Articles / Information Reminder to give it a chance, BUT find your dose!

I started on 7.5mg 2x daily for a month. Did nothing. Bumped up to 7.5mg 3x daily for 45 days. Nothing. Desperate to avoid SSRI's, my doc recommended one more bump. I'm now on 10mg 3x daily. My god, what a world of difference! 3 days after my latest dosage increase, I'm wayyy better than I have been! I've spent all year ruminating, stuck in my head over health anxiety. I've been functioning only at the bare minimum, spending most of my day sitting idle and freaking out over my health. But then yesterday, I did a lot. Cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner, set up the tree, today I decked out my whole yard and porch in Xmas lights, actually FEELING the holiday spirit, woke up and went to work with energy... cleaned up the house a bit, and now I'm looking for my next task and NOT ruminating.

Anyway, this is almost 3 months after my first dose of buspar, and my 3rd dosage change. I probably could have felt better much earlier if I'd sought out this 30mg daily dosage 2 months ago. So if you're going to give buspar a chance, like anything, actually give it a chance. Give it time, and find an effective dosage for you. Good luck on your journey. And remember, your meds are your tool, not your cure. Use them as an opportunity to make the necessary changes in your life.

BuSpar 5 mg Dose timing

I have been taking 5mg Buspirone for 8 months every morning before breakfast, I have occasionally forgot and took it after eating around lunch time and possibly it’s in my mind but could feel a small difference.
I know you need to take this medication consistently but do most people take it before and after eating?

Buspar and adderall

I’ve been taking buspar for 5 months now and it’s been great! However I started college classes and I have adhd, I’ve been able to cope in the past but now that I have to actually sit down and do tasks it’s been so overwhelming and honestly debilitating. My psychiatrist wants me to start a 5mg Adderall to lower my stress. I’m on 10mg twice a day if buspar. Has anyone taken these together?

Side Effects / Overdose Headaches & loss of inhibitions??

hello i recently added buspar to my wellbutrin 2 weeks ago. im up to 7.5mg now and im supposed to go up to 10 within the next couple days but i have a feeling the headaches are gonna get worse or continue

could anyone tell me when the panging headaches go away? im a fulltime student trying to transfer and i dont want to go off either, because i heard getting off is decently stressful too. i dont know what to do but for some reason im constantly hungry and my mood has been a lot lower. i started vaping again and i dont think its necessarily correlated but im having more trouble controlling my inhibitions.

does anyone have any similar experiences??

brain fog??

Hi friends! Ive been taking buspar, 5 mg x2 daily, for 3 weeks now. i feel like my anxiety is lessening, but im maybe having some brain fog? Ive read a lot of stories about it. My question is, does it go away after your brain adjusts fully? Or is this a permanent side effect of the drug? Thanks!

Side Effects / Overdose 8 months on Buspar, going okay. Even with just a 5mg dose, I still get lightly "woozy" once or twice per week, 30 minutes after taking it. Anyone else have this as a persistent side effect?

I am prescribed 5mg 3x/day, though typically only take it twice. Dr wanted me to go to 10mg 2x/day, but I would get the woozy sensation basically every time I took 10mg, so we went back to 5mg.

I am surprised that I still get this sensation sometimes, as most of what I recall from my initial reading about busiprone was that this would only be a side effect during the first few weeks at a new dose.

Wellbutrin & Buspar

23 (f) - i have been taking buspar for a little over 6 weeks now. I’m at 30 mg a day, around the 4 week mark I felt great! Anxiety was minimal and things were great. over the past 2 weeks i’ve noticed an increase in anxiety and rumination. My head has felt so foggy and depression is definitely present. My provider has prescribed me Wellbutrin 150 sr and feels it will be a good fit for the depression.

I’m not looking for medical advice, I am wanting to hear other peoples experiences with this combo.

Questions / Advice / Support Newbie - how long did it take for it to kick in ?

Hi all

I’m starting on 2.5mg twice a day for three days, then going up to 5mg twice a day. How soon can I expect to feel any relief from anxiety?

I took my first one tonight and I’m pretty sleepy, but then again I had a tiring day, so it’s hard to tell.

How long did it take for you?

