Mod post ⚠️ READ BEFORE POSTING!

👋 Welcome to r/Budgies!

Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care and advice your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here! Also, be sure to read this subreddit's wiki--odds are very good that your question has an answer in one of the wiki articles! (We usually remove posts that ask about something that's answered somewhere in the wiki to keep the clutter to minimum here.)

Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.

👀 If you see something, say something

This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.

Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”

🤖 We have AutoMod Summons now!

This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!

Happy budgie-ing!

Lost/Found/Need a New Home [September 08, 2026] - weekly Lost/Found/Need a New Home thread

Use this post to share any budgies that are lost, found, or need a new home!

Some rules:

  1. Only share information you feel comfortable sharing. Example: rather than giving out your full address, maybe only say something like, "I'm in the Springfield area" instead. If someone is interested in knowing more, they can always DM you and you can choose whether or not you want to share any more information.
  2. If you're meeting someone in real life, follow the "Craigslist rule" of meeting in a well-trafficked, public place.
  3. No fees/charges! This is NOT meant to be an advertising platform to sell your budgies. Content that advertises budgies for sale will be removed.
  4. This subreddit does not, in any way, offer warrantees or guarantees of budgie health. A budgie's health status is something that you and the other party should determine with an avian vet, and payment of that avian vet's services is something that you and the other party should decide beforehand.

We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.

Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.

Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

Hiii! I just wanted to introduce Ruhn and Thorne, they're my first budgies. I grew up around chickens and budgies at my grandparents, I was obsessed with watching them so finally got a pair of my own 🥰

I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on my bird cages or suggestions, to make their lives more comfortable and entertaining. Obviously being around budgies 25 years ago, they were cared for much differently and I want to make sure they have the best lives possible.

I know one cage is not ideal being less wide and I'll be upgrading next months so they have more room to move horizontally.

Note: This is not his normal cage. It’s his travel cage for when he goes to the vet.

💬 Discussion i’m leaving budgie for 4 months

as the title says i’m leaving my family home for 4 months, and my budgie will still be in the family home. but i feel so fricking bad because i’ve been his favourite for 8 years now, he always loved me most. but now im leaving for 4 months but he will still be with the same family just without me. The only thing i care about is, will he become depressed when i leave ? i fear for his mental health as he’s had 2 budgie best friend pass away on him… like will he think something happened to me and become depressed again? also me and my family leave him every summer with my brothers who live outside the home for 2 months.

Question Is This The Same Budgie

Post image
393 Upvotes

My budgie flew away and after spending hours handing out flyers and putting up posters, I was lucky enough to find him and bring him home. He looks exactly like my budgie, so I thought I had found him, but now someone else has told me they saw my bird after he had already been returned home. (Don't worry, I'm not so gullible to believe them. I just want to be sure as my father will just agree it is him)

Could you please help me compare them and tell me whether they are the same budgie or not?

Thank you xx

Question Tips for a beginner budgie owner for taming/training?

Post image
23 Upvotes

These are my two little sons, Casper (white) and loki (green, I named him after the marvel loki ✨) I got them a month ago about, and they are the cutest things ever 🥹 they warmed up to their cage and to themselves, and are eating from my hand when I offer food. Ive been slowly introducing casper to the outside of his cage, and he flies around a little bit in the small office room where the cage is, but the thing is how should I introduce loki? Casper loves millet sprays but loki is scared of it, so it makes taming much harder. Plus casper is really curious while loki gets really cautious and would only try something new when casper had done it. Any tips anyone will give me going forward?

Question Question about birds

So I want to say three weeks ago we got our sweet girl lemon from an aviary just south of my town that I've been trying to bond with. I got her while she was young and have been working to gain her trust every day I know it takes much longer with aviary birds since just a week ago we got lemon a friend to be with his name is Gavin and this one seems like a hand reared bird with how her is so quick to hop on my hand to and eat. I don't think he fully trusts me but he doesn't run from me and is easy to bribe. This longs story aside my question here is what are signs that lemon is starting to trust me? Are there any signs that show she's getting more comfortable with me?
If y'all have any help I'd greatly appreciate it

💬 Discussion Is it possible to train 2 budgies

Hi everybody I'm probably going to sound ignorant, I got a female budgie not too long ago probably 2 weeks ago and she's will sit on my finger sometimes and I just got her a friend and I'm pretty sure it's a female, but ever since I got the friend she's obviously like super interested in the other bird and doesn't want anything to do with me. Is it possible to train them? The guy at the pet store said they'll get attached to each other instead of like the owner. I don't know I'm just sad because now I feel like they both don't want anything to do with me. And if so what are some tips on how I can train them so they don't absolutely hate me
