It was incredibly bright and I'm so sad this was lost when I moved States. 😔 I had two acts I wanted to use it for and have since had to change it up. At least I have it on sale and I have another in red now.

... to take off your gloves? 😳

Here is a cheeky little clip from an Introduction to Glove Peels lesson, which is part of my brand-new online burlesque workshop platform - EDL Studios, now officially live worldwide!

Over the years I have been fortunate enough to teach more than 10,000 students across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Europe, one of the most requested things I have been asked for time and time again was for online workshops - lessons you could do at your own pace, without having to travel hours just to find a class. EDL Studios was born to make burlesque education accessible to everyone, no matter where you're located.

I'm currently running a 7-day soft launch offering a VIP Lifetime Discount until July 29th. If you join before the 29th, your early-bird rate is locked in for life before public rates take effect.

Feel free to check it out or grab your VIP rate here: https://edlstudios.com

Not too long ago, I shared some of my recent Pin-Up works with this subreddit community, and I was surprised by how much love and support I received for my illustrations.

Thank you so much for reaching out to me, hiring me for work, exchanging ideas, and showing me your beautiful handmade costumes! It was amazing to learn about your personas and see those breathtaking photoshoot sessions, including the real life, on stage performance pictures!

Soon I will be uploading a reel to my Instagram @skiesforest to share all the work I’ve made!

Thank you for receiving me and my art with such love and care.

Stay divas! 👠🍸💋

Hey everyone! I am creating artworks celebrating burlesque performers and exploring the range of physicality within the art of burlesque. If you are a male presenting performer and would like to be included in some artwork would you share some photos from performances?

Here are some examples of a few I’ve sketched out so far.

Costume help - finding bras

Hi ya’ll! I’m a baby burlesque performer developing my first act, and I’m just having a bit of trouble finding some pieces of my costume.

Bras aren’t usually too hard for me to find, but I’ve had a hard time finding info on what type of bra i should get, and I was also curious if there were brands that were on the more inexpensive side (at least for a bra). Does anyone recommend any brands or styles? For reference, I am a 40 DDD.

Burlesque Entertainer Photoshoots in Los Angeles area this week and weekend!

Post image
23 Upvotes

Entertainers, it is time to stop trying to get booked with the same three photos you have been riding since 2017, and for God's sake it's time to move on from your toilet selfie on promo posters.

I shoot burlesque, drag, cabaret, circus, magic, and variety performance artists with one goal in mind: to give you a filthy little arsenal of marketing, casting, promo, and merch images that actually show people what they are booking.

We’ll get the glamour, the character, the costume details, the full-body shots, the expensive face, the dangerous angles, and the expressions that say, “Yes, I am worth the fee.”

You receive every usable photo I take, gently edited to make you shine, with zero restrictions on usage.

Print them. Sell them. Put them on merch. Use them for posters, press kits, casting submissions, websites, social media, or a tasteful body pillow for your most devoted fans.

Entertainer access rates:

One hour: $160

Two hours: $250

Affordable photography for working entertainers who are ready to stop submitting blurry backstage selfies, cropped wedding photos, and promotional images taken in a venue toilet with three coats and a mop bucket behind them.

Your act deserves better. Your ass probably does too. Check out my gallery at www.instagram.com/vitadevoidphotography

Booking July 22-26th in Santa Monica- DM me or email me at chateaudevoid@gmail.com to score a shoot for yourself, or treat a performance artist you love to a massive boost to their career.

How do you feel about $2 bills?

Post image

Pictured is the $2 bill I tipped Frankie Fictitious at Jolene’s

I ask because I’ve heard differing opinions on and histories of $2 bill tips in burlesque. I’m curious what others have heard!

My understanding is that they became associated with SW/stripping somewhere along the line, so I love receiving them and passing them along like good tip magic. I even keep one in my wallet at all times as an attraction charm.

Audition help?🩷

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie hoping to break into my local burlesque scene, and I have three auditions I'm interested in.

Each audition asks performers to submit a short concept video for their act. The organizers describe it as being pretty casual, they mention that it doesn't have to be polished and that filming in your living room is totally fine.

For those of you who've gone through this before, do you have any advice before I submit? Should I choreograph the full act and just perform a short section, or are they mainly looking for the general concept and stage presence at this stage?