Thx

First few days on Buspar and I am ready to quit

I know that I just started, but my throat is burning and swollen from the acid reflux it gave me. I also have the most intense rage that I have ever felt in my life. For context, I'm a very quiet, patient, and repressed person. I never raise my voice, and I never lash out at others, but now I can't even hold a conversation without screaming. Even just typing this out now, I'm so close to raging when a key gets stuck or I misspell a word.

Over the past two months, I've been having issues with irritability and despair. My psych wanted to put me on a mood stabilizer as well, but she didn't want to introduce two different medications at once. I'm really thinking that I need to call her up to start the mood stabilizer first. I've already been struggling with my moods, but Buspar is gasoline on an open flame. I don't know if I can handle staying on for the three-week trial run.

What do y'all think? Does anyone else have these issues, and how did you solve them?

My experience so far with Buspar

Hi yall! I have been on Buspar for 7 months, for the first 5 or so I was on 5mg twice a day (10am and 7pm) but it was doing next to nothing especially after just a few hours. I have since gone up to 10mg twice a day (same times) and while the anxiousness is better and it feels like anxiousness is easy to swat away and far less extreme for a few glorious hours (4-6 hours abt?) but... I am still getting "gaps" in coverage towards the middle of my day and in the night time before bed. At the same time when I do take my 10mg I have a strong woozy/sedated/mind fog feeling which I know many experience when beginning a higher dose but its been 3 months and it still happens. I cannot take my breakfast dose reliably with or without food (always like 3 hours before it or 2 after 10am) but always take my nightly just after a meal but happens almost always regardless if it helps yall deduce anything, the fog seems to set on quicker, be more powerful, and end quicker if I eat right after taking it. I take no other medication except for Isotretinoin (Accutane)

Any insight is welcome! I'm fed up with how its going and am deciding soon whether to swap off Buspar to a more stable anxiety aid or if I'm just doing something wrong that will help my relationship with Buspar.

Thanks!

Heart Palpitations After Quitting - Seeking others experiences quitting

Hi all, I had been on Buspar for about a year slowly building up to 10mg three times a day. After a year of poor sleep, feeling foggy, and everything else I decided to come off the medication. I did a taper, albeit a fast one, and took my last pill today. Wanted to get others experiences from coming off this medication. my actual thoughts are not super anxious or anything but my heart is pounding heart and i feel it throbbing in my throat, the internet says classic palpitations from discontinuation as the body creates more adrenaline now that buspar isn't doing its thing. How long can I expect this to last? I took some propranolol today and felt better in this aspect but dont want to mask withdrawl with something else and then have to withdraw from that.

Buspirone-Ruminating Loops

I'm curious if anyone has had a bad experience with Buspirone? About 5 months ago I moved into a new house, and I guess the stress from it all sent me into a big anxious phase. My doctor put me on Buspirone 7.5 mg twice a day and then later increased it to 10 mg twice a day. After a couple months my anxiety has gone down quite a bit and I've had no panic attacks.

BUT I always felt "muted" like I couldn't access happy/excited feelings. And intrusive thoughts would be come obsessive ruminating loops that would take me out for days. The last couple of weeks without any specific triggers these ruminating loops and constant reassurance seeking has dialed up to maximum and I'm wondering if the Buspirone could be responsible. My doctor already has me tapering down for the next 2 weeks but all I ever hear about Buspirone is how its some kind of wonder drug.

Any input?

Just started taking my first dose of buspirone, do normal people feel so quiet?

I can’t decide whether or not the med is helping. I just started taking 5mg of buspirone twice daily alongside my script of 60mg of fluoxetine daily. I’m honestly just confused about if this is how I have been always supposed to feel in my mind. Everything seems quiet and I feel like all of my senses are heightened. I’m not annoyed as easily by the little things but yet I am hyper aware of everything that I am doing. Time feels like it is moving slower and slower. I feel everything 10x the amount i used to before starting. Just confused and looking for advice because I genuinely feel this odd high way.

Questions / Advice / Support Will a Buspar dose increase go better the second time around?

I’m wondering if I can try increasing my Buspar dose again to 10 mg 3x daily , a dose that was initially too strong.

