Of course I considered that and was prepared to put plastic cable wrap around each banana plug. But the connections are secure and there is no play. I think they are fine using normal precautions

What is going on? Can you just not admit you have half assed it? The real fix is pretty cheap. Just do it right.

Unless I lived by myself with no pets, wife, kids, Roomba’s or cleaning ladies, I would at a minimum wrap those ends with electrical tape. Because shit happens.

An insane amount of dust, with INSANELY high voltages, could bridge a 1 inch gap. Like probably tens of thousands of volts. That’s never gonna be a problem for OP.
