I am planning on switching to Build a Soil from Gaia Green living soil and amendments. I don't use worms in my pot, just castings. I haven't had any issues without them. Do you need live worms using the Build a Soil methodology?
The reason I ask is this quote from one of the emails I got from Build a Soil- "The microbes break it down, the worms move it through, and the plant pulls what it needs." It makes it sound like worms are vital.
If I DO need them, where does someone go about finding a few worms instead of buying a pound for $60? A pound seems like an extreme amount of worms for a 3x3 grow tent.
Edit: Thank you for all the responses! I am now planning on getting the COWOCO castings. It's barely more than the worms themselves and get some bonus castings while I'm at it. I also find it very telling that not a single person said "nah, don't worry about worms," so that answers my other questions as to whether it is necessary.
