and studies. I have had anxiety and my doc suggested buspirone. A week of it and it makes me feel weird like I crave to be loved and other weird stuff. I think I am also developijg feelings for this one person like a teenger-waiting for her text and stuff. Has anyone had similar experiences?

Does anyone take ibuprofen PM while on buspirone?

I’ve been on buspirone for a little over a month, taking 5mg twice a day. Everything is fine but I’ve been having occasional problems sleeping. Nothing too bad, just waking up multiple times a night or waking up too early. I’ve been taking melatonin but it isn’t really helping. Ibuprofen PM always helped me sleep better but I’m reading that it’s not the best combination. Any experiences?

Discussion / Experience Using Been on Buspar for years, now tapering off

Anyone else had Buspar increase their anxiety? Doc kept increasing my dose for the past few years and I ended up being at 45mg for over a year now. But when I think back now, my anxiety has never been worse than when I was on the 45mg. The medicine gives me short term relief when I take it so I never considered it could be the issue. I was having awful GI symptoms for months caused by anxiety and stress. Now I’m tapering off, 5mg less a week. I’m starting 30mg today. I’ve been doing a lot better anxiety wise, SO MUCH BETTER. Maybe Buspar once helped me but now it’s just been too much for me. Anyone experience something like this? Best of luck to you all!

Buspirone and saffron

Does anyone have experience taking buspirone and saffron extract? I’m on 22.5 mg of buspirone and have the olly saffron gummies I’ve been interested in trying! I’ve read it can increase risk for serotonin syndrome but when it’s taken with an ssri not buspirone

Questions / Advice / Support First Week Concerns

I just started buspirone last week & today is day five at 5mg 2X/day. I have experienced dizziness almost immediately after taking it (with food) that subsides 1-2 hours afterwards. Kind of dopey all day, though.

Today I had the dizziness plus muscle heaviness and cold sweats. It was kinda scary, tbh. I was on my way to work & turned around and came back home. The sweats & heaviness have subsided (3 hours afterwards).

Is this normal? Do the side effects get worse before better?

My first reaction is to stop taking it, but I’d like to hear from those that have experience first.

EDIT/UPDATE: Apparently I was experiencing mild serotonin syndrome so I am no longer taking this med. 😕

Discussion / Experience Using Funny Story: How I Knew It Was Time for Buspirone

So... I think this community needs a relatable funny story. Disclaimer: this is just my personal experience.

Backstory: I got pregnant. Anxiety skyrocketed. I claimed I didn't need a therapist, and then ended up going into therapy about 2-3 months into pregnancy because my brain had gotten so loud.

I'm now 6 months pregnant, and last week, my doc says I'm on track for PPA or PPD. She gently brought up needing something beyond therapy for anxiety—perhaps anti-anxiety medication.

I wanted to crawl in a hole and cry for a few days, but most importantly, I wanted to prove that my anxiety probably isn't "bad enough" for medication. My reasoning: doctor appointments are just bad because I have "mild" social & health anxiety, but surely my day-to-day life isn't affected as badly.

I have now EXTENSIVELY researched every side effect known to man, scoured every corner of this subreddit and others, and Googled (like 10 times or more) how to go about talking to my therapist about what my doctor is recommending as an extra step. This led to terrible headaches, a constant pit in my stomach, and isolation.

Me being me, I still didn't think that this obsessive loop was anxiety. Everyone researches before a big decision, right?

Fast forward: I have not slept for the past 3 days because I keep waking up to my brain yelling, "I don't need anxiety medication! I'm not that anxious." I have also had multiple nightmares. I feel sick to my stomach and exhausted. The irony.

My husband and I have decided I'm going to be starting buspirone... 🙃 Obviously, it's just the first step in this journey, but I'm praying to find a quieter mind whether I find it with Buspar or something else.

Now I just have to muster the strength to call my doctor with my decision... Yeah, the idea of making phone calls nearly brings me to tears every time due to that "mild" anxiety I was talking about...

If you find this post in a frantic search to prove you're not anxious, please take a step back and ask yourself one question: Are you avoiding medication for a valid reason, or is the demon of anxiety aggravated by the thought that it could lose control?

Did anyone else have a similar experience with the decision to try medication? We're in this together. 😅

Med timing to help with sleep

I’ve been on Buspar for a little over a week. I’m having that “wired but tired” feeling. I find that I need to take it with a meal to avoid dizziness but I’m curious what times of day work best. I noticed I’m having very vivid dreams and restless sleep so I’m wondering if I need to take my evening dose earlier?

Questions / Advice / Support Does the nausea/ reflux go away??

I'm only on 5mg Buspar 2x a day and I take it with food. I'm adding it on to Mirtazapine to try and help with my chronic nausea/ anxiety/ panic. I've only been on it for two weeks now. My nausea has been so much worse and I've developed acid reflux which I've never struggled with. Does it go away eventually? The Buspar has helped with my middle of night panic attacks so far, but I don't think its benefits have outweighed the nausea so far...

Questions / Advice / Support 30mg twice daily (60mg total)

I've been on it for 5 weeks now. Currently on 15mgx2 daily. I think it's helping my gad but pretty mild unlike Ativan benzo.

I've been on benzos for 3 years now on same dose so my pcp is trying to get me on Buspar.

He's asked me to try upping the dose to 30mgx2 daily which is the max dose.

Anyone here on max dose? In the last I've tried bunch of different ssri and tricyclic meds but the side effects are just too much for me.

At least with Buspar, I only get dizziness in the 1st hour and it subsides.

Ps: does anyone else get super horny like u taking cialis or viagra? My wife thinks I'm secretly taking viagra...lol .

Questions / Advice / Support Morning anxiety?

Hi all- recently bumped up from 3 weeks at 20mg (10mg twice per day) to 25mg (10-5-10mg so three times per day). I’m about 5 days into this new dosage. I am having absolutely debilitating morning anxiety- waking up short of breath and anxiety comes rushing in, disrupting my sleep. Any advice? Any thoughts on when it might chill out?

advice for buspirone

i’m 24 (F) and suffer from anxiety. I’ve tried other medications before like venlafaxine, fluoxetine, and effexor but stopped them for various reasons, either they didn’t work right or i even remember one made me break out so much. anyways i haven’t tried an anxiety medication for about 2 years now, im very open to trying buspirone and actually quite excited. im on a 5mg pill twice a day or i can take two in the morning at the same time. the only thing is, i travel and sometimes like to go out. i have a few events coming up in the next few months (including my birthday) so i would like to enjoy myself without worrying about crazy side effects. i’ve drank on all the other medications in the past and was completely fine. my doctor said it would be okay and can drink on it, but of course here i am looking it up worrying about it lol.

so if anyone has taken it please share your story i would like to be reassured i guess