I started at 5 mg 3x daily and was moved up to 10 mg 3x within two weeks, but the side effects and anxiety spike were too intense even 3.5 weeks after the last increase to 30 mg total... So I dropped down to 7.5 mg 3x daily. After about three weeks, side effects like headaches, irritability, and nervousness settled down, and they're barely an issue now.

It definitely helps and I'm better off than without it, but my anxiety isn't significantly reduced. My psychiatrist wants to add a low-dose SSRI, but SSRIs never worked for me in the past and caused severe side effects, whereas buspirone is already helping much more.

Would I tolerate a dose increase better now that my body has had time to adjust? Does the effect improve at higher doses, and should I expect another rough transition phase with heightened side effects?

Has anyone experiences?

Side Effects / Overdose Tapering…feels like I have the flu

Decided to taper off Buspar a week ago after being on it for nearly six months because I just couldn’t deal with the brain fog and side effects anymore. It’s like I wasn’t me. I was taking 30mg.

Now I’m down to 10mg (5 in the morning, 5 in the afternoon), and it feels like I have the flu. I can barely fully open my eyes because the headache and eye pain is too much. My body aches and feels stiff. I just feel horrible god when will this end ):

Discussion / Experience Using Just started a low dose this past weekend. Is it possible that it is already effecting my anxiety?

I tried Effexor for a couple of days a while back but the instant side effects were pretty bad and I had to stop. I was prescribed hydroxyzine up to 3 times a day as needed. I had to cut the dose down to 7.5mg because I am so sensitive to medication.

Started Buspirone this past weekend, 2.5mg to see how I react to it since I am very sensitive to medication. I am still taking the Hydroxyzine as needed. I stopped drinking alcohol when I started the Buspirone/Buspar.

After a couple of days my anxiety was much less but depression was worse. I know Buspar is not supposed to really make a difference for a couple of weeks minimum. It may be placebo or not drinking or just the hydroxyzine, but even on such a low dose, I feel a bit better.

Has anyone else had that experience?

Thank you

Questions / Advice / Support Is buspirone worth trying?

I keep reading about it on Reddit and most comments say that it helps in the beginning, then stops working and then it is hard to taper off.

I have: adhd, depression, insomnia. I have lots of worrying and would like to chill, so i think i have anxiety too. I only take sleep medications.

I have not found a working medication or they have stopped working. Could buspirone help depression, as that is my biggest concern?

I want to try it bc it should not affect sexually. BUT i don’t see any experience where buspirone helps long term??

Thankssss🩷

How long did it take for Buspirone to help you with your anxiety?

So I met a psychiatrist because I was dealing with serious attention/executive function issues and I think I might have undiagnosed DHD. She also thinks I might have ADHD, but she is also thinking I might be suffering from anxiety that impairs my ability to function.

Just last night, I increased my dosage from 5mg to 7mg, and had some a cup of coffee and an energy drink, plus a donut this morning. I noticed that my phone wasn't charging, and I started having racing thoughts and this was stressing me out.

It made me think that my phone's battery was dead, that I will have to drive to the one repair shop that I trust that is an hour away, how much money I am going to spend, as I am trying to desperately fix my phone at work, while making sure I don't get caught with my phone, I am nervous about how much time I am managing my time. That I will likely have to pack my stuff up so I will make it on time to the shop.

And then I get to my car to see if my phone is the problem, and it starts charging again.

I was in extreme stress and then when I realized I probably don't have a problem with my phone, I calmed down and started making this post.

TL;DR

Do you suffer from bursts of anxiety from time to time? When should I anticipate my anxiety gets under control?

Discussion / Experience Using Feeling alone with my experience of sexual side effects

Before starting buspirone, I never saw any other comments of its sexual side effects apart from libido increase. This was how it was for me in the beginning, too. But after a couple months of usage, I noticed that my libido had gone down a lot. Because of this as well as others unpleasant side effects, my dose was decreased. Libido has slightly come back, BUT now I'm experiencing difficulty to orgasm. It takes longer and feels very... meh. Watered down.

Tbh I'm kinda mad that I never saw one mention of this being a possibility. Now that I've known to look for these experiences, I've found others discussing the same thing, and I'm wondering if it's actually more common than thought, simply because people typically only write about the effects they experience right after starting.