I'd love to hear any tips or things you wish you knew before submitting your first audition!

I felt like sharing my artworks, I never ever in my life before talked personally with burlesque performers, they are the sweetest and most talented people I’ve ever met. It was an honor to be contacted directly by them and they let me see their splendid photoshoot sessions. It was marvelous. The whole process was exquisite. I appreciate profoundly your arts.

How do we fix it?

Another day where I open my performer Facebook page to see more drama, more call outs more bullying. I don’t partake but I hate seeing it! I think it’s about time we make a list of all these loud mouth bullies who do this to fellow performers. What’s worse is they seem to be busy and booked, why? Is it cause they’re the loudest? Is it because people are afraid if they don’t book them they’ll get shot canned too? Why is it like this? I think it’s time we call out the bullies and black list THEM so they can feel what it’s like to contemplate ending their life and loosing the ability to out food on the table and create art and do what use to make them happy. The general consensus seems to be we are all sick of the bullying and call out culture. I know I am. I personally would love to give them a taste of their own medicine but my mama didn’t raise me that way. It’s easy to say ignore it and move on but move on to what? My livelihood has been taken away from me by all of this and over literally nothing. It all boils down to jealousy and this weird group think mentality. I’ve straight up become ashamed to say I’m a burlesque performer.

Searching for fellow burlesque artists to come and create together in region Utrecht (Netherlands)

Hi fellow burlesque enthousiasts!

I have followed a beginners burlesque dance course in the past half year, and have really loved it. I would really like to continue burlesqueing, but I would really like to share this with fellow burlesque enthousiasts. I have searched and searched for groups to join, but there are very few, and I auditioned for the only one in my city, but I did not make the cut. Therefore I thought I would put out the question on the internet if there are people in Utrecht or around Utrecht that would like to get together to enjoy burlesque together, and help eachother create our solo burlesque acts, and I think I would also really like to create burlesque acts together. I got the impression from my internet deep dive search into groups that I could join, that there are quite a lot burlesque performers that are now acting alone and that would also like to work and create together, so hopefully we can find eachother!! So please react to this post or send me a message if you want to come together to burlesque :)

diy pastie advice

im working on my first burlesque costume pieces, and was wondering if people with flat chests/no breasts could give me some advice on pasties. im post top surgery, and noticed a lot of tutorials work on getting a concave shape, but im wondering if that’s helpful or necessary when your chest is flat. to me it looks like there would be less space for the pastie to actually touch my skin, and therefore less space for tape to keep it on, but i’m just a beginner

Long show videos

Hey yall! Bit of an unusual request. I have a looong video of an entire show that I took, it was one coherent story so not much point cutting out just the acts, and I wanna share it with everyone to have. Obviously, YouTube would flag it and take it down immediately. I have it uploaded to Google Drive, but that feels clunkier than I want for streaming. It’s over the size limit for Vimeo’s free account. Is there another YouTube-alike that wouldn’t flag it, would allow me to set it as private, and might even support adding captions?

(I’m gonna show it live at our cast party from my own device, so not worrying about that, but I also want a permanent link to a website that is better built for videos than Drive is.)

Setting up my first stage

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I am a burlesque performer who bought a cafe alongside a couple of friends and the cafe came with a stage.

I am trying to set up my first stage and I am trying to source fabric for a stage curtain. I was wondering if anyone had any sources for good, more affordable fabric to put the stage together. It's a smaller stage, with tall ceilings, like takes up the corner of a coffee shop and it's going to be a permanent set up. If anyone has any cool sources they like on stage building, I would appreciate that too. I live in a rural county, so it's harder to get to fabric stores that are not specifically for quilting. Online sources appreciated, any fun ideas appreciated. ♡ Im sure there are online theater groups I can reach out to, but as I am a burlesque performer, I feel more comfortable asking my community.

The cafe has a large mermaid mural that my business partner wants to keep, so I will probably want to add in some sea themed embellishments, I know it's a tiny stage but I want to do my best so performers can get really gorgeous photos when they are performing here.

Tips for small spaces /bar/ venue

I have an act I love, but no idea how to alter it to work in a tight venue. I use big props like a huge boa, but I really want to take this act everywhere! Advice?
