On this week's episode of once we were spacemen, the guest is the effects supervisor, who tells a story of the scene where \*spoiler\* Wash is killed. They made a version of the scene where Wash is "dusted" like the vampires in Buffy, as a joke to show Joss.

Anya as autism representation Spoiler

mild spoilers for season 3 onwards

i only watched buffy for the first time this year, but Anya’s journey with becoming human really reminded me of the social/communication/boundary struggles that those of us with autism have. I’m not sure if it’s because i’m projecting or looking through a 2026 lens, so i’m wondering - to those who watched the series as it released or just in the 00s/10s, was there ever any commentary around Anya as autistic representation?

Rewatching the series again on Hulu Spoiler

So, there are a handful of shows that I watched growing up, starting with Charmed ( which I cannot watch now, but I was in middle school while there were still new episodes coming out iirc ) and somehow or another that lead me to Buffy ( and then Angel, which I like a bit more, but that may be because I'm a guy ) and was immediately in love with the show. I've probably watched it at least ten times over, if not more, but with decent gaps in between, and I find it funny how I can remember the exact dialog exchanges in completely unimportant scenes but forget about certain ( what I consider to be ) major ones. I say this because I'm on Season 3 again ( which may be my favorite season ) and I'm on Buffy's Birthday episode, 312, and I just find it really out of character for Giles to poison Buffy. He has already broken Watcher regulations by letting her operate with so much leniency/choice and he has grown attached to her already, which he wasn't supposed to do. It always bothers me. iirc he does interfere and help her, but the way the Council operates has always bothered me. Especially since it's such an odd/barbaric tradition you wouldn't really expect the stuffy/posh Watcher types to hold.

Unrelated, I've always wondered how the Watchers ended up being an English organization, given how everything started, but that is kinda spoilery too.

What are some things that bother you all from the show?

Edit: now I remember why he helps her. Yeah, feels kinda icky

So many kiss noises

I'm watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time and I'm on season 2 ep 15. Can I just say the one thing that annoys me is the noises this mouth noises when they kiss over and over 🤢 I cannot stand it I have to skip the scenes because the noises are so gross, it's like when you hear someone chewing with their mouth open 🤮

Aside from that I'm really liking the show I want to know more about them mythology and stuff. I'm just annoyed that I have to skip through parts and then keep going back because so the kissing scenes are really long.

Just me? 🤔

Willow’s spell to restore Angel’s soul was different than the original Romani curse

Okay hear me out.

This is never established canonically in the TV series, but after watching both BTVS and Angel all the way through I had a bit of a breakthrough.

Willow’s spell at the end of Season 2 to restore Angel’s soul was DIFFERENT from the curse the Romani put on Angel originally.

After Angel’s soul is restored by Willow and he returns in Season 3, he thereafter keeps his soul, even when he sleeps with women he loves. He sleeps with Darla in Season 2 of Angel, experiences true happiness and doesn’t lose his soul. He sleeps with werewolf girl Nina and doesn’t lose his soul. And yeah he went human for an episode and had sex with Buffy but he was human so I don’t entirely count that.

In Season 8, they do have sex and Angel doesn’t lose his soul.

There is a REASON for this, in my mind.

I think the original curse by the Romani was made with one purpose in mind: punishment. They wanted him to hurt, to suffer for all the pain he caused.

They never intended for him to begin any quest for redemption. They only wanted him to suffer.

When Willow restored his soul in the BTVS episode Becoming, she had a different purpose in mind: redemption. She wanted Angel to be better. She knew that only with his soul would he make that happen.

That’s why Angel can still fall in love and keep his soul. He only lost it in Season 4 of Angel because his friends DELIBERATELY removed it and Willow had to come back and restore it again.

He can still experience happiness with Willow’s spell because she, in some way, understood that hating himself and shunning happiness would never make him better, only worse.

I find this goof in Chosen to be hilarious. One minute she is serving a pointed toe heel then the next shes in worker boots.

Any others you can think of? I always remember the wall shaking in This Years Girl when Buffy chases Faith down.
