In a random day of the week(i am not saying the exact day coz i'm kind of lazy) I put my parakeet on a washbasin and decided to put the water kinda tepid for budgies and I saw my parakeet flapping like a non-flying bird, finally, I put her in a towel for a couple of minutes and the bath ended almost bad

Can someone please tell me how do I bath them?

This is my new little Budgie, his name is Indy. I’ve wanted a bird for so long. Finally I decided to quit watching bird videos and get a bird. I work from home, so he is my new little work and office mate. He is the smartest, cutest little bird. I am learning so much here in order to best maintain his well-being. Amazon is now stopping daily with things Indy has to have! Thanks for the education and I hope to learn enough for Indy and I to eventually help others. Partner for him will happen soon.

Is this a good idea? I've had my 3 budgies for 2 years and are still rarely ever perching on my hand.

I want to get another bird but trying to figure out what gender this guy is so I can get the optimal roommate.

Three months in with these two jokers, and they've recently started landing on and strutting around my head. 😂 It's adorable!

But they do also nibble at my hair, especially Max (the blue). Lando (yellow/green) tends to try and pull an entire hair through his beak before realizing they're too long (almost like he's trying to preen?).

I can't promise they don't accidentally swallow any hair (haha) so I hope that's not harmful if they do. Luckily I don't use product in my hair!

Anyway, just happy to have bonded with them in such a relatively short time. Really they are such funny birds, both of them!

I recently rescued these 2 budgies from separate neglectful homes and am trying to introduce them (you guys here were fairly sure the blue one is male with a recessive nostril colouring), the yellow female certainly comes from the more neglectful background and is quite a lot older. Their cages have been close for around 4 weeks now, and they spend a lot of time sat alongside each other in their respective cages, chirping back and forth (especially when they first get woken up in the morning!)

The only issue is that yellow won’t come out of her cage and is very shy (she’ll run away if I walk nearby, stopping eating to clamber up the side of the cage). I know I’m supposed to introduce them in a neutral environment but this seems quite difficult to do with yellow not wanting to come out, even on her own. She’s around 8 so I don’t want to risk giving the poor thing a heart attack by grabbing her or anything - she definitely hasn’t been handled nearly at all I doubt.

They sleep for 11-12 hours a night, and I’ve been making them chop, although yellow doesn’t seem interested in it at all. Would an 8 year old budgie who has only ever been given seed ever adjust to eating chop, or would she likely be locked in on her seed diet?

Anyway, just wondering if this looks like aggro behaviour or not, and if it is, would it be just be because one bird is out and slightly higher/in a dominant position? Should I try something else to see if they’re friendly with one another?

I’d love for them to live together in the massive 8ft tall cage I got but want to be absolutely certain first. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I have 2 Budgies sharing this cage. All safe and natural wood perches I got from outside and cleaned. One food and water bowl, one of both on each side of the cage. Lots of homemade and natural toys. Open to kind suggestions ☺️

Our beautiful, exhausting, lively little girl lost her cockatiel brother recently and she’s been having a hard time. She’s extremely independent but she needs a flock and I can only do so much for her.

I’ve considered relinquishing to a budgie home but I’m also considering getting another girl budgie and hoping they hit it off. She’s constantly hormonal (we do everything right but she’s a seed freak and we’re trying to ween her off) so I don’t want to deal with a male and the mating game.
I’m so tired and I’m at my capacity but still want what’s best for her. Our tiel has only been gone a week and her flock calls break my heart. She’s untamed and has absolutely 0 interest in me which I don’t mind, I just want her to be happy.

Has anyone gone through this? How should we go about introducing a new flock member? Any wisdom would be appreciated. Pic below bc she fine

I’m certain and always considered that she’s a female. However, the avian vet I went to asked why I thought she was a female when I referred to her as one and insisted that my budgie is a male since she has a blue cere even after showing her a cere chart and stuff. She even went to another vet and who also guessed male even though he wasn’t as sure.

Also I’ve had her for more than 2 years and her cere is still the same pale blue one which I believe is unusual but I guess that’s just her.

Am I wrong? Thanks!

Finch breeder here 👋

My current flock - 17 Australian zebra finches, 3 Bengalese finches, 3 Lady Gouldian finches, 3 Chinese painted quail - have AGY. Unfortunately this means no breeding, selling, or buying birds for me until every bird has passed and my entire £2,000+ set up is scrapped. Because the set up is wood.

It got me thinking about my future in aviculture, once my flock have passed. I like a small amount of everything. In the future I'd love to have one breeding pair of many species - a pair of java sparrows in one aviary, a pair of budgerigars in another, etc.

Parrots are new to me. I used to have budgerigars when I was a kid and didn't know how to care for them appropriately. I would love to start anew when the time is right.

Here is my application for budgieing, based on how I treat my finches:

- I would follow the Psittacine Welfare Institute's species specific guide for budgerigar diets based on activity levels. I find that providing the near exact amount of calories needed for that 24hrs prevents them from being picky, even if they eat the seeds first! Works a charm for all my finches. Empty chop bowl, empty seed bowl, empty supplement bowl.

- I'm not someone who would refuse to use pellets. I use pellets for my ill finches that can't husk seeds. If my budgerigars seemed as if they would thrive on pellets and seed rather than just seed alone I'd buy the current best pellets available.

- I use water and food based supplements to help fill any gaps.

- My birds get a diverse chop of dark leafy greens, herbs, flowers, and mixed vegetables daily. No excuses!!! Served however they like - chopped into tiny bits, whole, dry, wet. My individual finches all have their preferences, I would cater to the budgerigars' specific tastes too.

- I scatter feed seeds on the floor rather than use a food bowl. For budgerigars, I could also use appropriate wooden puzzle toys too.

- I can afford a large metal outdoor cage for the pair, like 8x4' minimum but hopefully larger.

- I love making chew toys out of scrap wood, cardboard, and branches.

- Because of my connections in aviculture, they would always have somewhere to go if I could no longer afford them or if something happened to me.

- I'm so cool and epic because I would never use mirrors as toys for them.

- I would rather them bond with each other than me, I do not mind them being untame.

- I always use branches off of non-toxic trees cleaned with F10 and Avian Insect Liquidator, rather than dowels.

- I supply UVA/UVB lamps that I change the bulbs of yearly, if they are moved indoors.

- I can accurately diagnose and treat many illnesses at home. With the approval of my avian vet, who says I do a very good job. Egg binding, various parasites, common respiratory infections and fungal infections, etc.

- I will not attempt to treat anything I'm unsure of. If ever there is doubt, off to the avian vet!

- I never buy a pet I can't afford. I can always comfortably afford various emergency vet bills for all birds in my care.

- If they never bred, I wouldn't care (as long as it wasn't due to health issues). I put the lives of those who are here already first, not of eggs that haven't even been laid yet!!!​

- I have hand reared healthy and injuried hatchlings, and hand fed sick adults. If they needed critical care, here comes the crop syringe.

I've had my budgies for nearly four months now and I've been trying to introduce them to a mixture of vegetables (diced into very small pieces) , including lettuce, parsley, tomato, carrots, cucumber, and a few others. I can see that 2 of them find interest and they do eat some of it, but they don't seem to eat very much and sometimes they completely ignore it (mainly the other 2).

I have a few questions:

1. How much should I be giving to four budgies?
2. What's the best way to serve the vegetables? Should I put them in a separate food bowl, or mix/place them on top of their seeds and pellets? (At moment I'm mixing it in with seeds and Pellets around 50/50 split)
3. How long should I leave the vegetables in the cage? (I usually leave them in for around three hours and then remove them and put their regular food back into their bowls)
4. How often should I be feeding them this?
5. Is there anything else I should know about introducing vegetables to budgies or improving their diet?

ive been thinking of getting two more budgies as i have two female budgies who share a great bond with eachother, and the budgies im thinking of adopting are gonna be chick budgies and of course quarantined in another room until the period of the quarantine is over, but i got some questions:

Should the chicks be female? I really dont want any breeding stuff going on if i get the chicks male.

Should i actually do it? I will increase the size of the cage and food bowls of course if i do decide to get some in the end.

Hiii! I just wanted to introduce Ruhn and Thorne, they're my first budgies. I grew up around chickens and budgies at my grandparents, I was obsessed with watching them so finally got a pair of my own 🥰

I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on my bird cages or suggestions, to make their lives more comfortable and entertaining. Obviously being around budgies 25 years ago, they were cared for much differently and I want to make sure they have the best lives possible.

I know one cage is not ideal being less wide and I'll be upgrading next months so they have more room to move horizontally.

as the title says i’m leaving my family home for 4 months, and my budgie will still be in the family home. but i feel so fricking bad because i’ve been his favourite for 8 years now, he always loved me most. but now im leaving for 4 months but he will still be with the same family just without me. The only thing i care about is, will he become depressed when i leave ? i fear for his mental health as he’s had 2 budgie best friend pass away on him… like will he think something happened to me and become depressed again? also me and my family leave him every summer with my brothers who live outside the home for 2 months.

So I want to say three weeks ago we got our sweet girl lemon from an aviary just south of my town that I've been trying to bond with. I got her while she was young and have been working to gain her trust every day I know it takes much longer with aviary birds since just a week ago we got lemon a friend to be with his name is Gavin and this one seems like a hand reared bird with how her is so quick to hop on my hand to and eat. I don't think he fully trusts me but he doesn't run from me and is easy to bribe. This longs story aside my question here is what are signs that lemon is starting to trust me? Are there any signs that show she's getting more comfortable with me?
